Carillion was part of a consortium that won a big HS2 contract last year, too.
I wonder what will happen there.

Whitewave, I see Eric Pickles is to be one of those Lords, as the Tories will need street fighters in the Lords. I am sure he feels really happy about that description.

Over the years there have been some policies which seriously alarmed me when I first heard about them -

-forcing councils to sell council houses and forbiding them from using the money to replace them,
- privatising the profitable parts of public enterprise whilst continuing subsidies,
-PFI which means passing on debt to future generations and enriching private companies,
- free schools which means allowing people to set up schools where they are not needed and giving undue influence to some very dubious people and companies.

I can remember having a nasty sense of forboding when I first heard of all these policies and now we can judge the results, I think my instinct was right.

I suspect they are relieved to receive their instructions as groping in the dark is no fun.

Another waste of our money.

I think that if anyone still wanted proof of the incompetence of the Conservative government and their misplaced love of the private sector we have it today with the Carillion sadly.

The government seems to have ignored it's own rules. One profit warning is supposed to trigger the appointment of a Crown representative. Not only did they not do this but three profit warnings appear to have encouraged - you have to ask about the simple ability of those involved and those signing this off - the awarding of three more contracts.

We will no doubt hear more during the day. What I think we have to ask is whether the Conservative party, at least as it is now - the party of the old and frightened - is fit for purpose as a government, not just now but in the future. Does, in fact, the Conservative Party actually have a future?

I wonder how much donation they’ve given to the Tories?

Perhaps they could give it back to the pension fund.

Apparently last May they gave out large dividends to their shareholders. Perhaps they need to be given back as well.

It's the poor employees and the taxpayers who pick up all the fall-out from these Conservative experiments. I wonder who every thought that the Tories knew anything about business?

Possibly because everyone saw the hypocrisy in putting Brandon Lewis in charge of housing policy, when he is a landlord, and one of those who voted it down two years ago.

I wonder how much money we the tax payer have coughed up since June 2016 totally needlessly, like Brexit, rail bailout Carillion etc. I’m sure others can think of more.

If I was a Tory voter I would be absolutely furious at the way Tories have increased public spending only to give taxpayers money to their cronies and donors, whilst at the same time slashing the services to those it was meant for.
