The horrors of the 70s !!!!!!

Oh, FFS, you make it sound like an absolute nightmare which it absolutely wasn't (unless I was living in a paralell universe). It was challenging from time to time but we coped.
In the 70s we had manufacturing industry, steel, coal etc. Most people who wanted to work had jobs, and could change jobs without too much problem. Mortgages were expensive but house prices (and rents) were still affordable and didn't plunge buyers into years of crippling debt.

We didn't have such extreme poverty, the gap between rich and poor was actually closing, no food banks, no people sleeping in the street and freezing to death, no zero hours jobs.

I wonder how people can shut their eyes to the quite awful realities of life in the UK today in order to demonise the 70s

I can see that the 70s could look very attractive to the young.

Not the same number going to university in the seventies as the nineties . And the strikes? If the seventies were so wonderful how come the country rejected far left labour in 1983 and it took until 1997 for another labour win. The country was sick of the strikes, as feared the rise of the far left, always been a fear of communism in this country . So now they are back in a different disguise

The seventies were a good time for the young. They could go to university with a grant to live on.
Then they could get jobs and afford to buy houses.
The NHS was in good nick. They weren't closing maternity units and hospitals.

What you missed out of your response is that it is Paul Mason's OPINION.
I'd love to see his final paragraph come true.

No long standing labour supporter can deny this lot will take the country back to the days of Livingstone, Hatton etc. It's been Corbyn and McDonalds dream since . They target the young because they were not around in the seventies, didn't live through the horrors of the seventies. But the far left supporters here do remember it and want to take the country back to those times.

I will answer your request for a response to your Guardian Link and Paul Mason .

Why, because it goes back to your comment about my gaining my information from ' labour list ' making an assumption I rely on biased articles/links for my information. I said I find it valuable to hear or read biased coverage from time to time to be able to agree with or argue against it's content, dependent on how factual the content is and that can vary from fake news to reasoned debate.

So let's start with the question of bias.

Paul Mason is still presumably a member of Momentum, if not he was.
Paul Mason is an. avid Corbyn supporter.
Paul Mason is like quite a few people who say they 'were' Marxist.

Paul Mason does not refer to a generalised 'elite' he targets the Conservatives as though only Conservatives are the 'elite' He does however when talking of his days at the BBC call none Conservatives 'Progressive People', presumably they are the BBC 'elite' employees from the Guardian, Labour, Lib Dems etc. ?

The title of his article " The British elite is at war with itself – on a scale we’ve never seen before " would be of interest and indeed debatable if he had not been so obvious in his ploy to stick it to the Tories and speak to the converted.

There is one part in the article that tells you all you need to know about Paul Masons view, Momentums view and some in the Labour Party , it's this :

"Instead, because the elite has already lost control of Labour, it threatens to put in power a government that will switch off the great privatisation machine, save universal public health provision and empower workers to an extent that has not been imagined since the 1970s."

"EMPOWER WORKERS TO AN EXTENT THAT HAS NOT BEEB IMAGINED SINCE THE 1970's "

Do you think that links to John McDonnell when he uses the word 'INSURRECTION'? It certainly falls in line with comments from many posters who link those at the helm / were at the helm of Momentum with the 1970's MILITANT.

There is of course an irony in avoiding connecting Labour /Momentum , the left of politics and the 'elite', especially Jon Lansman/ James Schneider/Seumas Milne/Lady Nugee/ Keir Starmer et al.

Now I know we won't agree but at least I gave you a reply.
