Very much needed.

First happy thing to report.

Unison have won their case making it illegal to charge employees for employment litigation. Introduced by the Tories in 2013.

The judges quite rightly said it was wrong to make it difficult/impossible for anyone to resort to law.

Those who paid will be reimbursed.

Depressingly, we have the budget tomorrow.

durhamjen Tue 21-Nov-17 23:02:46

I was just reading somewhere that Hammond is likely to reduce the VAT threshold to £20,000.
I find that hard to believe. It was £15,000 in 1990.

Isn't a 'Conservative Industrial Strategy' a bit of an oxymoron? Had the LP been bandying the words 'Industrial Strategy' around I have a feeling the word 'communist' would have been thrown in their direction. Mind you, after the UC and the apprenticeship debacle I doubt this will actually do what it is intended to do.

They are trying hard, GracesGran.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 27-Nov-17 17:10:53

What this country needs is not so much an industrial strategy as a coping one

Oh, how true.

Just seen Kevin Hollinrake on the local news, clutching a copy of the report.
He's an estate agent and owns lots of properties to rent out.
He's voted to reduce corporation tax, against measures to reduce tax avoidance (I wonder how much of his fortune is in tax havens) and voted against secure tenancies.
That's a self-serving strategy.

Obviously the myth, continued by the mega-rich owners of some papers who are only thinking of their own financial situation, that the Tories are competent when it comes to the economy is surely beginning to seems full of holes even to the most ostrich-like of Conservative supporters. This is from Richard Murphy's blog today. Even if you suspect he is biased, for heavens sake read it and don't remain as ignorant as our gutter press would like to keep yo.

Labour not only repaid more often, it turns out it also repaid much more in total and on average during each year when repayment was made.

So what do we learn? Two essential things, I suggest.

First, Labour invariably, in real terms, borrows less than the Conservatives. The data shows that.

And second, Labour has always repaid debt more often than the Conservatives, and has always repaid more debt, on average.

Or, to put it another way, the Conservatives are the party of high UK borrowing and low debt repayment contrary to all popular belief.

The Tories created two thirds of the UK’s national debt

yo you

durhamjen Tue 28-Nov-17 23:07:26

Yes, I saw that, GracesGran.
Not only can the Tories not sort out thecountry's finances, they take bungs from rich Russians - as if they need to.

Gets worse as time goes on.

Never mind; economists know the truth.

durhamjen Tue 28-Nov-17 23:15:45

Did you see Dennis Skinner yesterday telling Greg Clark what he thinks of a Tory industrial strategy?

Video on here.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 28-Nov-17 23:34:41

Well done Dennis.

durhamjen Wed 29-Nov-17 00:23:21

And look at this. Some Tories create more money for themselves than others.

I can't work out which of today's stories is the most damaging to the government.
I don't care, either. Take them all together, and there really should be some resignations, if not another general election.

Legatum - a free market think tank - which has close ties to Brexit ministers, is under investigation for compliance.

2 for 1 offer!!

Davis will quit if the allegedly porn watching, woman grouper -Green is sacked.

We can but hope.

durhamjen Fri 01-Dec-17 16:21:06

I think Davis knows more about it than he's saying. He was working in Green's office when it was raided, I think I read.

whitewave Fri 01-Dec-17 16:27:37

Covering his back?

durhamjen Fri 01-Dec-17 16:28:53

Culd be. I'm not quite sure that having Andrew Mitchell support you when you say you are not lying is a good thing, either.

whitewave Fri 01-Dec-17 16:31:15

Yes heard him this morning and thought the same.

durhamjen Fri 01-Dec-17 17:30:52

These Tory MPs have no shame, do they?
Look where Liam Fox is now.

varian Fri 01-Dec-17 17:41:55

Theresa May seems to be following the example of Margaret Thatcher who was surprisingly tolerant of wayward Tory ministers. Boys will be boys, after all. It doesn't quite fit with the sanctimonious "family values" preaching, does it?

whitewave Fri 01-Dec-17 17:45:01

Hypocracy is a concept never recognised by the Tories.

whitewave Fri 01-Dec-17 21:15:32

Guardian reporting that Mogg had a cosy meeting with the white supremacist, Nazi sympathiser Steve Bannon in London.

Anyone in any doubt about which way Mogg politics would go given the opportunity?

Is this a record, someone threatened with deportation after being here for 52 years?

Electoral fraud investigations still going on.
Not the important ones yet, but it's a start.
