Very much needed.

First happy thing to report.

Unison have won their case making it illegal to charge employees for employment litigation. Introduced by the Tories in 2013.

The judges quite rightly said it was wrong to make it difficult/impossible for anyone to resort to law.

Those who paid will be reimbursed.

www.nursingtimes.net/news/workforce/changes-in-nurse-numbers-may-be-key-to-120000-excess-deaths/7022104.article

I've just read about half a dozen emails telling me about this number.
This government is to blame for 120,000 excess deaths because of austerity, and what it encompasses.
Makes me feel in despair.

Article seems to have disappeared.
It's in the BMJ, the Nursing Times, Hospital Doctor.

People's assembly has caught up on it.

I read yesterday, and today it was on the politics Show that Gove was showing off using long words and phrases used by economists. He fancies the chancellors job.

We really are being governed by pigmies.

whitewave Thu 16-Nov-17 16:21:36

What’s happened to the Damien Green case?

durhamjen Thu 16-Nov-17 16:26:10

Our Laura was asking just that yesterday.

Gove has had every other job so far, and not liked any of them.
He wants out of environment because his MPs voted down the fact that animals should be seen as sentient beings and would have no special clause in Brexit.
Sorry about that dog lovers.

And the minister that told a female member of staff to go an buy a vibrator for him?

durhamjen Thu 16-Nov-17 20:19:47

Give us a clue, Jess. Can't remember his name.

durhamjen Thu 16-Nov-17 21:18:03

Found it; Mark Garnier. Unfortunately no news about his case, except it has been reported today in an Australian newspaper.

Landmark study links Tory austerity to 120,000 deaths

The Conservatives have been accused of “economic murder” for austerity policies which a new study suggests have caused 120,000 deaths.

Sorry if this is a repeat. I haven't really caught up with today's posts.

durhamjen Thu 16-Nov-17 22:51:03

I put it on another thread or two, GracesGran.
Perhaps somebody will read it now.

This is another headache for May.

Mmm. I notice my moment of sympathy for her has passed.

"Retirement solutions" is a euphemism, in Jen's link, for advising millionaires about the best place to stash their retirement fund, how to minimise inheritance tax etc. Difficult to do such a job and keep your hands clean.

It's like the other euphemism that has been around for a while "wealth management consultancy"

What I find very puzzling is that the Tory party, which like labour is a broad church, and whose extreme right wing is a tiny minority, has spent years and years trying to appease them. We ended up with this chaos that is Brexit, which if parliament behaved properly would work together to face what is a monumental task. Yet still Maybot tries to appease this little runt - getting herself and the U.K. into all sorts of difficulties. The latest being the shooting herself in the foot of declaring a date and time for leaving.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 17-Nov-17 11:05:41

I have thought the same whitewave. What is it that gives so few people so much power. (Not sure we should call the Brexit Bulldog a little runt thoughgrin)

durhamjen Fri 17-Nov-17 11:05:46

Yes, Jess, I found that a bit odd. There are some very rich pensioners, made that way through tax dodging, so I don't see why pensions are exempt from tax dodging. In fact, I am certain they are not.

yggdrasil Fri 17-Nov-17 11:09:24

whitewave, that tiny minority are the ones who finance the Tories with millions. There are supposed to be rules about how much any one person (or a company) can pay to a political party, but they don't seem to be enforced at all.

Welshwife Fri 17-Nov-17 11:33:46

Same with the referendum - all sorts of funny funding going on and although exposed nothing much seems to have been done about it.

durhamjen Fri 17-Nov-17 11:57:17

I wonder if Aarron Banks will get his money back if he is made bankrupt. Apparently he doesn't have nearly enough money as he claims he has.
Same with trump, so I read yesreday.

Welshwife Fri 17-Nov-17 12:11:44

Interesting Jen.

Dwarfs the money collected by Children in Need, doesn't it?
And they've known about it for over a year and not said anything until now.
Gawke needs sacking.

They've made mistakes in 75,000 claims and up to now 1,000 affected have been contacted. Only another 65 years to sort out the problem at that rate.
