By papers, I mean manifesto papers, not newspapers.
When a political leader lies on their CV - can you trust them?
Good Morning Monday 11th May 2026
Walk away very quickly Theresa May. This is NOT ON. Blackmail or what?
How many of us knew that was the figure the EU demanded? Spite and greed...
From the Guardian. On Thursday morning, political allies of the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, confirmed that the EU wants the UK to agree to pay up to €100bn (£89.4bn) to settle the Brexit divorce bill.
89 BILLION........89 BILLION!!! Before Brussels will even consider a trade deal.
I see the Leaving the EU thread has been pulled because of personal insults.
We have to pull the plug on the EU because this is a divorce lawyers equivalent of pure spite and greed.
We will walk away with no deal and rightly so. Being held over a barrel by EU politicians is not on. We have made an a reasonable offer ...in billions, (£17b billion I believe) just to break away, before any trade deal is discussed. This is not acceptable to the greedy Brussels gravy train.
Now we are being held to ransom by Brussels,
No business man EVER would settle for a bad deal. No wonder talks have stalled.
Walk away very quickly Theresa May. This is blackmail.
WTO talks should begin asap. We will trade with the rest of the world. The EU is cutting off it's nose to spite it's face. Let it do so.
89 BILLION. It is beyond belief...That's what the EU wants just to settle the divorce bill before any trading agreement is reached. I would not want to do business with that firm of shysters.
No deal it is and rightly so. That is all we can consider in the face of EU spite and greed. Let's start afresh.
By papers, I mean manifesto papers, not newspapers.
If you think that this government is not spending our money ‘wisely’ ( but somehow the EU is) then wait for the next GE when they may be replaced.Because that’s the great thing about leaving the EU ( well, one of many ?) governments can be replaced, they are our elected politicians, unlike the top brass of the EU, who we can’t replace, and don’t trust.
Do you not vote for your MEPs, then, lemon? I do. I vote for three of them.
1% of UK GDP the EU has to play with - how much does the UK Govt have?
The rest of it, and play with it they do.
This is why May should put her cards on the table as far as the EU is concerned, if she wants to leave with a deal.
infacts.org/may-ignore-tory-no-deal-brigade/
She should ignore the Redwoods and the Johnsons, etc.
It looks like over 40% they have had to spend in the last few years!
You didn't really answer my questions, CJ which were:
What do you think they used 'our money' for, CardiffJaguar?
What would you have wanted them to use 'our money for'?
I'll add another one. What do you think we paid a membership fee for?
(I do actually know what the money was spent on; you only have to google it)
Yes we can vote for our MEPs but not for the other 27 countries MEPs.
Like you can vote for your constituency MP but not the other 600+ MPs - is that a problem?
So you wouldn't mind being a member of the EU provided you have complete control over it, Firecracker?
Sounds like you want the British Empire back again.
No problem at all with the voting system in Britain and when the new constituency boundaries come in it will be even better. I can vote for my local candidate but if he doesn't get elected I would be upset but would respect the wishes of my fellow Brits.
No durhamjen I don't want to be in the EU full stop, but yes I would like my country back.
You didn't answer the question - why do you want to vote for all the MEPs when you can't vote for all MPs?
Presumably if your favoured candidate doesn't get elected - you can still criticise /comment on the other party's policies and campaign against them? And vote again in 5 years time.
I dont understand it,"Iwould like my country back" can you explain why you think its not in your control...FACTS please not the nonsense we gor at the referendum.Britain has ALWAYS had control of its borders, the free movement has been great for Brits living abroad as well as us with a workforce we wouldn't have had and desperately need .The EU ISN'T in control of laws thats WESTMINSTER ,the EU has only control over a very small % ...and usually things that do more good than harm.Like employment laws and Human rights .God help us all when Westminster has no curbs on what it does The Empire is goneFirecracker and it wont be returned in a parcel when Brexit happens.
I don't want to vote for the other countries MEPs I don't want to be ruled by Brussels that's why I voted leave. I want British people in the UK to vote for a British government and who ever gets elected I will respect the democratic vote because it will British people deciding who they want to govern them unlike some who will not accept the referendum vote.
Well I never the Empire has gone. Who knew
.
I've just renewed my EHIC card. The new one expires in 2022, do they know something we don't? or is it just wishful thinking?
But you complained earlier you couldn’t vote for the 27 other countries MEPs ? We aren’t ruled by Brussels btw. Less than 4% legislation is from EU. Terrible things like clean beaches, electrical safety, gender equality etc. We have plenty of our own laws like the bedroom tax, universal credit etc that are all homegrown. British People have been voting for British governments the whole time we’ve been in the EU quelle surprise.
The Brexiters simply don’t get it do they?
The EU is nothing more than big market that makes life simple and fair for our businesses to thrive.
In order to do so there are rules drawn up. The U.K. has largely been in agreement with these rules as they have progressed along the years.
Where the U.K. hasn’t agreed we have opted out . The EU has nothing to do with our domestic law nor is there ever any intention to do so. Greater integration may indeed be on the future table, but once again members will have the opportunity to opt out, if they so wish. My bet is that the U.K. and Denmark would be two of the countries to do so.
Some Brexiters seem excercised by what they see as the potential European Army. Once again believing hyperbole as opposed to facts. Europe has always cooperated with regard to defence, why not? But an army is not being proposed, but even if it was presumably the U.K. could opt out if it wished. Keeping the member countries secure to continue trading is what it is all about. Nothing more.
Simples isn’t it?
Everything else is rubbish which the Brexiters seem to believe regardless of facts. It is absolutely bizarre.
Brexiteers have made sure we have opted out bigtime now, from free movement of goods, people, services and finance.
I hope they understand that when they go abroad for their holidays, and supermarket shelves have big gaps on them.
No I think remainers don't get it we voted leave and that's what we are going to do Leave. All this talk of empty shelves just project fear again, utter rubbish.
Oh I get that Brexiters voted leave, that’s why we are such a mess and getting messier.
Believing in project fear is blind faith.

How much British food stuffs do you think is sold in European supermarkets? You really should travel more.
We import 27% (£39.3bn) and export 14% (£19bn)
Last year's research on UK/EU food trade.
You really should read more.
If the large supermarket in Limoges is anything to go by very little. Admittedly we haven't been there since last October, but SIL, who spends six months of the year there assures me that nothing has changed. You can/could get Bovril though - an obvious must!
