As Newcastle gets £500000 ot fight right wing extremism
www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/right-wing-edl-newcastle-racism-13402419
there is also news that the cities 2 universities are still attracting EU students and there are increasing numbers of students from the Middle and Far East coming here. Will the money really help? And what can be done to mend a fractured society? When I see the EDL demonstrating and yelling in a city centre crowded with all nationalities I can only see more trouble ahead. Can you educate people to understand the benefits these students bring?

My post about my granddaughter wasn't directed at you, Chewbacca. What was there in that post that made you think it was?

Primrose65 Sun 06-Aug-17 22:16:43

Nope dj Abi Wilkinson is a sensationalist, I stopped reading anything she writes after her 100% inheritance tax fiasco piece.

You might not think it's fair but that's life. People are going through a lot worse, like the home less

durhamjen Sun 06-Aug-17 22:31:28

Pathetic, petra.
The whole thread is about the homeless in a divided society.
You criticised when I said that 150 families are being made homeless every day.

Jalima1108 Mon 07-Aug-17 10:29:50

The whole thread is about the homeless in a divided society.

Is it?

Actually, having re-read the OP before I read some of the latest posts I realised that I didn't quite understand the OP.

What are the divisions it is referring to - those of nationality, creed, rich students bringing money into the country -v- those home-grown students who will be saddles with debt, homeless/landlords/owners of empty houses or what?

The OP is asking if people can be educated to realise that rich overseas students bring benefits to the country. Will some of the benefits mean that their rich parents will be buying up property for them to live in then leaving it empty after their student children leave?

I am rather confused

Have you noticed they are the ones who do not want the NHS to be sold off, or US chickens and GM foods to be imported, Jalima?

No because many posters who may agree with one point or another such as not wanting American chickens to be imported/GM foods may disagree on another point.

Life would be much more simple if one could follow a particular party line on everything but many people can't.

It must be very disheartening for younger people to be unable to rent because of their age. Unfortunately some landlords take that decision because of problems they've had with younger tenants in the past, believing that older renters will respect and care for their property.

Having had the unfortunate experience of seeing a well presented property miss used on more than one occasion by younger tenants, we now go for a more mature tenant.

durhamjen Mon 07-Aug-17 11:50:29

Oh, so you're a landlord, Smileless.
Have you told us this before?

Smileless2012 Mon 07-Aug-17 12:23:02

Yes, not on this thread dj but the subject did come up on another but I don't remember which.

petra Mon 07-Aug-17 13:24:58

Have you told us this before
Am I the only one thinking "ve haf vays of making you talk"
I couldn't help it grin

Smileless2012 Mon 07-Aug-17 13:35:45

petragrin. Perhaps dj thinks it's something I should have declared, along with all the other aspects of my personal life but I'm really not that interesting so don't wish to bore any of you.

devongirl Mon 07-Aug-17 13:40:39

I think dj only meant this as an indicator that you are coming from this from an investor's perspective.

petra Mon 07-Aug-17 13:42:12

Smileless
It will certainly put other landlords ( dirty word grin off from admitting they are filthy rich capitalists.

Primrose65 Mon 07-Aug-17 13:49:25

Well, if we can only post from our own situational perspective, I think that's killed the homelessness chat.

Anniebach Mon 07-Aug-17 13:54:50

I had better confess , I arrange all the renting out of ten properties in Cardiff. Forgive me please grin

gillybob Mon 07-Aug-17 14:01:28

Anniebach why did you not declare this ages ago?

Have you no shame woman?

gillybob Mon 07-Aug-17 14:05:48

Remember .......You do not have to say anything. But, it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in (this kangaroo ) court.

devongirl Mon 07-Aug-17 14:18:36

Very funny. It is simply helpful to know if the poster has some personal involvement in the issue being discussed.

petra Mon 07-Aug-17 14:19:52

annie
I'm afraid this heinous crime will have to go before the jury at the kangaroo court sad
But to be fair, I think you should be warned that it will have something to do with Jeramy Corbyn. Brace yourself shock

durhamjen Mon 07-Aug-17 14:20:06

Exactly, devongirl, thanks for understanding.

They can't help being so childish. It is, after all, the silly season for news.

gillybob Mon 07-Aug-17 14:21:07

So we all need to make a declaration of interest at the start of every thread then? Just incase? hmm

trisher Mon 07-Aug-17 14:27:06

No but it might be appropriate to explain why you have certain views on a subject if there is something relevant. Why wouldn't you? Couldn't be anything to do with feeling a bit guilty about it could it? Or of wanting people to think you are posting from a neutral position. Bit like turning out for a football team wearing the team strip under another plain one. No one knows who you're playing for.

Primrose65 Mon 07-Aug-17 14:28:00

Or written up on your profile, so you can be judged even if you chose not to join a thread grin

petra Mon 07-Aug-17 14:28:50

There's a lot of news around, but sometimes it's just fun to see the the funny side of life, or should I say some posts.

gillybob Mon 07-Aug-17 14:32:43

Well at least I'm blued. Which is more than I can say for some others, not mentioning any names.....wink

Jalima1108 Mon 07-Aug-17 14:42:14

Shouldn't the term be landperson as we don't know if Smileless is male or female (although I think I know) and 'landlord' is a term which assumes everyone who owns property other than their own home is male?
Landlady? - brings back memories of 1940ps/50s holidays in Blackpool where the landlady made you go out for the day after breakfast even if it was pouring with rain.

trisher are we on the right track with your thread or has it wandered (as threads tend to do) away from what you intended to be discussed?
