I said Marxist lite actually.

whitewave Thu 25-Jan-18 13:49:21

Still meaningless though

lemongrove Thu 25-Jan-18 13:50:23

Being a ‘Socialist’ (if you are) white then you will love my idea of what Corbyn would bring to the table. Not everybody would agree with you though, which is why I doubt that he will ever be PM.

Anniebach Thu 25-Jan-18 13:53:12

Wilma, you now have the same attitude as a few others, please do not advise me to reconsider how I read a post ,

why do some need to control others

Day6 Thu 25-Jan-18 13:55:53

annie you could get the thread back on track by describing what a communist Labour U.K. would look like

Strange you should mention that whitewave

I have just been reading about the Communist Party in Britain.

Did you know they didn't put up any candidates in the last election? This from a Spectator article.

"At last year’s general election the CommunistPB announced that for the first time since its formation in 1920 it would not field any candidates in order to give Labour the best possible shot at government.

‘If Corbyn is elected, things will be moving in the right direction,’ said one older member, who has been in the Communist party since the late 1970s. ‘It’s a matter of priming the ground.’

Primed ground or not, the aim of a communist party operating within a social democracy is revolution.

Political momentum has shifted in their favour. A resurgent Labour party has as its shadow chancellor a man who described Marx, Engels and Lenin as his ‘most significant’ intellectual inspirations. And extreme leftist politics is beginning to recoup the cultural cachet among the under-thirties that it lost in the intervening decades.

They are increasingly social media savvy, too. In the same way that Momentum in Britain use memes and social video to promote their cause, so does Young Communist League. The technology has helped them to organise and make the most of their small membership base. (Just like Momentum. See how it's grown because of online promotion.)

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 13:56:15

And the reason for that is the action taken by Gordon Brown. I am not saying he was the best Chancellor or Prime Minister, but he stopped Blair taking us into the Euro zone and he bailed out the banks avoiding a much larger economic collapse. Even right wing economists acknowledge that with hindsight it was the right thing to do.

whitewave Thu 25-Jan-18 13:56:56

What is a socialist in your terms lemon and I will tell you if I am? However I very much doubt it.

Anniebach Thu 25-Jan-18 13:59:50

Good post Day6,

Anniebach Thu 25-Jan-18 14:00:23

True Wilma

Day6 Thu 25-Jan-18 14:00:32

whitewave - You have no idea what a communist Labour U.K. will look like because it won’t happen, and nothing in Corbyns, Momentum or McDonnells rhetoric indicates that is what will happen.

No, but the British Communist Party is leaving the field clear for them and supports their efforts. See post above.

I find that very telling.

lemongrove Thu 25-Jan-18 14:01:19

Somebody who agree with Corbyn and McDonnell and has no worries about Momentum infiltrating the LP whitew

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 14:06:13

It was a suggestion Annie, not advice.

Day6 the Comunist Party's General Secretary Robert Griffiths actually said victory for Mr Corbyn at the general election would be

“the first step towards a formation of left-led government at Westminster”.

He added his party was in “no doubt” that Mr Corbyn’s party “serves the interests of workers and their families”.

Slightly different.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 14:23:41

I'm not a Socialist, but I do support Corbyn. I don't like John McDonnell, but I do support some of what Momentum is doing.

You all know as well as I do that any party that wins a general election will succeed in implementing a fraction its manifesto. I consider myself to be a social democrat and I will vote Labour in the hope that it replaces this government and implements as many of its own policies as it can before it in turn is replaced.

Anniebach Thu 25-Jan-18 14:25:01

He was still the General Secretary of the communist party .

Why would this party decide not to put forward any candidates for the election ? They have always had candidates , Corbyn is leader and they withdraw

Jalima1108 Thu 25-Jan-18 14:27:03

If left-wing genuine socialist Ken Livingstone (Red Ken to some) sacked John McDonnell for being too extreme and too far to the left that must say something.
John McDonnell's aim, according to his Who's Who entry, is “generally fermenting [sic] the overthrow of capitalism”
I presume he means 'fomenting'.

Jeremy Corbyn is not the real danger, he and Diane Abbott will be dispensed with when they are no longer needed.

Jalima1108 Thu 25-Jan-18 14:29:39

I hope it won't have to come to that Wilma - I hope that all social democrats will find some strength and manage to overcome this extremism that has taken over the party so quickly.

whitewave Thu 25-Jan-18 14:31:52

day6 perhaps you can tell me what needs to happen to turn the U.K. into a communist country?

Jalima1108 Thu 25-Jan-18 14:34:54

McDonnell?

whitewave Thu 25-Jan-18 14:40:36

The nonsense being spouted on here is no different to me declaring that May is a closet fascist, or an extreme neo-liberal economy. I could point to lots of instances where far right Tories have indicated that they would prefer a more authoritarian government. Or one where low tax, low regulation and small state apply.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 14:42:13

Annie isn't the chance to remove the Tory government reason enough?

Jalima I don't think the Labour Party will elect anyone from the far right as leader.

whitewave Thu 25-Jan-18 14:42:47

No jalima McDonnell will not turn the U.K. into a Marxist/communist country, but I am interested in understanding what yours and other posters think must be done to turn the U.K. into a Marxist/communist country

Jalima1108 Thu 25-Jan-18 14:46:08

I never said it would be.
Nothing to understand as it won't happen, the British always steer away from the edge of extremism.
Even if McD would like it to be so.

whitewave Thu 25-Jan-18 14:46:36

Corbyn has written a very moving message in the Holocaust Memorable book. The full text can be seen on his Facebook page.

whitewave Thu 25-Jan-18 14:47:28

What is the evidence that McDonnell wants a communist U.K.?

Jalima1108 Thu 25-Jan-18 14:49:04

The nonsense being spouted on here is no different to me declaring that May is a closet fascist,

whitewave McDonnell is not in the closet, he has stated openly what his aims are and who he would like to lynch etc.
I am surprised that some of the more sensible members of the LP - even those closest to Jeremy, think he is acceptable as a Shadow Minister.
