A continuation of Momentum/Intertia/Magnetism.

Elastic? Plastic? Or at breaking point?

A thread for Corbyn lovers & haters

I’m not sure that is correct primrose we know that the unrepresentative Board of Jewish Deputies overtly support the Tory party.

Arkush their chairman, was one of the first to support and congratulate Trump and Actively supports Netanyahu.
The Board has received severe criticism for its stance from many Jewish groups and certainly does not represent the majority of Jews.

Grandad1943 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:55:33

The above groups are very good friends of Jacob Rees-Mogg

Grandad1943 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:54:24

Yes and the Conservative Bow Group is all elected and look at the views they put forward and the right wing extremist factions they invite to their functions.

Grandad1943 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:50:44

I see the Daily Mail all over their front page today "slag off" totally the Jewish group that Corbyn had the social evening with.

An then that rag has the nerve to call Jeremy Corbyn anti-semitic

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:50:20

I have just been having a look to see who they are and they would seem to be a fair representative of the Jewish community, democratically elected.

However, if Corbyn prefers to meet with a fringe group with views more in keeping with his own, then that is up to him.

Primrose65 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:47:21

Well, it does seem to represent a fair number of them Grandad.

"The Board of Deputies is the only democratically elected, cross-communal, representative body in the Jewish community. It comprises nearly 300 deputies directly elected by synagogues and communal organisations, from youth movements, to social welfare charities and regional councils."

From their website.

Grandad1943 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:43:15

The Representative from the British Board of Deputies seemed to believe that they and only they represent the Jewish community in Britain and nobody has any views different to them.

Mind you he never stopped talking long enough for anyone to get in any different views (LOL)

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:41:34

Well, I've heard of them, of course, but not to the extent of knowing who they all are or studied them in any great depth.

Primrose65 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:37:47

So you don't expect Corbyn to be able to socialise with anyone who doesn't agree with his political views at a religious event Grandad?

Grandad1943 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:34:41

Very much so Whitewave. I would not expect Jeremy Corbyn to go to a social function with the Conservative Bow Group, so why should anyone expect him to attend a social function with any right wing group.

After all, if it is a social event convivial conversation is required. All agree???

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:33:14

Corresponding to the General Synod?

whitewave Wed 04-Apr-18 14:32:51

Good heavens jalima!!

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:29:49

Is that the Board of Deputies?

Who exactly are they

ok I will google.

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:28:53

they
Here's that they again

Who are they?

whitewave Wed 04-Apr-18 14:27:00

The problem is grandad they want a closed meeting and to control the agenda.

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:25:11

I think it's safe to open Day6 grin
and it has a 'padlock' and 'secure' too.

Grandad1943 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:23:49

Having seen a representative of the British Board of deputies interviewed on Sky News last night, it very quickly became obvious just how right wing they are.

I would dare to suggest that they are so far up Theriesa Mays backside her Adams Apple could well be one of their heads.

So, why would Jeremy Corbyn wish to meet them, it would not make for much of a social evening as he had with the group from his constituency.

yggdrasil Wed 04-Apr-18 14:06:45

It's from Private Eye. Which can offend some people, after all, that's what it tries to do

Day6 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:04:35

Why are you posting offensive stuff whitewave? I haven't opened your link but you've warned it's likely to offend.

Nice. hmm

Day6 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:02:53

I think he's guilty of playing politics with a community. But it's certainly a good way to distract from his own behaviour - make the story about Jewish factions and different groups, not about Corbyn, his facebook groups, his social media posts and his behaviour

Spot on Primrose. I thought the same. He is busy back-pedalling and creating smoke screens in order to bury his part in the Labour fiasco. Corbyn fools no one.

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:01:36

or a virus?

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:01:24

ok

whitewave Wed 04-Apr-18 13:58:53

Don’t open if you don’t want to be offended

Oh dear.

Primrose65 Wed 04-Apr-18 13:15:44

Corbyn only seems to engage with Jewish groups which attack Jews who criticise his leadership, such as Jewish Voice for Labour and Jewdas. (Jewdas was set up by someone who's now on the JVL committee, so there's overlap there) He has real problems talking to Jewish organisations which criticise him. All the large Jewish donors to the LP have now left, I believe.

I think he's guilty of playing politics with a community. But it's certainly a good way to distract from his own behaviour - make the story about Jewish factions and different groups, not about Corbyn, his facebook groups, his social media posts and his behaviour.
