Day 18 of the Brexit advent

The average salary is £428 pa worse off since the referendum because of Brexit

whitewave Mon 18-Dec-17 17:01:53

Well the future of our country for future generations took 11/2 hrs of the cabinets time today.

Needless to say there was no agreement.

whitewave Mon 18-Dec-17 17:06:43

Whisper is that the Tories are set to pack the Lords to fiddle the vote.

Good ain’t it living in such a democratic country

durhamjen Mon 18-Dec-17 17:29:16

Can they do that? Do you mean at the New Year's honours list?

Surely people don't want more than 800 lords.
There are 50 more than any other party as it is.
250 Tory, 180 crossbench, 200 Labour and 100 Liberal.

If they can't swing the vote on that makeup, they don't deserve to win anyway.

Lord Adonis tweeted so it might have legs.

durhamjen Mon 18-Dec-17 18:41:05

Adonis does have legs, fortunately, unlike many Greek statues.

Ben Bradshaw tweeted

“ the comedy of errors that is Brexit has a new clown. Daniel Hannan is regarded by some as the powerhouse of Euroscepticism, yet masquerading as the president of a respected policy institute, he has now fallen flat on his face”

Had to remove the wording think tank and institute from the leave campaigns so called advisory body..

Embarrassing eh!

whitewave Mon 18-Dec-17 18:46:32

grin

jura2 Mon 18-Dec-17 19:11:23

Daniel Hannan who told everyone before the vote that no-one, burt no-one, with half a brain, was considering leaving the Single Market and the Customs Union?

Did any of you hear Rees-Mogg's incredible attack on Mrs May in the Commons today. Who needs enemies when you have 'friends' like him !?!

whitewave Mon 18-Dec-17 19:14:34

Oh no! JRM The brextremists it’s are beginning to show their teeth again. They are rattled.

Hannan always strikes me as a humbug

Umunna asks the PM to ensure that the workers directive would not be scraped.
Maybot failed to assure him that it will be retained.

One of those project fear warnings

whitewave Mon 18-Dec-17 19:25:54

I see those Tories who have been threatened by
Brexiters, have said the Heil and Torygraph encouraged this behaviour.

durhamjen Mon 18-Dec-17 19:46:49

While still reading them....

whitewave Mon 18-Dec-17 19:53:36

Rudd declined Coopers request to criticise the Heil.

Now remind me - why would that be?

durhamjen Mon 18-Dec-17 20:39:03

However, good things can happen.

Maybot has said that the U.K. will not be in the SM or CU but will continue with the same access

Chris Grey

“ how much more if this nonsense do we have to it up with? Whether you are pro or anti-brexit it is just insulting to everyone, to state as the U.K. central policy ambition, something which by definition is impossible.

Here here

durhamjen Mon 18-Dec-17 20:48:03

This is a direct result of Brexit. Nobody would have dared put up a sign like this pre-referendum.

When I saw this elsewhere, I did think it was a wind-up- but it is for real, apartheid all over again.

Surely it shoud be reported to police and taken down and owners warned, and fined n fact. Shameful in the extreme.

durhamjen Mon 18-Dec-17 21:02:38

It says they could face legal action.

This is wrong, too.

There was someone in Kent who refused to let his property to ”furriners” he was prosecuted I think.

durhamjen Mon 18-Dec-17 23:02:12

Wasn't Nigel, was it?

Editorial about Maybot speech yesterday - extracts
“The underlying fantasy contained in May’s speech yesterday that she is the master of Britain’s fate.......not true. It is the EU, United, clear and principled who is in charge.”
Compare and contrast that with the shambolic, half truths and unprincipled approach of the brexiter negotiators.

“A significant minority of her cabinet (but a tiny minority of parliament) see Brexit as an opportunity to take back control, but for them it isn’t about parliamentary sovereignty, but scrapping as many business costs as possible. Low taxes, regulations, pension obligations, workplace rights and employment protection. They are already pushing to abandon the working time directive.
This isn’t what the working class voted for in the referendum. They voted for more security not less. They did not vote for the freedom to work more hours for less pay and fewer rights. But this is what the brextremists are determined to give them.”

jura2 Tue 19-Dec-17 10:25:44

Dreadful isn't it? Project fear some will say - others however can see what this will bring. If some say Labour lost influence because of the Unions and strikes- I'd predict they have seen nothing yet- tragically.

Do they really think people will just lie down and say-no problem with working more hours, taking our pension 2 or 3 years later, losing maternity rights, getting rid of minmum wage, etc, etc - with a smile and a 'ah well we voted for Brexit, so it is only fair we pax the price' - really?

Jalima1108 Tue 19-Dec-17 10:28:13

Oh dear, can't go fishing with my Eastern European relatives when they come over.
Ridiculous sign, I don't know how they think they can get away with it.
That is not legal, surely? Sorry, but that will still be illegal post-Brexit.

whitewave Tue 19-Dec-17 14:23:36

jalima grin something like 95% or more of our laws are domestic.

Only those relating to our trade with Europe have come from Brussels which we of course were very influential in forming.
