Continuity of previous thread.

It is interesting to know that the Tories have chosen the environment as one of the focuses in order to try and tackle the young vote.

This morning I read that this failing government (shades of Trumpgrin is refusing to sign up to the EUs plan to tackle plastic waste.

A prime example f this government shooting itself in the foot on a number of levels.

News in the Telegraph that British officials are in secret talks to extend transition to 3 years will no doubt give Mogg apoplexy

Please, Conservative GN colleagues- can you really see any of the above pulling our country out of this mess we are in? Really?

I have many relatives who are true blue Conservatives, and they are pulling their hair out. One of them said she was considering voting Lib Dem - and never ever would I have believed she could ever say that. Her OH said he would abstain, for the first time in his life, if an election was called. Again- never ever.

So the intelligent world thinks that Williamson is playing fast and lose with the uks security.

Oh dear

durhamjen Sun 28-Jan-18 19:35:53

There's a Libdem councillor in Durham who has defected to Labour as he sees them as the only party to help the working people.

Both political parties are in deep disagreements with their own sides as regards to Brexit.
It would be very hard for either May or Corbyn ( had he been in power) to get all their party or even all their cabinet behind them and to agree a single view.IMHO they all need to put the country first, get on with leaving the EU with the best deal for the UK and forget all the hard brexit/soft brexit stuff.

POGS Sun 28-Jan-18 19:54:35

' Perhaps ' the Lib Dem Councillor also prefers Labour because Labour under Corbyn has ruled out a 2nd EU Referendum as opposed to his party calling for one.?

durhamjen Sun 28-Jan-18 20:01:43

Allegations against Williamson have been rejected by the MOD.
They would say that, wouldn't they.

if the economy tanks- no-one will be able to help the 'poor'

lemongrove Sun 28-Jan-18 20:03:34

I’m not so sure they would, actually.

lemongrove Sun 28-Jan-18 20:04:06

I understand that- but at the present moment, Brexit has to be on top of agenda. Again, if the economy tanks - there will be no money for school, social work, NHS, housing or anything else.

durhamjen Sun 28-Jan-18 22:35:14

Jura, I thought you were always saying we have a representative democracy where our representatives in parliament vote for us.
That is what Corbyn says, about there being a meaningful vote in parliament instead of a second referendum.
I think he knows that more MPs will vote to stay in the EU, whereas a second vote might be more risky.

durhamjen Sun 28-Jan-18 22:38:19

The government can print money to make sure the economy doesn't tank. This government does not wish to do so to help the NHS or schools or social work, and pretends to on housing.
The government printed lots to help the banks.

"Elections expert Sir John Curtice, who predicted last year’s shock election result, said the Conservatives could lose more than half of their London boroughs in the May elections, which are being fought mostly in Labour heartlands or Remain-voting areas like the capital.

Cabinet ministers will meet on Tuesday to discuss how to avoid a poor showing at the polls, The Independent understands, in a sign of mounting fears that a disastrous set of results could cost Ms May her job."

I bet May wishes she hadn't just given him a knighthood.

What do you think we are going to wake up to tomorrow, another election to save her authority, or a Tory leadership election?

jura2 Mon 29-Jan-18 07:46:15

DJ, yes I agree : 'Jura, I thought you were always saying we have a representative democracy where our representatives in parliament vote for us.
That is what Corbyn says, about there being a meaningful vote in parliament instead of a second referendum.
I think he knows that more MPs will vote to stay in the EU, whereas a second vote might be more risky.'

I agree.

But I am so concerned because we know he has always been anti EU, and he has not changed his mind- or at least never expressed this.

Tories back to there old selves.

Sleaze!

Cash for questions.

Implicated?

Lilley
Mitchell
Lansley

Who was paying them?

A Chinese company.

Williamson is still making the headlines over his relationship with a junior colleague in a company which he had later left under a cloud.

His efforts to draw a veil over this sex scandal by issuing claims about the threat from Russia is being looked at with raised eyebrows by the security people as well as other civil servants.

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 09:22:40

Their!

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 09:28:16

May under count down with a potential vote of no confidence being threatened.

“Clarify your Brexit stance” scream the brextremists who see recent announcements as a softening.

Just imagine in the middle of the most difficult, some would say impossible negotiations Britain has ever undertaken the Tories decide to throw their energies into a leadership contest?

Their mantra should be

Tories first! Tories first sod the country.

MaizieD Mon 29-Jan-18 10:48:09

Just as a matter of interest. Who said this, when and where?

The people of Britain now face an historic choice on 23 June on whether to remain part of the European Union or to leave. We welcome the fact that it is now in the hands of the people of this country to decide that issue. The Labour party and the trade union movement are overwhelmingly for staying in because we believe that the European Union has brought investment, jobs and protection for workers, consumers and the environment, and we are convinced that a vote to remain is in the best interests of the people.

MaizieD Mon 29-Jan-18 10:51:06

Perhaps I should as 'why'? as well...

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 11:36:57

Um? May? Or Corbyn?
