In today's Times, James Kirkup argues from what I understood to be the socialist principle of "from each according to his ability; to each according to his need" that some form of Theresa May's so-called 'dementia tax' should be revived and pursued.

I don't think the current council tax system is fair at all . Why should someone living in a flat worth less than £40,000 ( actual worth today) pay more council tax than someone living an a house worth £500,000 ( actual) ? I don't see any fairness in that whatsoever . Just because they are a rich council and we are a poor one ?

gilly as I said above. It was brought in without much consideration given to fairness affectiveness etc by the Thatcher government after the poll tax debacle.
