So he has had sentence doubled - about time too!
I wonder what his legal team were hoping for? Sympathy for the poor chap, traumatised by being in prison? angry
Just sorry for the poor Steenkamp family who are presumably having to relive the nightmare.

My assumptions were not about you Friday but about the way you worded your posts there is a big difference, if you notice I said you sounded.... I didn’t say you are

Friday Sun 26-Nov-17 08:34:55

That’s fair enough but my post was in reply to Anniebach and ours must have crossed. It was she who made the assumptions not you.

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 08:39:19

Previous Abortions? How many Friday?

You have read the transcripts of the case yet you don't mention she pleaded guilty

You did speak of her having an abortion as no innocent little woman , for me this is an opinion on abortion

May I suggest you read more than one book on the murder because you certaintly got some facts wrong.

It is not my business if you are a new poster or not

Christinefrance Sun 26-Nov-17 08:46:54

I agree with Jalima the actions of the Steenkamp family are irrelevant, Pistorius killed their daughter. This increased sentence was justified I think.

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 08:50:55

The actions of the Steenkamp family are irrelevant to the killing but not irrelevant to any comments about them as parents.

Friday Sun 26-Nov-17 09:08:52

I’m not going to argue with you Anniebach

I actually think that the righteous indignation expressed by some people on this thread is pretty rich considering the extremely light sentencing going on in the UK right now. That person who killed the little girl in the park got 4 years. Near us a young thug killed a passerby after previously assaulting 5 other random people. He got 4 years too.
Of course they aren't sensational high profile media pumped cases with political overtones but those victims mattered every bit as much to their families too. So much wrong in this world. sad

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 09:19:34

Pistorius is wealthy , another crime

Jalima1108 Sun 26-Nov-17 10:20:10

Jane10 There is plenty of indignation being expressed by people I know about some of the light sentencing in this country. That young girl who killed a little girl in the park I thought got a life sentence with a minimum of 5 years which will be subject to review.

The reason people are particularly interested in the Pistorius case is because of the high profile of the perpetrator - someone known and admired for his athleticism the world over, added to which it was televised.

Jalima1108 Sun 26-Nov-17 10:24:12

Yes, we listened to the local news the other night Jane10 and it was one assault/murder after another sad

Why would anyone attack a 96 year old on his doorstep with a claw hammer? Someone has been arrested already and I hope he is convicted (if guilty)and gets the sentence he deserves.

I seem to recall the Steenkamps accepted money because her father had a stroke two months after she was killed and they were declared bankrupt, they were evicted from their home and had no money whatsoever. Her mother has said she felt uncomfortable about it but it was either that or starve, she has also said she intends to pay it all back to him. I don't think we should be judging their actions unless we have been in a similar situation

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 11:04:31

And I recall they were dependant on money from their daughter , it was selling photographs of themselves at the place they scattered her ashes I found distressing, surely a place they may want to visit privately . Well their choice

Blood money can be paid in South Africa but the Steenkamps rejected this - they needed cash urgently and intend to repay all that was paid to them.

Friday Sun 26-Nov-17 12:14:04

As you say Annie their choice not ours to criticise those we know little about.

maryeliza54 Sun 26-Nov-17 12:16:57

The girl who killed the little girl in the park is severely mentally ill fgs

maryeliza54 Sun 26-Nov-17 12:19:20

So annie you think parents who have lost a child can be freely criticised when in reality we know f* all really about the full situation and even if we did, why criticise anyway? OP murdered her - end of.

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 12:24:35

Friday, you certaintly didn't have a problem with stating your views on Ruth Ellis having an abortion

Maryeliza, I know no more than you ,yet you have no problem with criticising when you know little

Friday Sun 26-Nov-17 12:31:32

D’you know Anniebach there are. any reasons for people losing their innocence. I should imagine having an abortion, would put most people into that category in the same way that a child who has been abused, physically, emotionally or sexually can be said to have lost their innocence? Loss of innocence in not a crime, it more part of the journey of life. Why you should think the worst of people I cannot understand

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 12:37:47

Really Friday? This was the reason for you saying - Ruth Ellis was no innocent little woman she had already aborted a child deliberately . So women who have had abortions can not be described as innocent women , interesting but cruel

Friday Sun 26-Nov-17 12:50:01

You are only seeing one meaning of the word innocence, and that is the opposite of guilty. Because you cannot see beyond that one meaning then you are unable to process the wider concept.

humptydumpty Sun 26-Nov-17 13:03:03

fgs Friday angry I rarely agree with Annie but her interpretation of your post is perfectly reasonable. Why has whether a woman is 'innocent' or not in the way you are saying you meant have anything to do with the case?

Chewbacca Sun 26-Nov-17 13:16:30

I’m not going to argue with you Anniebach 09.08

hmm

maryeliza54 Sun 26-Nov-17 13:39:59

I have not criticised her parents - I stated a fact that we do not know the full situation and even if I did, I wouldn’t criticise them.

Friday Sun 26-Nov-17 13:41:50

Yes thaks for the heads up Chewbacca (and others ?)

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 13:53:21

Criticising is difficult for you Maryeliza?
