trisher you attacked me in your post at 9:51, along with all the other left wingers who've posted. And GracesGran has summed up pretty well my own position in her last paragraph of her post at 17:44.

Getting personal is never a good idea.

Sorry Wilma I attacked "old lefties" who have lost sight of the ideals and policies they once had. I really don't know if this applies to you, if it doesn't I apologise. But I don't apologise to anyone who posts that they believe in left wing policies and then castigates anyone who wants to see such policies brought back.

Even with grants for Higher Education etc some families were too poor to let their 16 year olds to stay on at school for the sixth form.

Oh agreed, Jalima.
I was the lucky one in the family. My siblings didn't benefit from a University education, although they have done well for themselves in terms of career. Today, we'd have all stayed on at school and gone to Uni, as my children have done. It was a huge sacrifice for my parents to allow me to have two years in the sixth form and three years away studying. It really meant no more income for the household. I remember my Dad sending me postal orders for paltry amounts so I could pay for the coach home instead of hitch-hiking. I worked through every student break as my parents couldn't really afford me to live off them without contributing. Times were very hard. Dad was also hit by all the wild cat strikes of the 60s and 70s and I remember him crying at the kitchen table late at night because we had very little coming in to the house.

Mon 22-Jan-18 18:03:30 Just in case there is any doubt this was an answer to the 'intellectual' (as she described herself Day6.

trisher Mon 22-Jan-18 18:10:44

I don't think I said the old system was fair GGMk2 I did say the present system is unworkable and will result in a massive debt the tax payer will have to pay off.
None of your business what or where I studied and I wouldn't dream of asking you such a thing. Personal information has no place in a political argument.

Day6 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:16:58

"they believe in left wing policies"

Explain a left wing policy to me - one that Corbyn and co would want.

Also explain how the vast majority of the working and elderly population of the UK (and not only 'the poor' you are forever mentioning) would benefit? Thanks. We'd hate to be forgotten, or just the suppliers of funds for Labour plans. Not fair really, is it?

I'd hope as a tax payer and long term contributor to the UKs coffers that there might be something in it for me. I don't think that's unreasonable.

Bear in mind, most of the over 60s are still paying taxes via occupational pensions or work.

Tell us how EVERYONE in the UK would be better off under Cobyn and Momentum's Labour. Thanks.

(Not one Labour politician has been able to convince me so far, so this should be interesting.)

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 22-Jan-18 18:20:04

It doesn't apply to me and I accept your apology.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:24:34

Why the hell should I. Who on earth do you think you are dictating to others? You just mix it Day6 and I have very little time for you.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:26:26

You think your are intelligent?

GracesGranMK2 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:29:14

Just to please the pedants it should be you're of course.

Primrose65 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:30:37

I think I'm intelligent. Most posters here are, in my opinion. I've certainly learnt a lot from many posters, even ones I disagree with.

Day6 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:31:30

Why the hell should I. Who on earth do you think you are dictating to others? You just mix it Day6 and I have very little time for you.

Ah, yet you ask the same questions of others who think along different lines GracesGran. We are always being asked to provide answers or explain.

Can you not show explain left wing policies and how they would benefit EVERY SINGLE SECTOR OF SOCIETY IN THE UK, or am I right in thinking anyone with a job will merely be a cash cow to fund Labour's socialist utopia/revolution?

The tables have turned and you don't like it. I have very little time for you either btw.

varian Mon 22-Jan-18 18:37:06

I think only about 3% of school leavers went to university in the early sixties, and believe me, they did not all appear to be that intelligent. Some of them were either stupid or able to give a good impression of a stupid person.

Someone I know was a lecturer at a college in the late sixties and I remember him saying then "It is impossible to underestimate the intelligence of the students".

I don't really know what intelligent young people did in the 1960s but it's pretty obvious they didn't all become students.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:38:16

Nope Day6, I can't remember asking you to explain anything. Why would I? I have occasionally asked for facts from other members when they say something outlandish - after all it could be true and I should know that shouldn't I.

I will never answer a question of you. You just don't rate that high. This started as an attack thread and has continued as an attack thread. I really don't rate people who do that.

I don't like you, I have to admit to that. Do I have to; is it in GN rules? I don't like that? No idea what you are talking about.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:39:23

of from Time for tea.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:40:51

We could compare IQ scores if that would make people feel good Primrose.

Jalima1108 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:41:53

I can remember hitch-hiking too Day6 - the thought of my DD and DGD doing that fills me with horror! However, we were more terrified by some of the bad driving and always thought we would be OK because there were two of us.

Day6 Mon 22-Jan-18 18:42:34

Apologies Trisher. My post of 17:50:04 was directed at the remark of GracesGranMK2 and not you. Sorry.

lemongrove Mon 22-Jan-18 18:45:45

What childish and petulant comments from you GGM2
Time for your tea, probably a good idea.

varian your comments of the students from the 60’s as stupid is plainly rubbish.

varian Mon 22-Jan-18 18:55:21

Why do you say that Lemongrove?
