I expect this is going to divide opinion, but what's your take on the Men Only charity event that's all over the news. However, for those not familiar, a bevy of young women, many of them students, were recruited through an agency for this event, they had to be slim and good looking they were told to wear sexy shoes and black underwear to go under the very skimpy dresses provided. They also had to sign a five page disclaimer, which they didn't get to read and weren't given a copy of. A couple of female undercover FT journalists were also amoung these young women and testified to appalling behaviour by SOME of the male guests. To give a flavour of the offers guests were asked to bid for "Plastic surgery to spice up the Mrs" hmm Jess Phillips gave a very good speech in Parliament imo saying these young women who were expected to act as hostesses "were merely bait" Personally I find it sickening that the guise of charity is used as a way to negate the bad behaviour in this sort of evening. I believe some of the high profile charities such as GOSH have told the now defunct Presidents' Club, where to stick their money.

OP says it was under cover female journalists

MissAdventure Wed 31-Jan-18 21:56:36

By its very nature the job is quite exploitative, I think. Maybe some women thought they would exploit Randy old men who should know better, and some men thought they would exploit silly, pretty women? Either way, it doesn't excuse the mens behaviour, although one hostess who has worked at this event before said she had never known it to be as raucous (my word, not hers) as this years event.

Anniebach Wed 31-Jan-18 22:00:53

Thank you Bridgeit, I missed that.

So more than one yet no photographs supporting the allegations, suppose it comes down to - does one believe everything one newspaper claims

Bridgeit Wed 31-Jan-18 22:06:59

Well I’m guessing that if money has been returned, then it must be fairly well substantiated.

Anniebach Wed 31-Jan-18 22:13:01

Would they keep the money with so many believing the report was true? Actors are losing jobs just because of allegations.

Bridgeit Wed 31-Jan-18 22:17:34

Well I haven’t heard/read one report off any denials from those who attended,so I guess that speaks volumes.

Bridgeit Wed 31-Jan-18 22:22:02

Apparently the charities regulator is looking into all accusations.

Anniebach Wed 31-Jan-18 22:25:38

That is good to learn Bridgeit, thank you

Bridgeit Wed 31-Jan-18 22:25:58

Would it not be a bit soon for actors to loose jobs, especially as allegedly it was not all men who were involved.

Bridgeit Wed 31-Jan-18 22:26:38

?Annibach

Anniebach Wed 31-Jan-18 22:28:37

I didn't mean actors who may have been at that event, actors who have been accused but no investigations made

Bridgeit Wed 31-Jan-18 22:31:49

I guess that will be the job of the investigator & what ever visual evidence is available, the visual evidence will be the most telling I would think

MaizieD Wed 31-Jan-18 22:32:06

I don’t actually know Annibach,I’m just going by what I have read.

Have you read the original article by the Financial Times journalist who went undercover?

MaizieD Wed 31-Jan-18 22:34:57

no photographs supporting the allegations,

How could there be any photos? The girls had their phones taken from them (and there was certainly nowhere in their 'uniforms' where they could hide one)

Bridgeit Wed 31-Jan-18 22:44:03

There is a video clip on ITV available to see on line

Bridgeit Wed 31-Jan-18 22:44:57

2 of the ladies were working under cover secretly filming allegedly

durhamjen Wed 31-Jan-18 23:57:26

Lots of the men at this dinner would also have been at a similar event at the Tory party conference every year.
They didn't behave like that at the conferences, so what gave them the right to behave like that at this fund-raising event?

Anniebach Thu 01-Feb-18 08:12:20

The reporters could have taken photographs , who filmed the video we have seen ?

Discussion between a girl who worked as a walk on girl at formula 1 events and a feminist over the girl having now lost a well, paid job and was out of work

The feminist told her to get an education

All heart are these feminists,

suzied Thu 01-Feb-18 08:17:06

Working for a couple of days at a formula one or similar event is not a profession, it’s casual work, maybe well paid, but it’s not a year round “job” that these poor women are being denied. Maybe they’ll employ men and women in equal numbers to hold up the odd placard if it’s essential.

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 08:23:33

I stand by my points eloethan . The woman’s right to earn money however she likes.
But let’s remember that this sort of demeaning “Work” is surely the opposite to being liberated. They were effectively working as teasers to get the men to shell out more money .

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 08:27:08

There are some quite famous and rich women who started their modelling careers as being brolly dollies for formula 1 .

Oldwoman70 Thu 01-Feb-18 08:38:39

The treatment some of these women experienced is totally out of order, however, can we not tar all the men there with the same brush or accuse them of lying if they say they saw nothing untoward. I can be in a room with 50 people and not see or know what is happening the other side of that room.

Whilst we are talking about groping, I wonder whether this is an accusation which can be made against Fern Britton who is pictured today grabbing Alastair Stewart, almost knocking him off his feet and kissing him.

Anniebach Thu 01-Feb-18 08:40:19

The women choose to do the work, same as page 3 girls, glamour models, they are victims of other women

all this pious ranting as led to just two or three men losing their jobs , charites losing a lot if money and women losing their jobs. And a newspaper selling more copies.

Were Bunnies Girls naive? When Christine Keeler died a forceful voice on this thread claimed Keeler was naive !

Nightclub hostess, mistress of Rachman was naive .

Where is equality in all this, some women disapprove of work chosen by other women and jobs are lost, all in the pretence of saving these women who haven't asked to be saved

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 08:46:49

Oh dear me no Oldwoman women surely don’t grope men? Do they ?

I really can’t see why they have felt the need to stop the brolly dollies in formula 1 .
This is all getting crazy .

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 08:50:49

My late husbands first job was in a large office ( where we met) he was only one of maybe a dozen men ( managers of course) working with 100’s of women of all ages. They nipped his bum, they made lewd comments, grabbed him and god knows what else . Luckily he had a fantastic sense of humour and perfected the “ put down” but anyone a bit shyer would have been thoroughly miserable.
