Hope this is not “fake news” but relief from the endless speculation.
Good luck to them! ??

Rowantree Sat 02-Dec-17 07:31:48

Oh, and another thing: this isn't really a royal wedding (though we'll pay for it as such). Think about it.

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Dec-17 09:40:56

I said Kate couldn't get it right - either too staid or too short!

The lot who criticise women for how they look, the clothes they wear, etc., and how they compare to other women. I thought equality meant we didn't have to do that any more.

I think you completely misinterpreted my post durhamjen hmm - I meant that Kate is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't - too short or too staid according to the media.

I thought equality meant we didn't have to do that any more. or that we can criticise men and women equally? After all, British fashion can get a boost (or otherwise) when famous people are seen wearing British designed clothes. Apparently. I myself would never know.

Princess Diana made homelessness her first charitable priority after joining the Royal family, and was not afraid to meet those directly affected. and made sure her boys were fully aware of the problems of homelessness.
We do not know what goes on behind the scenes or how much the Royal Family personally contributes to causes which concern them.

durhamjen Sat 02-Dec-17 10:06:52

Sorry, Jalima, I obviously did read it differently.

Annie, you shouldn't make things up.
I never criticised May for wearing that dress, or for wearing leather trousers.
I bet you can't find any post of mine that does.

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Dec-17 10:12:43

I would hate to be on show like that all the time - even when supposedly off duty and relaxing. The range of some camera lens is extraordinary.

POGS Sat 02-Dec-17 10:42:09

It's a simple post from me after reading this thread for a while.

I just wish them well as I would do any other couple getting married from whatever background.

Baggs Sat 02-Dec-17 10:46:24

One can wish a person, or a couple, well and be critical (or complimentary) of their fashion sense or, rather, of the fashions they wear. The two are not mutually exclusive.

POGS Sat 02-Dec-17 10:52:59

Baggs

Ofcourse you can but if your post is in answer to mine I have no interest in what clothing somebody wears but equally I have made no reference to other posts / posters regarding the wearing of clothes , other than I find it interesting to see what others have to say as is their want.

I mean what I say I just wish them well , no other thought beyond that .

nigglynellie Sat 02-Dec-17 11:03:33

I understand that the families are paying for this wedding not the tax payer, so I don't think anyone can beef about the cost!!

maryeliza54 Sat 02-Dec-17 11:20:41

The costs of security paid by us for the wedding will absolutely dwarf any money the families pay

maryeliza54 Sat 02-Dec-17 11:40:35

Any chance of dj having an apology from you ab re the TM dress thread?

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Dec-17 11:45:46

grin

I didn't think that djen needed a bodyguard and always thought she was very good at speaking up for herself.

MaizieD Sat 02-Dec-17 11:46:16

As it's going to be the last royal wedding probably in our lifetimes (George being only 4) and there's nothing we can do about the cost of the security, I really can't get worked up about it.

Maybe people can just console themselves with the fact the the wedding security will be far cheaper than the security for Trump's now cancelled visit.

Oldwoman70 Sat 02-Dec-17 11:49:42

Many dignitaries from other countries will be attending the wedding, they will need protecting. Lots of people will be lining the streets to watch and in the present climate they could be in danger without a large police presence - or do you think we should risk an attack on the crowds or foreign diplomats being killed? The security isn't just for the RF it is for everyone attending who could be at risk from terrorists who would look upon this occasion as an opportunity to kill as many people as possible.

maryeliza54 Sat 02-Dec-17 11:57:10

Of course security has to be provided and paid for - I just wanted to point out that the wedding is not cost free to the public purse just because the families are doing what many other families do and are paying for the wedding. I hadn’t thought of it being the last royal wedding in our lifetime - well that’s something

maryeliza54 Sat 02-Dec-17 12:00:23

Jal that’s a rich post coming from you given how you are quite willing to speak up for other posters. Dj did speak up for herself but ab hasn’t corrected her post - if dJ said anything more she’d probably be accused of bullying

Lynker Sat 02-Dec-17 12:38:51

I'll bet Beatrice and Eugenie will want 'royal'weddings. grin

Oh dear, never thought of that MaizieD shock
Although we can live in hope (that we live that long, I mean!)

Right, last chance saloon, am making bunting and planning my recipes for the Big Day now!

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Dec-17 13:05:02

Maryeliza some posters are not as robust as others and disappear rather than retaliate.

nigglynellie Sat 02-Dec-17 13:42:40

Security costs are always going to be incurred by the state whether it's royalty or heads of state.
Considering the vitriol that annie has endured over the months without any semblance of an apology, why on earth should she apologise over something completely trivial by comparison.

merlotgran Sat 02-Dec-17 13:52:24

I'll bet Beatrice and Eugenie will want 'royal'weddings.

I do hope so, if only to give Kate the chance to turn up in a ridiculous attention seeking hat!

Chewbacca Sat 02-Dec-17 14:01:26

They all wear ridiculous attention seeking hats merlotgran! Remember the pretzel hat that Beatrice wore to a royal wedding? And the blue ensemble that Eugenie wore? Someone apparently paid £81,000 for the pretzel, at auction. grin

merlotgran Sat 02-Dec-17 14:15:44

That's what I meant, *Chewbacca. A chance to get her own back.

NanKate Sat 02-Dec-17 15:17:09

Of course there will be a Coronation for SOME OF US to look forward to in a few years. Now that will bring out all the Republican moaning minis, they will have a field day.

Now where have I put my bunting, and please don't any of you tell me where to put my bunting :-)

maryeliza54 Sat 02-Dec-17 17:06:30

Because what she posted was incorrect and accused dj of something that not only had she not done but in fact on the thread had said something opposite. Vitriol is a matter of opinion but an incorrect statement about what someone posted is not an opinion but a fact. If you are going to criticise someone about what they’d posted, check your facts. It’s easy enough.
