We can mock and laugh, and also feel sorry for some of the people whose comments in TV and newspaper interviews, and rants in streets or public transport- often showing very poor level of education and understanding - but they will be dangerous- and Farage is egging them on?!

jura2 Thu 18-Jan-18 19:04:54

You are a very angry person, aren't you. Hope you feel better soon. And no, I wasn't talking about middle-aged ladies in headscarves- at all.

Let's not forget that when Farage thought the Leavers were losing, he said "if it's 48:52 we won't accept that"

Day6 Thu 18-Jan-18 19:23:14

Jura, typical transference. Stop trying to wriggle out of it.

You wrote of people interviewed in the streets, speaking on TV and on public transport as being poorly educated and 'dangerous'. See your OP. These people you "mock" or "laugh at" or "feel sorry for" because they aren't educated enough.

durhamjen Thu 18-Jan-18 19:26:04

Are you saying that Farage wasn't the leader of the Brexit campaign?

jura2 Thu 18-Jan-18 19:27:36

Yes, I was talking about those who are poorly educated and dangerous.

jura2 Thu 18-Jan-18 19:30:12

Like this one:

and also about some of the pleasant enough ranters who said they wanted to vote Brexit to stop Muslims and Africans coming in- and so many more- showing they really did NOT understand the issues, and were mixing all types of immigration in the run up to the vote.

Day6
Once again, brilliant posts.

I don't think you realise how much your distain and sneering towards the 'ordinary' working class of this country comes through in this thread.
Everyday working folk abhor EDL, BNP etc as much as you do. If you truly believe that your right you don't understand the British at all.

jura2 Thu 18-Jan-18 19:34:48

Totally Petra- so my OP was not about the wroking folk who voted for Brexit- but about the EDL and the BNP, and other similar groups- who do ahve the potential for turning violent- and perhaps take a few more with them.

You choose to misread what I am saying.

durhamjen Thu 18-Jan-18 20:02:26

I am as worried as jura. I think I understand the British as much as you, petra.

jura2 Thu 18-Jan-18 20:33:26

The title of the thread made it perfectly clear who I was talking about.

Morgana Thu 18-Jan-18 20:48:33

Why do some people refuse to think about the possibility of a racist backlash post Brexit? This is not accusing anyone who voted for it, we all know that there were many reasons for people's voting decisions. 'Fail to plan = planning to fail'. We need some plan to make sure that racist violence does not continue to increase.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jan-18 21:10:56

Its one thing to think about it, surely an entirely different matter to predict what kind of uneducated half wits might instigate it. Because that is very much how it comes across.

lemongrove Thu 18-Jan-18 21:27:35

Exactly MissAdventure
I think this is really yet another tiresome old Brexit bashing thread, in the guise of ‘concern’ that mobs may roam the streets and anarchy prevail if we don’t leave the EU.We will shortly be leaving the EU, so why worry about it in the first place? The Government is firm in delivering it and actually so is Labour.

jura2 Thu 18-Jan-18 21:42:20

MissAdventure- are you really saying that the BNP and EDL would not be the prime candidates- having seen their antics so far.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jan-18 21:48:13

No, I'm not saying that, but it comes across as if you are tarring anyone who voted to leave with the same brush. Everyone would be absolutely outraged if we assumed every section of society could be judged on the actions of a few bad apples.

MaizieD Thu 18-Jan-18 22:33:03

I think Leave voters are just a teeny bit sensitive to the fact that they are, so to speak, in bed with racists...

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jan-18 22:34:16

I think racists are in a bed all of their own.

Morgana Thu 18-Jan-18 22:49:25

Unbelievable that some posters refuse to see the danger of racist attacks escalating further. Wake up!

MaizieD Thu 18-Jan-18 22:55:21

They're in the Brexit bed, MissAdventure whether you like it or not. And they're the ones people are worried about.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jan-18 22:59:36

Ah, it's clear now, but it wasn't before. It seemed as if anyone who voted for brexit was some kind of thug. I'm happy we're clear who exactly people are concerned about.

durhamjen Thu 18-Jan-18 22:59:47

Do you know any racists who didn't vote Brexit, Missadventure?

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jan-18 23:04:37

I dont know any racists, Jen. I tend not to mix with people like that.

durhamjen Thu 18-Jan-18 23:47:42

So how do you know racists are in a bed all of their own?
Do you agree that racists voted for Brexit?
I presume you do remember Farage standing in front of that poster.

durhamjen Thu 18-Jan-18 23:51:04

"A host of far-right groups are set to join Nigel Farage in a march on the Supreme Court.

Britain First, The British National Party (BNP) and English Defence League (EDL) are among the biggest planning to send delegates to protest the ruling last week that MPs must vote on triggering Article 50.

They will join Farage, Ukip’s interim leader, in the demonstration tipped to attract 100,000 people.

Farage called the rally after judges ruled Theresa May had no right to begin Britain’s exit from the European Union without first consulting Parliament.

He branded it a “deliberate, wilful attempt to frustrate this referendum” and even said one of the judges should not have been allowed to sit on the High Court panel. "

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jan-18 23:54:53

The only question I can answer yes to is the picture of Farage.
I never said I know anything about racists. I said it was my opinion (the phrase was "I think") that they're in a bed all their own, and I would imagine that doesn't need explaining, surely?
As for racists voting for brexit, I'm sure some did. I imagine some didn't bother, but I'm afraid I can't say for definite because I don't know anyone who is openly racist.
