This as the Labour Party conference , a momentum fringe meeting.

Corbyn attended Momentum fringe invites but turned down Friends of Israel invite.

Very Donald Trump isn't it?

trisher Sat 28-Oct-17 18:23:49

There aren't waitresses any more. It's the same as actors the term is considered unacceptable. Male or female they are called actors. Male or female they are called waiters

Anniebach Sat 28-Oct-17 18:39:29

And that is hypocrisy?

Primrose65 Sat 28-Oct-17 19:00:01

An interesting quote from Armando Iannucci on C4 news recently talking about his new film, Stalin.
He says "When you do a joke on Twitter about Jeremy Corbyn or John McDonnell, that's when you get abuse. And that's interesting. I'm not saying that everyone who supports Corbyn or the Labour Party is of that mindset, but I think there is a problem now"
I absolutely agree that when a long-standing political satirist cannot make jokes about certain politicians, there is a problem.

Anniebach Sat 28-Oct-17 19:04:17

For me Momentum has dragged the once proud Labour Party into the mud , so much abuse and bullying

Primrose65 Sat 28-Oct-17 19:24:31

I agree Annie.
We've enjoyed political satire since ...well, definitely the 1960's.
Seems that avenue of pleasure is closed to us now.
There's nothing funny about the fight against outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. So no laughing for you!

Anniebach Sat 28-Oct-17 19:56:34

Just one thing I find upsetting, among many, the party conference . Have been to so many over the years , the friendliness , yes there were disagreements on policies but none of the separation of groups there have now, everything controlled and no freedom of speech now, the MP's stayed for the whole conference, now many didn't bother to turn up. The leaders speech and the hall was filled with MP's, Party members, even ex leaders, all had something to offer. Now it's a few days of Corbyn worship. Yes the young are gathering, but they did for Clegg until they felt let down, they moved on and the lib Party left in bits. Corbyn has to promise the young what ever they want to get their votes because if it was left to the ordinary voter country wide we would be back in the wilderness years .

Day6 Sat 28-Oct-17 20:05:50

Trisher The young probably think what a boring bunch of old farts being offended by a word.

Oh nice. Another who likes division.

Let's not offend the young. hmm

Looking at that clip, all those Momentum supporters look SO young. The event was like a badly run student social and Lewis was obviously trying to 'get down with the kids'. Stupid, misogynistic remark.

Did you hear the girl compere say "Oh the Daily Mail will love that!" or words to that effect? I had to laugh. Anyone who doesn't think like them automatically reads the DM. Mentioned earlier. Even the left wing 'boring bunch of old farts' writing on GN use that slur. It's so sad. Come up with something original.

They've all been brainwashed into thinking they are part of some glorious revolution. The Labour party Islington set in their mansions and second homes in the country, swigging champagne, must be looking on and licking their lips watching these young, blinkered Jezza sycophants.

I find it quite sad.

Anniebach Sat 28-Oct-17 20:15:01

The reporter said alcohol was flowing freely there , explains much

durhamjen Sun 29-Oct-17 00:44:43

And still nobody comments on Gove's 'joke'.

Anniebach Sun 29-Oct-17 02:20:16

Because this thread title is Corbyns Momentum? You have posted about a Tory poster , now it's Gove again.

Iam64 Sun 29-Oct-17 07:42:07

I was shocked but not surprised at Gove's "joke". I heard it re-played several times on the radio news. Only once was it followed by the next bit of the recording in which we heard Neil Kinnock enjoying Gove's ill judged "joke". I've no problem with NK enjoying humour from someone who is loathsome, if it had been funny rather than offensive on so many levels.

Anniebach Sun 29-Oct-17 08:27:09

Think we are all the same when it comes to jokes, I was shocked when some Corbynites here thought Clive Lewis' joke! Was acceptable , same with McDonalds at the 02

durhamjen Sun 29-Oct-17 08:31:56

"The poorly judged analogy – labelled a “rape joke” by critics – was attacked by MPs on all sides. It prompted a furore on social media that also engulfed the BBC’s flagship radio programme, with one of its presenters, Nick Robinson, lambasted for re-tweeting Gove’s comments without criticism. Lord Kinnock was also caught up in the row, having appeared to make light of Gove’s remarks by likening Weinstein, who faces multiple accusations of rape and sexual abuse, which he denies, to a “groper”. The extraordinary row came as concerns about the Westminster bubble’s “misogynstic culture” were raised by the Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn."

