Hope this is not “fake news” but relief from the endless speculation.
Good luck to them! ??

Bring a republican and criticising the concept of monarchy doesn’t make me a moaning Minnie anymore than it makes royalists sycophantic, gushing and stupid. Why be so bloody rude Nankate just because you don’t agree with the republican point of view?

Iam64 Sat 02-Dec-17 17:16:05

Nankate, you could ask about your bunting on one of The archers discussions. PC Harrison aka Carpet Burns is still searching for the missing Ambridge bunting, maybe he could look for yours as well

I don't see why dignitaries need attend the wedding, the couple are lesser royals - probably royal cousins around their own age will be invited, and some show biz and charity people. Kate will have hardly recovered from having baby no 3 and she and William will havectheir hands full with an excited George. If they are chosen as bridesmaids, Mia and Charlotte might steal the day!

merlotgran Sat 02-Dec-17 19:56:31

I would just love Mia Tindall to be a bridesmaid. She's such a little character.

Having seen pictures of her larking around at three day events, the thought of her clutching a posy rather than a ginormous Mr Whippy makes me chuckle.

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Dec-17 20:11:21

Brilliant idea merlotgran - she would steal the show!!

Let's start planning, shall we?

NanKate I can let you know how to make bunting if you like, having never made any until now I found it great fun to do (I've gone off dressmaking, it's boring).

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Dec-17 20:31:45

Well, djen doesn't seem bothered, sure she can rise above it all!

Most of us are neither critical of the monarchy to the point of vitriol or adoring them to the point of being sycophantic.

Most people accept that they are the most pragmatic choice - and the cheapest.

paddyann Sat 02-Dec-17 20:40:59

not the cheapest by a long chalk !!Not even the most sensible or the most efficient .But as I said before the cap doffing ,curtsying people who THINK they are still easants wont see sense .Lets hope the monarchy is gone soon...very soon

Oldwoman70 Sat 02-Dec-17 20:47:03

The last time I checked the RF cost each taxpayer 75p per year, much less than it is calculated they generate in tourism etc. As has been said before those supporting the RF are not cap doffing peasants - it is insulting of you to say so. I find it odd that those claiming to support the working classes insist on using a form of insult which was directed towards the poorer classes in times gone by.

Anniebach Sat 02-Dec-17 20:52:38

Rubbish Paddyann, I know ardent royalists and assure you they do not see themselves as peasants, that was unkind of you, and looking at the crowds on Friday there were quite a lot of young people there, doubt they think they are peasants . I am not a royalist or a republican , but if it came to a vote I would vote for the monarchy, no matter who is head of state they will cost the country. I am sure more visitors come London to see queenie &co than to see any president of any country

suzied Sat 02-Dec-17 21:17:17

How many visitors to London see the Queen?

Anniebach Sat 02-Dec-17 21:27:10

No idea, doubt it's just to see the windsors, the most visited place, is I think, the tower . London Eye popular too, but a royal occasion does bring in visitors

durhamjen Sat 02-Dec-17 21:28:49

Back on the thread, Annie. I'd like an apology for what you said about me criticising May for that dress. I didn't.
I presume you haven't found where I did.

Chewbacca Sat 02-Dec-17 21:32:26

Visitors to royal estate 2016/2017:

Windsor Castle and Frogmore House 1,356,000
Buckingham palace summer opening 556,000
Palace of Hollyrood 380,000
The Royal Mews 214,000
The Queens Gallery 142,000
The Queens Gallery Edinburgh 64,000
Clarence House 11,000

Anniebach Sat 02-Dec-17 21:35:40

Jen, if I knew how to find the thread I would look, as I can't I will accept your word and apologise, to be honest it can be difficult to tell one far left Corbynite from another

Anniebach Sat 02-Dec-17 21:37:24

Wales loses out again , not fair, we did have our own royalty a few years back

Chewbacca Sat 02-Dec-17 21:39:50

"A VisitLondon spokesperson said: “Across the UK it’s estimated that tourism linked to Royal residences such as Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle generates more than £500 million a year and attracts more than 2.7 million visitors.” Russell Imrie, managing director of Edinburgh-based Queensferry Hotels and president of Best Western Great Britain, told The Independent: “Past experience gives evidence that royal events in UK do indeed have a positive impact on UK inbound tourism.

“In my own hotels in Edinburgh and Dunfermline we noticed a positive impact on UK inbound following previous royal weddings.

“This was replicated in Best Western Hotels in major UK inbound locations such as London, Bath, Stratford Upon Avon and York." Eurostar, the cross-Channel train operator, said that the 2011 royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge saw a 28 per cent surge in inbound bookings.

“Bookings were up from across Europe, including France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands,” said a spokesperson. In addition, Eurostar carried 21 per cent more American travellers."

durhamjen Sat 02-Dec-17 21:44:30

Is that an apology, Annie?
It's nothing to do with Corbyn or Corbynites.

Anniebach Sat 02-Dec-17 22:00:45

No need to milk it Jen, I apologised and explained how difficult to remember which Corbynite said what, all so repetitive and all so much the same

nigglynellie Sat 02-Dec-17 22:05:55

The monarchy is more popular than ever, you only have to hear people in the street being interviewed to realise that, so not much chance of its demise in the foreseeable future thank goodness. The thought of a dreary dull president complete with bullet proof car, costing a fortune would be particularly unappealing! Doubt many tourists would be interested in that!! Think of having President Blair?!!!!

nightowl Sat 02-Dec-17 22:45:26

I do find your comments about Corbynites very offensive Annie. There’s really no need to be so rude to people just because they don’t share your political views.

Anniebach Sat 02-Dec-17 22:50:55

Hell bells, what is rude in saying Corbynites say the same things , it is the truth.

durhamjen Sat 02-Dec-17 22:54:48

If we are all the same and all say the same, why did you criticise me for saying something I didn't?
Talking about what May is wearing is nothing to do with Corbynites, as I said before.
And we are nowhere near as repetitive as you are, criticising Corbyn on every thread, whether it's got anything to do with him or not.

Anniebach Sat 02-Dec-17 22:55:16

What childishness, MP's are criticise with one exception , Corbyn, he it is claimed is abused.

Saying Corbynites say the same thing is very offensive

durhamjen Sat 02-Dec-17 22:58:42

Is it? Glad you agree. You'd better stop saying it, then.

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Dec-17 23:01:17

I don't think I am a peasant grin nor does anyone in this country - hilarious though, paddyann grin
And I don't wear a cap and my knees would prevent me from curtseying anyway.
