A continuation of www.gransnet.com/forums/news_and_politics/1241620-Corbyns-Momentum

Corbyns unknown peace prize was in the Mail today apparently. He joins a long list of people awarded peace prizes you've never heard of. Like the Confucius Peace Prize won by Mugabe.

Must have been, Maizie.
I thought Corbyn had done quite well at that at the last election, too.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 03-Jan-18 10:37:09

He hasn't lost Primrose's vote - he never had it. Some votes are not worth chasing as you will loose more of the principles you stand on, and therefore your core voters, in order to get them. He does not need 100% of the votes and can afford to ignore any extremist views. As I tend to ignore those people who do not argue the political points just attack Corbyn the man most of the time..

What does anyone really care about such attacks. He's flawed, you're flawed, I'm flawed - so what. I want to know what people's politics are, not nonsense about what they did half a century ago. Young people will certainly not be swayed by such tittle tattle.

As a newcomer to this thread (I think?) - is it possible that Corbyn does comment on all these things, but the media don't report it?
To make him look weak.

lemongrove Wed 03-Jan-18 10:40:21

Since you ask so nicely......
Corbyn is a wimp of the first order.Never speaks out until he is prodded to it.As Leader of the Opposition he should take the lead! The clue is in the name.
Look how quiet he kept about the situation in Venezuela, so don’t expect much about Iran.

Latest poll.

Lemon - ‘Desperately need you’ grin yes, I just bet you do!

Ha ha lemon - I opened the door to that thread, looked in and saw the anti-government left wingers having a love-in amongst themselves. It would have been rude to interrupt. grin

So many news and politics threads tend to be the same handful of left wing posters talking to themselves, convincing themselves Corbyn and co (Momentum) are coming to save them, that any other ideology or form of government is unacceptable and that Brexit won't happen.

A psychoanalyst would have a field day. smile

Says it all really - young people and swayed in the same sentence. Labour rely on the gullibility, exuberance and "student politics" mentality of those who've hardly lived at all. They harvest the young. Look at Jezza and Glastonbury. Such exploitation, such gullible and privileged young people.

The Labour party is full of middle classes telling the working class what they want.

durhamjen Wed 03-Jan-18 11:01:59

This is where he was on Christmas Eve.

Haven't seen it reported anywhere else but on RT.

Yes, it is all very well shouting the odds for years from the back benches but when some people are actually put 'in charge' they cannot function without step by step instructions from those pulling the strings.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 03-Jan-18 11:04:45

If you believe that is a political view rather than a personal one I can only feel sorry for you. Sadly, I am not surprised.

MaizieD Wed 03-Jan-18 11:07:39

but when some people are actually put 'in charge' they cannot function without step by step instructions from those pulling the strings.

Gosh, that sounds so like the proceedings of our current PM. Except her strings are being pulled by the billionaire, no taxpaying, owners of much of our media...

Jalima1108 Wed 03-Jan-18 11:09:40

My post was my opinion (and that of many others too from what I hear in RL).

trisher Wed 03-Jan-18 11:17:19

lemongrove Corbyn has always spoken out. He is a talented and committed orator with principles. That's why he was applauded at Glastonbury and many other places. He probably isn't speaking out about Iran because he knows that the situation is not simple and that many of the people who are commenting have their own political agenda.
This idea that young people don't know what they want is pathetic. I heard a great comment -that you can't expect them to support a captalist economy that they have no stake whatsoever in.

Day6 Wed 03-Jan-18 11:18:51

Yes, I have heard that criticism of him too Jalima. Corbyn has become a more polished public speaker but you get the feeling that he avoids anything contentious and has a store of rehearsed answers (which say nothing) when faced with probing questions.

He is a puppet.

Day6 Wed 03-Jan-18 11:20:09

Corbyn has always spoken out

From the safety of the back benches or when at rallies and surrounded by left wing supporters.

durhamjen Wed 03-Jan-18 11:21:04

The leader of Iran has only spoken out in the last three hours.
I don't see him being criticised.

durhamjen Wed 03-Jan-18 11:23:07

Would you like to comment on Corbyn going on his own to a homeless centre on Christmas Eve, Day6?
Silly question, I know, but I live in hope.

I think he would get a lot of votes for that if it was in the MSM.

trisher Wed 03-Jan-18 11:23:56

So where does Theresa speak? At festivals? At open rallies? At events in the centre of cities. No. Remember before the election, car parks in out of the way places or assemblies of the Tory faithful in closed meetings.

Jalima1108 Wed 03-Jan-18 11:24:55

Glastonbury
Such fun
grin

Jalima1108 Wed 03-Jan-18 11:26:59

that was an opinion btw, not a political statement.

Day6 Wed 03-Jan-18 11:27:06

"you can't expect them to support a captalist economy that they have no stake whatsoever in."

Yet so many young people stand to inherit lots of money. Millennials will inherit in a bigger way than any generation that has gone before. They have been brought up in privately owned homes and have had the privilege of working parents who have acquired property in the course of their lifetime. Most of us grow out of the idealism behind student politics and find the realism when we work, pay taxes and have aspirations.

The irony is that most of those at Glastonbury were privileged young people who could afford thousands in order to attend the festival! He was speaking to a crowd of youngsters who would take off their left-wing blinkers once they had to start paying the bills themselves.

Day6 Wed 03-Jan-18 11:29:08

"Would you like to comment on Corbyn going on his own to a homeless centre on Christmas Eve, Day6?"

It was a photo opportunity for scheming politician.

I have more respect for the people who work in them on Christmas day who don't seek recognition.

Jalima1108 Wed 03-Jan-18 11:31:05

I missed that; did he take some pots of home-made jam with him to hand out?

durhamjen Wed 03-Jan-18 11:32:55

It wasn't. There is no photo. We only know about it because the woman he gave a box of chocolates to put it on facebook, as an afterthought to the one about the shame she felt when a man died there. She was working there.

All you are doing there is comfirming your own prejudice.

durhamjen Wed 03-Jan-18 11:36:32

"In a separate post Ros said Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who has repeatedly challenged the degree of effort made by the Government to end homelessness, turned up at the shelter.

“One of the most difficult days I’ve ever had at Crisis ended with an unannounced visit from Jeremy Corbyn, who wandered into our shelter on his own (without media or any entourage) and presented me with a box of chocolates!

“He then spent time chatting to volunteers and guests, some of whom he recognized and remembered by name from other homeless services.
“On a simple, human level that’s pretty impressive.” "
