This man never ceases to amaze me......

Not in a good way

Elegran Sun 23-Jul-17 09:46:18

I thought a pardon was for someone who had been convicted of a crime? Surely pardoning them without a trial is admitting that they WOULD be found guilty of doing it but that you don't mind?

And pardoning himself is just ridiculous - that is claiming that he is above all other jurisdiction, so he can commit any crime he likes without retribution. I wonder what future crime he is contemplating and laying down a precedent for?

vampirequeen Sun 23-Jul-17 09:47:23

Surely there is some block set in American law. Otherwise he and his family/lackies can commit any crime without fear of retribution.

Anniebach Sun 23-Jul-17 10:17:13

Good grief, the man needs to be certified insane

Elegran Sun 23-Jul-17 10:30:32

He does seem have a very weird idea of what being President is about.

Christinefrance Sun 23-Jul-17 10:31:52

Megalomaniac ?

annodomini Sun 23-Jul-17 11:27:42

The next step is deification.

Elegran Sun 23-Jul-17 11:42:10

He will be having the White House totally gilded and giving his horse a seat in the Senate next month.

US Law:
"General pardon is usually recognized for political offenses. It is the sovereign right of a government forgiving certain classes of persons who are subject to trial. The government officially grants general pardon and exempts political offenders from conviction."

Primrose65 Sun 23-Jul-17 12:21:37

Berlusconi was constantly changing laws in Italy to try and keep himself out of prison too.

AlieOxon Sun 23-Jul-17 12:57:03

Scaramucci, Scaramucci, can you do the fandango?

They all need to dance around trump, don't they?

AlieOxon Sun 23-Jul-17 13:21:24

However:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-40696682 .....

"Leaders of both parties in the US Congress have agreed on legislation that allows fresh sanctions to punish Russia for alleged election meddling.

The new legislation would also sharply limit President Donald Trump's ability to lift any sanctions against Russia."

M0nica Sun 23-Jul-17 17:20:12

It is the sovereign right of a government to forgive..., not a President

BlueBelle Sun 23-Jul-17 17:38:24

If someone pardons themselves doesn't that rather admit to having done something wrong

Ana Sun 23-Jul-17 17:40:38

Wel, you coud phrase it something like 'I pardon myself for any perceived wrongdoing...'

rosesarered Sun 23-Jul-17 17:40:54

Pardon me? grin

AlieOxon Sun 23-Jul-17 18:42:32

Isn't that asking someone else to pardon you?

Juggernaut Sun 23-Jul-17 18:50:11

I know just what I'd like Trump to do to himself, and it isn't a pardon?

whitewave Sun 23-Jul-17 18:52:41

I haven't really looked st this but apparently he can pardon anyone. So that's his family off the hook. But I can't really believe that if they are guilty of a criminal act they will not be punished in some way. It is all bizarre.

grannyqueenie Sun 23-Jul-17 19:35:30

Annodomini I initially misread your "deification" for "defaecation" shock and thought you were being a bit harsh but on the other hand...... grin

Iam64 Sun 23-Jul-17 20:06:20

I'm still in the stunned and astounded group on the Trump front. When I heard this latest bit of skullduggery, I was back in the "I'm living in a Batman movie". I realise I can't be because the Caped Crusader would have engineered the downfall of this arch villain before now.

Chewbacca Sun 23-Jul-17 20:43:21

How much longer can he continue? He's had more staff sacked/replaced/resigned than any other POTUS. And in such a short space of time too. Surely he can't go on much longer without him being impeached? And why does he always wear that peculiar "hard stare" facial expression when he meets anyone. Does he think it gives him gravitas? What a fool.

TriciaF Sun 23-Jul-17 20:43:30

If the man had just a smidgeon of a sense of humour I could pardon a lot of his madness.
But he's so smug serious self-satisfied.

M0nica Sun 23-Jul-17 21:42:30

I think it is the Botox. He can't move any facial muscles.
