Wally I always got the impression that Paxo would be voting to leave.
I think he is full of angst as he looks back at his privileged life and sees younger generations struggling, unlike his early years.
He doesn't seem to realise that not all over 65s were afforded the privileges that his family were able to provide for him and that some are still struggling to this day.

If one has always lived in a gilded cage of intellectual and financial superiority it may be difficult to realise that there are others of the same generation who are living a hand to mouth existence.

Hoovering up the Eastern European countries, as the EU have done and would still do, obviously meant, that being poor countries they could settle anywhere with or without a job to go to.This has put enormous pressure on a few countries, especially the UK.If it had gone on and on who knows how that would affect the UK.
That is only one aspect of us staying in the EU btw.One that we can easily identify, with the free movement of labour.
Other nations are uneasy about EU diktats and are already disregarding them in some cases.

Actually, it would be speculation on either side, as if we had Remained in the EU who knows how things would have worked out both for the EU as a body or for us as a nation.

Many posters on this thread have made it about Brexit . Paxman was not making his comment solely about Brexit.

Paxman mentions our homes gaining in value , we are holding politicians to ransom, we are spoilt children who should not take our pension or associated benefits such as winter fuel allowance etc. We never found difficulty obtaining work, we had cheap property.

We can agree or disagree with his view but it is a stupid generalisation as to how many have managed their lives and it is another show of a total lack of understanding how some people have most certainly not ' had it easy ' by somebody who by their own words state they have had an easy, cushy life.

I've known it all along, POGS. It's a shame Wally only accuses the remainers of speculation. Lemon does that, too.

Remainers do not need to speculate as much as Brexiteers. We knew what it was like to be in the EU.
Brexiteers are just guessing about what it will be like to be outside the biggest trading block in the world.

Apologies if this has been said before as haven't read the whole thread [I know I should; I usually do] but, from what I've heard, Paxman is a staunch Tory but is totally opposed to brexit. I guess his comment was a way of getting back at the people he felt were responsible for the referendum result. But I could be wrong....

But we do know how much the economy and our lives have improved since we joined the EU POGS.

Every single criticism I have heard of the EU was actually nothing to do with them - except the misplaced emotions. The problems have been caused by our governments - no one else.

Just as remainers got it very wrong before the vote they are making wild speculations about what will happen after we leave. To every reason against there is an equal and opposite reason for.
