Continuity of previous thread.

It is interesting to know that the Tories have chosen the environment as one of the focuses in order to try and tackle the young vote.

This morning I read that this failing government (shades of Trumpgrin is refusing to sign up to the EUs plan to tackle plastic waste.

A prime example f this government shooting itself in the foot on a number of levels.

I bet the Tories didn't expect this, a Tory council running out of money.
I bet they find that moneytree again, but they wouldn't if it was a Labour council.

Watching the Kuensburg interview, the perfectly normal questions one would ask, and Maybots inability to answer anything, I am now beginning to understand how the tiny minority of headbangers are getting such a handle on things. They have learned to go in hard and Maybot caves in.

whitewave Sat 03-Feb-18 08:11:46

Anyone see Mays media advisor prod Kuensburg in the back to wind up the interview?

durhamjen Sat 03-Feb-18 10:05:01

I wondered what that was, whitewave. I thought it was someone wanting to butt in and being gently guided away.
Another week, and Laura will be so fed up she will turn round and bop him/her one.

At least we got words from the horse's mouth, instead of a No. 10 spokesperson.

lemongrove Sat 03-Feb-18 10:11:19

Suddenly.....so many fans of Laura Kuensburg on here!
Not long ago there were comments to the effect that she was a right wing stooge?
I have always thought that she is even handed when it comes to politicians and treats them all in the same way ie. as if they are vastly inferior to her own great intellect and thinks the public are more interested in her comments than either the PM or Leader Of The Opposition etc.

I wondered who she was, on Question Time. She needs to stand for parliament.

durhamjen Sat 03-Feb-18 11:54:36

This is going to be very interesting.

McMafia is real.
Do you think there will be a big rush of mansions on the market?
I presume it's British ones as well, those who hide their money in tax havens. She can't just be seen to be going after Russian oligarchs.

Yes I was reading that a couple of days ago. It seems that there is no body you can trust now.

Dirty money has always been a major issue, but I think really it is out of control.

It would have helped if in the past government’s were willing to put in sufficient resources to allow their civil servants and police to track and stop dirty money, but resources have always been a major issue.
To my mind for whatever reason it didn’t suit governments to do so.

durhamjen Sat 03-Feb-18 12:17:14

This present government has cut the number of staff working in HMRC, so obviously not bothered.

Someone just gave me a lovely vision of Maybot.

Weeble Maybot. Wobbly weeble who keeps being knocked down but boings back up again.

On Monday Grayling will gift Branson a rail contract for the West Coast.

No tendering has taken place whatsoever.

Mogg has bare faced lied over the claim that the treasury is doctoring the figures put out in the recent impact assessment. He is willing to destroy trust in our civil service just to get what he wants.

Matthew Parris's article.

varian Sat 03-Feb-18 14:25:56

I usually agree with your posts, whitewave but please stop mentioning Jacob Rees Mogg. He gets far too much publicity, especially on the BBC, where in the last year he has taken over from the equally repulsive Nigel Farage as the BBC's favourite politician.

Kuensberg - Künsberg even.

Yes, she has gone up in my estimation recently as she has been asking very hard and direct questions- and repeated, quite strongly, if interviewee deflects and refuses to answer- making it very clear that that is the case ...

durhamjen Sun 04-Feb-18 00:25:21

Any thoughts about whether she should go over the cliff?

grin

Sorry varian but his Weimar type messsages have to called out for what they are. I’ll find another code name for himgrin

Keir Starmer

First the judges are seen as “enemies of the people” then the civil service is seen as “traitors”

This hard right with fascist tendencies has to be stopped.

The Fail was supportive of this sort of politictics pre£war, it is simply reverting back to type with politicians who will support it.

Primrose65 Sun 04-Feb-18 12:58:19

You're right ww. Balaclavas and violence have no place in politics. Luckily those papers didn't incite any violent behaviour - perhaps the demographic of their readership isn't prone to lashing out and throwing punches.
You do need to tailor the message to the audience in politics. A lesson for everyone, I think.

Astounding the BBC totally ignored the 10s of thousands who marched for the NHS this weekend in the bitter cold.

German television had it as their third item

MaizieD Sun 04-Feb-18 13:07:11

A bit puzzled as to which of ww's posts you are responding to, Primrose. Can you clarify?

MaizieD Sun 04-Feb-18 13:13:49

ww. There's a bit about the 'rally' on the BBC website if you search hard enough

It's in the RH side bar on the Politics page, entitled "Nursing profession being killed" So pretty obvious not that that links to the London demo, isn't it? [eye roll ]

Thanks for that maize

durhamjen Sun 04-Feb-18 14:07:47

Whitewave, it was on the BBC news channel last night. I didn't see it on the BBC that most people watch, but there were only a few thousand people there, and more thousands in other parts of the country. Not enough for proper BBC news.

mostlyharmless Sun 04-Feb-18 14:18:06

I see the Eurosceptic Tory MPs are pushing to overthrow May and install their "Brexit Dream Team" (Boris, Gove and JRM).
More like my idea of a Nightmare team.
