Just watching News At Ten, what a situation for the hungry (on the point of starvation)families there, it’s shocking.
A Socialist Hell.

Anniebach Thu 22-Feb-18 08:17:43

And Corbyn's dream for us

gillybob Thu 22-Feb-18 08:18:39

And he still can’t bring himself to condemn the government .

Anniebach Thu 22-Feb-18 08:22:08

For him it's how a country should be run, this is what he and Lansman see as Utopia

lemongrove Thu 22-Feb-18 09:57:14

I could hardly watch the report, those Mothers and children!

lemongrove Thu 22-Feb-18 13:49:21

Surprised that posters are so quiet about this thread, given all the news about it.hmm

gillybob Thu 22-Feb-18 13:57:21

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-latin-america-43146806/how-venezuelans-stave-off-hunger-amidst-a-food-crisis

I challenge anyone to watch this heartbreaking BBC news report and not be very upset indeed.

The people blame government mismanagement. Inflation is set to reach 13,000% Is this the same government that JC refuses to condemn?

M0nica Thu 22-Feb-18 15:34:38

Why are posters quiet about this thread? Because they would have to face reality rather than building castles in the sky and thinking they were real.

I am curious. Can anyone name a single Socialist/ Communist state that has been a long term success? The best I can think of is Cuba, but this is a state with a lot of censorship still and and a lot of poverty. it has only survived because at first it had massive Soviet aid and when that was withdrawn began playing footsie with the west.

In answer to your question MOnica, No! Watching Venezuela last night I felt extreme anger that such an oil rich country could be in such a dire economic state verging on a catastrophe! Starving children, empty super markets? ! How on earth has this happened? Why is it being allowed to continue? If that is left wing politics then you can keep it. Is this what Corbyn and Macdonell want for us? If so, the thought of them in power is more than frightening!

JenniferEccles Thu 22-Feb-18 17:06:44

I am hoping that this latest news item about Venezuela will open the eyes of those (can there still be anyone though?) who persist in defending the ghastly Corbyn.

M0nica Thu 22-Feb-18 17:39:24

I emphatically not a Conservative supporter, but one of the main reasons we are in a position where it is conceivable that a man like Jeremy Corbyn could become Prime Minister is that for once in a lifetime the Conservative Communications Department has for the last several years, been monumentally incompetent.

Jeremy Corbyn has history of cosying up to terrorist organisations, and countries of doubtful democracy (to put it carefully) including his mindless support for the devastation of the economy of Venezuela and the suffering of its people - and he tries to pass himself off as a compassionate man. He makes me sick.

Why on earth is this not constantly being brought to public attention? a Labour government I can live with, a Labour party led by Corbyn that will make us the Venezuela of Europe fills me with fear, not for myself, but for my children and grandchildren.

Anniebach Thu 22-Feb-18 17:55:52

No. Comment in defence of Corbyn and his praise for Venezuela as a perfect example of what he wants for this country

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Feb-18 18:14:52

Perhaps MOnica if the MSM were more balanced, there could be a better debate and a more informed public about political issues. Instead a simplistic political dichotomy is presented which we see on GN as elsewhere with both the left and right depicted in cartoonish format. As a left of centre person, and never a Corbyn supporter, I get weary of the left=Corbynista position put forward by some of the right of centre on here and the equally simplistic views put forward by some of the left of centre. I am completely politically homeless. I can not vote Conservative but will not support Labour whilst they are in competition with the Tories to destroy women’s rights. Going back to Venezuela - it’s an utter tragedy when you think how well it was doing and its enormous oil reserves and what it could have done. Like many other S and C American countries it has a long history of being conquered by Europeans and then being run by military dictatorships of one kind or another. There’s no history of democracy of any substance. And of course coups organised by the States eg Chile.

M0nica Thu 22-Feb-18 19:29:50

maryeliza54 when have you ever read a right of centre opinion on GN? I haven't, at least not recently (last 3 years).

Political discussion is monopolised by the left and anyone putting any other view is hounded out. Fortunately, having never in my voting life voted for either of the two main parties, I do manage to dip in now and again and like a very small dog, nip their ankles. I never stay long, too boring.

Sorry, I am making this thread political, the people of Venezuela deserve better than that. There were pictures in the paper today of a kidney transplant recipient, slowly dying because she cannot get her anti-rejection drugs.

Meanwhile Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela has been accused, with evidence, of accepting tens of millions of dollars in bribes and creaming off oil revenues to ensure that he, his family and other government and army senior officials are do not have to do without anything or feel any hardship - and of course when the whole thing finally collapses, slip away to a nice neutral country (Syria, he has funded Assad or Russia) to live a pleasant life enjoying his ill gotten gains.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 22-Feb-18 19:34:08

Not about the topic but I certainly agree with you re MSM Maryeliza and this is an example of something splashed all over a front page with a small apology later. We are not only not getting a balance we are getting lies, obfuscation and just a lack of all round reporting. MSM is more propaganda than news.

nigglynellie Thu 22-Feb-18 19:36:55

The silence of our left wing posters on this, subject is deafening!!

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Feb-18 19:40:01

MOnica - this post was political from the word go- look at the OP. As for right of centre posts, I really can’t believe you have said that - what about the pro UKIP ones for starters and do you really think all the anti Corbyn posts are from disgruntled left wingers?

Jalima1108 Thu 22-Feb-18 19:44:36

Maduro certainly is not suffering from a lack of food himself, judging by the picture in this link:

www.news.com.au/finance/economy/world-economy/we-loot-or-we-die-of-hunger-starving-venezuelans-steal-kill-to-eat/news-story/30e1122ebd174c9b8f5b971f0801f2d5

I do apologise for giving a link from a Murdoch publication.

nigglynellie Thu 22-Feb-18 19:45:08

What's your opinion about Venezuela?!

Jalima1108 Thu 22-Feb-18 19:46:02

I'm rather confused about the link to the Sun as it was nothing to do with Venezuela, was that the wrong link?

nigglynellie Thu 22-Feb-18 19:46:13

maryeliza.

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Feb-18 19:53:18

Read my post nn

M0nica Thu 22-Feb-18 20:07:14

Nothing political about the OP, just a statement of fact. Venezuela's current dire situation is the result of government mismanagement. The government is a socialist government.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 22-Feb-18 20:37:29

I know I have difficulty getting my thoughts down in writting Jalima but what don't you understand about "Not about the topic but I certainly agree with you re MSM Maryeliza"

GracesGranMK2 Thu 22-Feb-18 20:38:46

exactly. of course writing not writting.
