Lord Mendelssohn was there as chairman of a charity who was to receive a donation . Very active in the Jewish community ,Charities such as Friends of Israel , perhaps his biggest sin is being involved with Progress ?

As he is a Jew it must have been a difficult decision for Corbyn to make !

I agree Annie - I have not been able to find out exactly why he was removed other than 'attending'.

True ' knowledge based in fact is not an opinion' hence I mentioned posters who state they know nothing of Momentum / very little of Momentum but have posted in connection to matters debated about Momentum for well over a year. I for one am happy to accept their statement, protestations.

There has been mention of posters beliefs and having a blinkered view and that is not the domain of either left or right of politics!

If it is blinkered to hold a view that Corbyn/McDonnell have throughout their political lifetime had connection with / flirted with Communist/Marxist views/groups/people then I am happy to for you to consider me blinkered but I in turn reserve the right to in return call anyone who does not accept that to be the case equally 'blinkered'.

Not sure what your take is on that point but my take is the Unions and Momentum are 'both' in control of Labour .

That can obviously only be the state of affairs from the time Corbyn became Labour Leader.

I'm not sure all posters here agree on the motives of Momentum, Jura. You might think they are 'honourable' but others would disagree.

And not all actions by unions are humane and honourable , unless you supported strikes which meant the dead couldn't be buried or having so much control they insisted the people in my village paid towards removal of two tips, the third having killed our children. It was only when a labour government not controlled by the unions and over twenty years later paid the money back to the village

Annie your post about the Communist Party and the KKK is possibly the most absurd I've read on GN. Your post about the humanity of Trade Unions sounds like a memory from decades ago. Thatchers government introduced legislation castrating the unions so they are now a shadow of their former selves. Few people today would recognise the situations you described. Reading your posts on this thread I would never in a million years have guessed you are long time member of the Labour Party.

So in two sentences every wealthy person is a tax dodger, and they were abusing young women too in the recent Presidents Club scandal.

Posters talk of the North, London etc, the best schooling for politics is the South Wales Valleys, where one heard men hold meetings around street lights, even on the annual trip with the miners club for a day at the sea.

No difference in the communist party supporting Corbyn to the KKK supporting Trump, they support the leader who shares their beliefs, unless you believe Trump isn't racist

As for me speaking of facts a few decades ago, some here speak of the 1945 election, you never pull them up on speaking of over seven decades ago .

I've found an old documentary about the LP in the 80's made in 1995 ('The Wilderness Years', BBC2) and the first episode documents the challenge by Tony Benn. It includes short clips of Jon Lansman, who ran his deputy leadership campaign and the comparison between then and now is remarkable.

I don't understand the speedy removal of Lord Mendelsohn.
Me neither, apparently he is 'guilty by association'.
Unless, of course, Corbyn has evidence that he was guilty of lewd behaviour or was aware it was happening close by him and did or said nothing then I do not see why he was sacked.

Annie I've never seen anyone speak of the 1945 election. And who talks about the best places for politics schooling? The South Wales mining industry was decimated by the 84/85 strike and my whole point about the unions is Thatcher severely restricted their powers. You are talking about the climate of over 30 years ago and I fully support learning lessons from history, but we live in a different world now.

I need to take a break from this thread again.
