humpydumpty, it went further left in 1983 . I want what you want for the country but to achieve anything we need to be in power and to gain power we need the votes of middle England , the votes from the north of England and South Wales are not enough .

Do you honestly believe Gordon Brown is similar to a Tory MP, I know him and I assure you he is of the left but not the far left. I may be wrong but I do not think the country wants a union led or a Marxist led government .

Initially I really liked GB but I have to admit I went off him when house prices started soaring - it seemed to me he was a bit too happy with all the stamp duty the government was raking in, to want to put any curbs on borrowing, to the great detriment of working-class people.

I was rather suspicious of some of the things he did as Chancellor but thought he would bring more depth and gravitas to the role of Prime Minister than Blair and his fondness for celebrities ever did.
Unfortunately, he came across as rather ill-tempered and dull - but since those days seems a much more charismatic character.

I can happily agree with your opinion but he is discussing, and it appears, being asked about how he sees things going forward. I feel quite often that union pronouncements are not what I would say. He must have thought it worth going into the detail but I couldn't begin to know why. Perhaps someone who has had more to do with unions could enlighten us.

Personally I really don't want another referendum but think the vote should be in parliament. His members have suffered greatly under this government so perhaps he feels it is equally important to get rid of them as to sort out Brexit. I would really be interested to hear what other know about unions taking positions like this.

I didn't think him ill tempered , he couldn't 'do' charm for tv , the attacks by the press which switched from labour to Cameron such as the criticism of not writing clearly because he only had sight in one eye , he refused to discuss his family or do camera poses with them for the press.

He didn't speak publicly of the death of Jennifer for ten years, Cameron emailed his party about the death of his son before the little chap was buried. He refused to speak to the Sun when that rag discovered little Frazier had cystic fibrosis, he asked it not be made public and was distressed when his request was ignored. He is that quite rare politician, doesn't do charm does honesty

The leader of Haringay was on the news last night, she resigned because of the bullying by Momentum activists who have the support of the Momentum NEC

Oh I will Wilma . My dad ( who is still a paid up member ) has warned me to “just sit and listen” . I think he’s taking the wrong daughter .

We are seeing a lot of bullying ( and accusations of bullying) in our town Anniebach the leader of the council v the MP v the local newspaper v momentum and everything in between . It’s a mess.

Gilly, she said the house building was agreed , Momentum members complained to the Momentum NEC and they stepped in and stopped the house building.

Seems any council with Momentum members who only have to contact the Momentum run NEC and they get what they want.

Sadiq Khan praised Ms Kober saying she deserved massive credit for turning around local childrens services after the death of babyP. She has been described as a dedicated public servant. The Corbynista group chooses not to comment !

A different viewpoint on Claire Kober’s leadership of Haringey Council. I don’t have enough in depth knowledge of what has been happening in Haringey to be able to comment on the rights and wrongs of this, and I suspect few others on this forum do either. But my gut tells me that selling off council assets should always be looked at carefully, particularly in those areas where land values are so incredibly high. Isn’t that what the NEC has agreed should happen?

The BBC Sunday Politics spent a decent amount of time on the Haringay scenario.

It also gave air time to the letter Labour council leaders in England and Wales have signed attacking the NEC over it's ' interference' in the Haringay Council debacle.

Obviously since Sunday the Haringay Council Leader has resigned as mentioned.

The Tories might be infighting but I wouldn't want to be a Labour Councillor or MP that Momentum doesn't like. How many have resigned already because of harassment by the so called ' kinder sort of politics ' brigade.

It's easy to find out what this has all been about .

Look up the Haringey Development Vehicle for a starters.

It's the redevelopment of estates like Broadwater Farm nightowl. These are not areas of incredibly high land value at all. Corbyn was a local councillor in Haringey 74-83, so it's interesting that he's getting involved in this again. Actually, I think housing in Haringey was the only leadership position he held before his election as leader of the LP.

What the HamHigh article points out, and which seems to have gained little attention in the mainstream media, is that the Lib Dems also strongly oppose the HDV. In relation to Labour, the article says "A secret local party vote saw 24 councillors vote to push on with the HDV even though they will not stand in May whilst more than 35 Labour candidates wrote to Kober to voice opposition."

Of course it is in those opposed to Corbyn within and outside the party who are eager to say that she is resigning because of bullying. If the Labour Party can be discredited, other parties and individuals are hoping to benefit so they're obviously going to jump on the bandwagon.

There is a great deal of disquiet about the selling off of publicly owned assets to private investors and developers. A Guardian article recently described the selling off in the 90's of MoD housing stock to a private company as "a disaster" and there are claims that the sell off has cost several billion pounds. www.theguardian.com/news/2017/apr/25/mod-privatise-military-housing-disaster-guy-hands I can't think of any privatisation that has been a success, except for investors and highly paid employees of the private companies.

This is what the leader of Haringey is saying. It must be looked into by the party and then she can put forward any evidence of this. Other people can then defend themselves. Encouraging trial by media is only helping those who are opposed to Corbyn, they are not helping the Labour Party.

Perhaps everything will be referred to the Disputes panel, now it's chaired by Christine Shawcroft instead of Ann Black it can be dealt with properly.

Bullying councillors and dictating what local authorities do is not helping the Labour Party! Don't blame the media for the actions of Momentum. It's not only the leader of Haringey, it's many councillors from many Labour-controlled local councils who are angry about what has happened.
