A thread for all Corbyn lovers & haters

Anniebach Mon 26-Mar-18 21:10:46

Sorry but I find it difficult to believe three intelligent posters
Really believe the - anti semetism doesn't exist in the Labour Party , perhaps just a wind up or any reason to keep posting will do.

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 21:08:40

What about the Tories and their anti-semitism, lemon?
Does that not bother you?
You should be bothered if you are bothered about it in the Labour party. Or do you think it's okay if it's just in the Tory party?

lemongrove Mon 26-Mar-18 21:04:05

It’s no good expecting sensible answers Chewbacca as they haven’t got any to give, just the same old regurgitation of denials, links and the ‘what about the Tories’...whataboutery indeed !

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 20:47:10

Even more pointless, then. Why are you on the thread?

Chewbacca Mon 26-Mar-18 20:46:08

Take your pick durham, I couldn't care less.

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 20:45:58

The unitetheunion link is about racism, GracesGran, not just anti-semitism, although there's enough of that in it.
6 pages of racist incidents in the Tory party and hardly any action taken.

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 20:43:20

If I ask why does Mann hate Corbyn so much after you introduce a whole article by John Mann, of course it's not rhetorical!
That's just a pathetic response.
Why ask me for examples of Tory racism/antisemitism and then say you are not going to look at them?
Was that rhetorical or just a plain stupid statement?

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 20:38:32

In August 2014 UCL Conservative Society was under scrutiny for a series of anti-semitic,
Islamophobic and racist remarks, fostering a culture of discrimination and bullying, and creating a
“toxic” environment. One comment included, “Jews own everything, we all know it’s true. I wish I
was Jewish, but my nose isn’t long enough”.
26
In October 2014 after an investigation by UCL Union, the Conservative Society was ordered to
apologise
27
. There is no evidence that the Conservative Party investigated the incidents.

Chewbacca Mon 26-Mar-18 20:38:29

Oh I'm sorry durham, I wasn't aware that I'd put words in your mouth; I thought that I'd just given a straight answer to a straight question. I hadn't realised that your question was rhetorical. I almost thought that you and I were having a civil conversation there, apologies for my mistake.
I don't want to look at your link. As you were.....

GracesGranMK2 Mon 26-Mar-18 20:34:48

Why are we just hearing about anti-Semitism. On the internet, daily, there are the most vile racist remarks. Suddenly it's only about one group. That is important but it seems to me the point is being missed. This is not about one man or one form of racism - well it shouldn't be. The only way this can be controlled is if the same laws which affect the published word affect the internet. Wouldn't everyone do better to work on that?

There are Jews that have felt hurt by what has been said but online many of other races are attacked, women are attacked, people are attacked for their politics. Surely we need to be looking at all these areas and why people feel they can and actually can, get away with it.

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 20:33:17

I didn't say that, Chewbacca. I said, "Why does Mann hate Corbyn so much?"

You really should read more carefully and not put words in my mouth.

I really don't know much about the Tories durham, not being a fan of May either. I'm aware that antisemitism seems to have haunted Labour ever since Corbyn took the helm but haven't heard much about the Tories being antisemitic. Do you have any information to share?.

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 20:30:08

So what has May done about it in the Tory party, or are they allowed to carry on being antisemitic?

Chewbacca Mon 26-Mar-18 20:29:35

Why do so many hate Corbyn so much? That's like asking how long is a piece of string.

Chewbacca Mon 26-Mar-18 20:28:44

I have been listening durham, and, like so many others, I remain unconvinced that he is truly committed to eradicating antisemitism within both his own party, and nationally. But perhaps with such a groundswell of outrage from his own cabinet ministers, he may yet actually get down from one of the many fences that he perches on, and robustly condemn it. If he isn't seen to be proactively tackling this, he may well lose the margin that he's worked so hard gain. But hey, I'm no politician and it's only my opinion.

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 20:23:51

EDM 917 is about antisemitism on the internet, promoted by John Mann and signed by Corbyn.
Why does Mann seem to hate Corbyn so much?

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 20:21:17

He has been. Haven't you been listening?
He still can't do anything without names.

Chewbacca Mon 26-Mar-18 20:20:00

Perhaps being more vociferous in his condemnation would be a start.

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 20:06:33

What does everyone expect Corbyn to do if he doesn't know any names?

GracesGranMK2 Mon 26-Mar-18 19:54:21

That's okay then. But if that is true then the problem is with the social media and we need to make the rules of published comment apply there too.

It appears that Mann has chosen to use the media rather than the rule of law to deal with it.

But he actually says:
He pointed out that most of the statements people make are not actionable. *The death threat I received will be*

durhamjen Mon 26-Mar-18 19:35:28

Nowhere near me, Chewbacca.
If you contact MPs they always say they will only reply to those in their constituency.
Anyway, I am sure he would tell us if he had. In all that long article you quoted, I didn't see him say he had contacted the police.
He said he called them out. The police can trace twitter accounts.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 26-Mar-18 19:33:15

So there is anti-Semitism in the country and stupid people who do not really know what they are saying. I think we all knew the yobs get everywhere. Let the police follow it up and deal with it. Isn't that their job? Just as they have used social media - rather than democracy - to get their rather twisted message over it appears that Mann has chosen to use the media rather than the rule of law to deal with it. That means we cannot know if they are Labour Party members and, unless he does deal with this in the right way, the Labour Party, should it turn out that they are members, cannot do anything either.
