Poverty of ideas
Poverty of economy

It seems that NI is as useless said to stay in the Single Market according to EU draft.

Expect a major row from the headbangers and denial from Number 10

Round and around we go.

whitewave Fri 02-Mar-18 14:12:31

Now we are into automation oh dear oh dear

whitewave Fri 02-Mar-18 14:13:29

This is simply not going to happen

durhamjen Fri 02-Mar-18 14:13:48

Did you know we had the highest environmental standards?

whitewave Fri 02-Mar-18 14:17:03

Now we are sure of the clear blue line between Labour and Tories.

Labour being entirely realistic over CU the Tories simply haven’t moved an inch and are repeating exactly what has already been turned down by the EU

whitewave Fri 02-Mar-18 14:23:20

Well that’s that, as expected absolutely no further forward. She was just talking to her party at war

mostlyharmless Fri 02-Mar-18 14:34:23

Well she’s “made it very clear” that it’s very complicated and that nobody is going to get what they want.
A heartfelt speech for us to Remain!

“Do you think Brexit is all worth it?” A German journalist asks!

whitewave Fri 02-Mar-18 14:37:47

So May has accepted at long last that we will certainly be poorer.

Who voted for that?

Anna Soubry indicated that many Brexiters (not the hard liners) are not prepared for a hard Brexit

varian Fri 02-Mar-18 16:57:51

If there had been the choice of:-hard brexit/ soft brexit/ no brexit who do you think would have won?

Morgana Fri 02-Mar-18 17:04:15

Depends on how it was presented Varian! How would those 'sovereignty' seekers have voted?! What would the Daily Mail et al. have said?
We could perhaps vote for John Major. Loved the way he put that awful Laura K. in her place when she interviewed him.

What Sinn Fein think of Brexit. It is time their voices were heard

The absolute truth of the matter is that there is no solution that the loons will tolerate for NI border.

Everything else is just flim flam.

Is Sinn Fein the party which gets candidates elected and then refuses to let them take their seats in the HoC?.

If they really cared about the people of NI they would get down to Westminster pronto and do what they know is right for the people who voted for them.

It could make a big difference and they will lose credibility if they shy away from their responsibilities at a time when they could make a real difference.

whitewave Fri 02-Mar-18 17:23:24

varian yes. They can’t let their constituents down as most of NI voted remain. The DUP represents only a small minority and has influence in Westminster far beyond what is right.

whitewave Fri 02-Mar-18 18:03:25

I think that many of the older folk who voted Brexit are under the illusion that being of pensionable age the inevitable downturn which May admitted will happen today will not touch them.

They couldn’t be more wrong.

Luckylegs9 Fri 02-Mar-18 19:08:12

Every step of the way, the people that lost the Brexit vote, have used any delaying tactic they can, not thinking of democracy and that we should be joining together as a country. Europe is getting increasingly desperate to continue making the whole process as difficult as possible, they really don't want us to leave do they? This makes me feel even more sure that the decision I made was absolutely right, eventually, despite trying for the contrary, it will happen.

varian Fri 02-Mar-18 19:12:31

Who was it who said "It is much easier to fool people than to get them to admit they have been fooled."?

GracesGranMK2 Fri 02-Mar-18 19:54:13

I thought it was May who did all the delaying. So, on a positive note LG are you happy with what May is proposing?

GracesGranMK2 Fri 02-Mar-18 19:56:16

Varian I would give you a grin but it's far to close to the mark to do that.

I have just had a little cheerful moment and fast forwarded through the whole of an interview with 'Govey'. Transient feeling but a good one.

Tegan2 Fri 02-Mar-18 19:58:26

Did I hear someone on the news tonight admitting that we would probably be worse off for at least 15 years? I thought after ten years everything was going to be wonderful?

Tegan2 Fri 02-Mar-18 19:59:09

...didn't May waste a lot of time [and money] having an election...?

This is interesting. An IPPR (Institute of Public Policy Research) briefing on attitudes to Brexit.

In this, the first of two briefing papers they report on the results of their polling about EU regulations.

We surveyed the public on two sets of questions. First, we asked respondents whether they wanted to retain, tighten, loosen, or remove a range of EU rules, relating to key areas of consumer, financial, employment and environmental policy.

For the first part of the survey, we focused on six examples of EU standards and and regulations that underpin the European economic and social model

Their findings:

Finding 1: There is minimal public support for deregulation

Finding 2: There is support for standards among both Remainers and Leavers

Finding 3: In some areas, the public strongly supports stricter standards

The questions asked are given as an annexe to this report

I thought we were always being told that one of the key reasons for voting Leave was to free us from the burden of unwanted EU regulations. It actually seems that we really quite like them...
