I thought I would start this thread to enable those who are enthusiastic Brexiters, to educate us Europhiles and show that our worries are silly and uniformed.
We hear so little from you, except to criticise our worries.
We have so many threads about the negative effects why not have one which shows the positive effects that leaving the EU will come about?
Mayhem always thinks that if she says something often enough it will come true, just like at the election, strong and stable.
Britains leading professors at law are telling May that what she is suggesting i.e. a frictionless border, same as single market and leave the ECJ simply isn't possible.
I believe we were discussing just that back in the autumn!?
Just how dim is this government?
I've only been shopping and having a cuppa with a friend and look at all the news posted here!!!! Will need to read it all again. Thank you ladies for the info.
According to May, we are going to have a deep and special relationship with the EU.
I am sure I've heard that phrase before, but it wasn't the EU.
I wonder what trump will think of that!
I reckon the politician who stands up and tells the public exactly like it is ought to be the next PM as she/he will be the only one with spine enough to do the job.
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain and the European Union may have to delay talks on their post-Brexit relationship until December as sufficient progress may not be made on the first stage of talks, Sky News cited unidentified British sources as saying.
The EU had hoped to make sufficient progress on the first phase of Brexit negotiations - on the bill Britain should pay on exit, expatriate rights and Northern Ireland - by October.
Spokeswomen for Britain's Brexit ministry did not answer repeated telephone calls seeking comment on the report.
That's the trade negotiations because we can't get our act together over the divorce bill etc. We simply don't k ow what we want and cabinet is sooooo divided there is no agreement about anything at all.
What a mess
Why is it that all Brexit news seems to be told to us by Sky?
Haven't talks been put off again until December?
Apparently the Commonwealth countries, as well as trade theybare interested in free movement of their population.
Well good luck with that
We start talks again at the end if the month.
Adam Raphael has been commenting on "dateline" saying that David Davis was being untruthful when he said that the talks were going very well. Raphael said they are not in fact they are going incredibly badly. There is fundamental dishonesty amongst the politicians. The cabinet is split three ways. We are in a very very bad hole, and it is only going to be a matter of time until the British public realise that they have been sold a total pup.
We are moving excruciatingly slowly towards reality, but the Europeans are right when they say we are in never never land.
The papers fail to talk about what will happen to the customs union. The British cannot have their cake and eat it, the government is in a weak position because of its election result and it is totally divided.
Britains position sounds fine but there is no reason for the EU would agree. Britain is being unrealistic.
Davis idea that ambiguity is good that lack of clarity is necessary, but this is simply leading to chaos, and polarisation.
3/4 of voters say that Britain is on the wrong track.
Politicians are too frightened to speak honestly, so we are left with the three Brexiters, whom no one has any confidence in their competence.
Position paper relating to NI
The border will be completely porous if the British governments suggestion goes ahead but it is unlikely that the EU will agree.
James Chapman also said:
"I did my best to make Brexit work for a year – and it won’t. There is no upside and it is clear that every sector of our economy will suffer for decades to come. Project Fear is Project Fact.”
Former chief of staff at Brexit department to launch anti-Brexitparty
"James Chapman, who is also former political editor at the Daily Mail and worked for George Osborne, said he had done his best to make the exit plan work but ‘it won’t’."
Did anyone hear on Radio 4 or BBC World last night the man from Australia speaking - he asked what did Britain think it was producing that Australia wanted/needed? He said they imported already things they did want and they would not go into deep discussions till after Brexit
He also spoke about Australia developing cars which I think ran on hydrogen - he was I decided probably talking about developing the engine to go into Honda and Nissan cars as he mentioned those.
I find it remarkable that so many appear to have lost their personal integrity and just follow the party line. I think that this Brexit should be a free vote with everyone voting how they feel - UK has had that form of democracy for laws such as hanging, abortion etc and Brexit was not really party policy when it all kicked off.
What is the point of voting for a person who will just follow party lines and not go with what they really believe is best for their constituents and the country - all we need for that is a voting paper which lists the name of the parties.
Lady Altmann is reported in the Telegraph as saying that Ministers find it too frightening to admit that Brexit is going to be a disaster. Asked why that is the case she said that if they stand up then vitriol of the worse kind is poured down in their heads.
Spineless the lot of them
It seems to me that party matters above country almost always.
Oh! to return to decency and integrity .
What I would just like to say with regard Gerald Lyons.
He has issued a paper that indicates that the UK will be OK whether we stat in or out.
Of course I do think this idea of win/win is incorrect.
I do admire the Brexiteers for their continued support for the cause but cannot understand why they still fail to see how many jobs are going and how much expertise we are losing.
When the UK young, who are at the moment in some form of education - whether school, University or post grad, complete their studies they will be hoping to obtain gainful interesting employment - they should not have a life of just being some sort of fodder to look forward to or have the only other option of moving abroad . That's is what I worry about. Most of the jobs available are not really skilled ones or have the opportunity to be trained in a skill which will serve them well.
The employment figures may look good but how many of those jobs are zero hours or part time? They unbalance the figures.
I really don't think I can take you seriously any more Primrose.
The prestigious European Medicines Agency and the EU Banking Agency, both currently based in the UK are moving to the EU along with several 100s of jobs. The UK is having to foot the bill for winding them up and presumably setting up an equivalent. marvellous.
Euro is not doing at all badly - it is now worth 91p against sterling - £1 =€1.09
Sterling /dollar rate - £1= $1.28 or dollar costs 77p.
These are the current mid rates.
it was just a prejudice (opinion not based on fact) as you have agree the future is unknown after leaving
The future is unknown whether we left or stayed. Everyone voted with 'just a prejudice' by your definition as no one has 'facts' about the future. What an illogical argument.