Kinnock's okay, though, because he's a good friend of Annie's so above criticism.

Anniebach Sun 29-Oct-17 08:43:16

The three times married Mr Corbyn who dumps a wife then shacked up with a woman over twenty years younger, and an ex banker. He dumps the second wife the same time he meets no 3 .

Anniebach Sun 29-Oct-17 08:46:37

Yes Kinnock is a friend, but no way would I defend a friend if they said what Lewis said, you did Jen . No way would I defend any friend if they called fellow MP's f*****g losers, you did Jen.

Anniebach Sun 29-Oct-17 08:49:03

As was asked on the radio yesterday, how come Corbyn speaks out now when he has been in Westminster for over thirty years

durhamjen Sun 29-Oct-17 09:12:44

He's been speaking out about harassment for over thirty years. It's just that people haven't been bothered enough to listen to him; people like you haven't, have you, and you've been a member all that time.

So you think it's okay for Kinnock to suggest that Weinstein is a groper and that John Humphrys is worse than Weinstein, do you?

For someone who doesn't like Corbyn you know a lot about him.
Why do you say he dumps his wives?
Do you know it wasn't the other way round?

durhamjen Sun 29-Oct-17 09:24:28

"Theresa May now fears the Westminster sex scandal could force her into an emergency reshuffle a source with knowledge of a meeting between the Prime Minister and senior aides told The Sun on Sunday.

"It's been an open secret for years that some MPs overstep the mark," the source said.

The Prime Minister believes the allegations made against politicians are “deeply concerning”, her spokeswoman said on Friday.

Jeremy Corbyn warned in a speech on Saturday that MPs who engage in the abuse and sexual harassment of women must be held accountable for their actions.

The Labour leader said there is a “warped and degrading culture” - where the abuse of women is accepted and normalised and is thriving in the corridors of power, including Westminster."

petra Sun 29-Oct-17 09:29:27

Anniebach
I read this this morning: I think it might answer your question.
" What he really meant, of course, was that labour will take a stand everywhere except in its own back yard.
Sexism must be consigned to history, unless it's labour sexism. In which case it must be rationalised or whitewashed"

Iam64 Sun 29-Oct-17 09:31:01

Will there be changes for the better, we ask ourselves? I do hope the level of public discussion on the issue will lead to improvement.
Sexual harassment, racism, abuse of power are a large part of societies anywhere. At least here in the UK, we have laws that offer some protection. It's the societal norms and conflict about when something is 'banter' or being a 'tactile' person that complicates things.
Sometimes I feel despairing that we make 2 steps forward and 3 back but reflect on the positive changes during my lifetime and buck up a bit.

Anniebach Sun 29-Oct-17 09:44:59

Yes Petra, you summed it up perfectly. Not a squeak when McDonald spoke of Esther Mcvey being a stain on humanity , he claimed it was right to be honest and he was angry when he said it.

If John Stonehouse was to do his vanishing trick now it would be claimed he accidentally fell in the sea

As for Corbyn has been speaking out for years against harassment, he spoke out for years for peace and supported the IRA at the same time.

Eloethan Sun 29-Oct-17 09:52:49

It is ridiculous to lambast a person for having been divorced. There are many MPs - men and women - who have been divorced or had affairs, some of which affairs have resulted in children being born to women other than their wives.

If we are to judge people - inside and outside parliament - by such criteria, many will be found wanting. In my view, unless a person has been found guilty of a criminal act against a spouse, such issues are nobody else's business but the people involved.

maryeliza54 Sun 29-Oct-17 10:02:44

Eloethan such is annies tedious hatred of JC that if he ran into a burning house and managed to save one of the two trapped children, she would castigate him for not saving both

Anniebach Sun 29-Oct-17 10:04:41

Not for being divorced, but married three times does cause me to wonder if the person is of weak character .

Anniebach Sun 29-Oct-17 10:07:08

Not hate. Dislike, distrust, yes , never have been comfortable with hypocrites
