May is secure as long as there is no one of any consequence with half a brain to take her place.
The trouble with such a weak and incompetent government is that nothing with any length of foresight can be planned. This government only seems to react and there is no leadership whatsoever.

Has the Conservative Party lost all sense of competence
(1001 Posts)This is not an attack on individuals but on the ethos of conservatism. Since the war the CP has created the myth that they are competent. Recently we have seen:
Incompetence with the economy.
Incompetence with benefits
Incompetence with state pensions
Incompetence with support for business and industry via infrastructure
Incompetence in many areas with government administration
Incompetence with transport
Incompetence in the criminal justice system
Incompetence in defence
Incompetence in education
Incompetence in the NHS
Incompetence in running their own election
I am sure there are other areas. Why does anyone vote for this incompetence? Surely we deserve better?

and then another one from Gibraltar to Spain
Why would you when you can either walk or drive along the road that goes between the two countries
The road looked pretty safe to me when I was there a couple of weeks ago.
Tweet from John Cleese concerning Leveson.
“May is conspiring with the press against implementing Leveson because her only chance of being re-elected is by not upsetting, Dacre, Murdoch and the Barclays.
We live in a deeply corrupt society”
petra is there a toll on that road now?
About 5€ isn’t it? That’s if you want to go to Gibraltar!! Personally I can’t think of anywhere worse.
It has to be done though, even if just once.
No idea why they'd want to, petra.
Any idea why Boris would want to build a bridge across the channel, when there's a perfectly good tunnel?

Perhaps you could ask your Spanish DIL the answer to the question that youasked Re a bridge between Spain and Gibraltar.
My Gibraltar trip was purely business
As she's from the Barcelona area, I doubt she or any of her family are bothered.

And they know that Spain shares a land border with Gibralter.
"Andy Burnham raised the issue of social care – responsibility for which was added to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt’s brief in the Cabinet reshuffle of January 8. He said: “Social care staff are in an even worse position. They do 15-minute slots, they don’t get the travel time between the 15-minutes, so they don’t even get paid the National Minimum Wage.
“Social care in this country is utterly broken. I tried to fix it as Health Secretary, since then there’s just been point-scoring about it… It is time for social care fully to come within the public National Health Service… Older people have seen services utterly slashed and there has been profiteering on the backs of these vulnerable people.”
Ms James’s protestations ring hollow when one realises that she was listed in a dossier compiled by the Unite Union linking MPs who had voted for the Conservative Health and Social Care Act 2012 – which introduced private, profit-driven health companies into the NHS – with the same companies that would profit from the change.
Ms James was listed as having “co-founded public relations company, Shire Health Group. The company was sold to business partner Ogilvy & Mather for £4 million in 2004, with the Conservative MP Margot James appointed Head of European Healthcare for marketing parent WPP Group. She stood down from WPP in 2008. WPP are a marketing giant with a massive list of healthcare clients. One of their companies, Grey Healthcare Group, boasts having 14 of the top 15 pharmaceutical companies as their clients.”
Interesting. Margot James who was on QT on Thurday standing up for the NHS and saying there was no intention of privatising it was a founder of Shire Health Group.
I wonder if she's still a member.
"A private healthcare firm, which recently took over the contract to run health services on the edge of Bristol, asked staff not to report their safety concerns to the health watchdog.
Registered managers in health and social care have a legal obligation to report issues to the Care Quality Commission if they feel their service is unsafe.
But Virgin Care, which took on care services in Bath and North East Somerset earlier this yea,r asked its managers to ‘hold off’ from contacting the CQC as they struggled with IT issues affecting community health and social care services.
Virgin Care recently took on the running of community care in the area to the south and east of Bristol, including in Keynsham, Saltford and Whitchurch.
But in the first three months in charge of community care, patients had appointments cancelled, letters and reports were not sent out, and nurses had problems updating patient records.
Virgin Care said it had "shared comprehensive details with the CQC and they have not raised any concerns".
The private company said it had IT issues under control in its first report to the council in July.
But two weeks earlier, a senior manager had emailed service managers asking them to help “manage the situation” by not reporting their concerns to the CQC."

and yes, I know it is from seven years ago. That's the point.
Despite that, I would still rather Andy Burnham was Leader of the Labour Party.
I always thought that the Spanish were very interested in Gibraltar, but perhaps I was mistaken.
That's like suggesting those who live in the Orkneys should be interested in Boris's new bridge. I bet they are not.
Spain is a big country, particularly when you live near to the border with France.
People in the Orkneys may have no use for the proposed bridge but their taxes will still be helping pay for it.
Actually, I don't think they will, Granny23. I think it's a non-starter.
This is the fourth time that Maybot has threatened to deal with corporate fat cats.

This man is going to be deported to Afghanistan today, if it is not stopped.
Just shows how inhumane the government is.
I have noticed the Torygraph is asking for May's removal from number 10. About time, but it will not save this man.
Who are the Torygraph suggesting to replace her, dj?

Labour party? Not only May but the government is not up to the job.
I would love to see May actually making an effort to control her cabinet today. The long trailed bid for the leadership - or, as he calls it, bid for more money for the NHS will happen today folks. I love the description of him in today's Waugh Zone from the HuffPost as "playing the role of the Cabinet's rodent-in-chief, widely trailing his demand for £100m a week extra for health spending (the net equivalent of his infamous £350m a week on the Vote Leave battlebus)".
Surely he should have some sort of suspension? Shouldn't May just say good morning to them all and then ask Boris to leave as it is obvious he has no idea of how the Cabinet works. Like so many Brexiteers in the government (and outside) the idea of democracy ends at "we won" and now he is working on winning the leadership. How could anyone ever trust the man?
"There’s a great irony in that the £5bn injection of cash is exactly the same figure that Jeremy Corbyn and John Ashworth are set to demand for the health service in a big London rally with doctors and nurses on Thursday. I reported last year that some in Labour felt that the party should have promised a ‘Brexit dividend’ for the NHS and outflanked the Tories with a pledge of its own."
From the same article.
The S.O. has told me that it appears Hammond is pretty annoyed that Johnson ie foreign secretary is telling everyone how to run/finance the NHS!
