Out of touch with what ordinary Scots feel about the Donald?

" . . the heads of British conservative think tanks the Bow Group, Bruges Group, Parliament Street and the Freedom Association, as well as the chairman of Republicans Overseas Scotland and a contributor to ThinkScotland." wrote to Donald Trump to tell him that "the political and media establishment in London was "far out of touch" with the feelings of ordinary people outside the capital, many of whom they said "strongly support" his leadership." and urge him to meet the Queen in Scotland instead - "Your ancestral homeland of Scotland represents a powerful bond between you and Britain, and given the nature of the climate in London, it is a superior destination."

"Scotland and the North of England also offer a variety of locations where you would be able to speak directly to ordinary British people and witness the true level of support that exists for you and the special relationship between the US and the UK."

Do they have any notion of how Trump is rated by the Scots, who have seen him in action? What makes them imagine that the level of support north of the border is any higher than in London? Or do they not give a damn, frankly my dear, so long as they can deflect him to visit some other part of the UK?

Baggs It may or may not but a reputable news organisation would explain who it was rather than just give their conclusions as fact.

Baggs Sat 28-Apr-18 16:23:29

Macron seemed to cope allright though.

MagicWriter2016 Sat 28-Apr-18 16:19:50

I hate it when any political party say they 'speak for all of the people of Scotland', and that includes our FM Nicola Sturgeon. Until they come and ask me, then they are not speaking for me! Donald Trump is a buffoon of a man, I watched him with Macron, dusting away the poor guys dandruff! Does he not have any idea how insulting that looked! Nope, this here Scot does not want him coming up here, and if he does, I hope non of our politicians start fawning over him!

Baggs Sat 28-Apr-18 16:17:55

I second what elegran says, westie: don't withdraw. I said your use of racist was incorrect, which it is because Scots are not a separate race from the English. I did not report what you posted to HQ.

The definition of race that you quote is correct. What you seem to suppose constitutes a race is not.

lemongrove Sat 28-Apr-18 16:14:56

Good posts JenniferEccles ( and a good name too!) smile

Time to grow up about Leaders/PM/President etc hosting others and making visits. It’s called diplomacy.

I don’t think he will be warmly welcomed in Scotland because of the actions of his company regarding the golf club/course etc but on the other hand, he employs a lot of people there so who knows?

Baggs Sat 28-Apr-18 16:13:31

Seems Kanye West (about whom I know zilch though I've heard the name) has come out in support of Trump.

I rather like this by Sam White, not least for the great photo, but what he quotes Alan Watts saying about Oppenheimer is fascinating.

Couple of Kanye West's tweets at the bottom.

Cold The leader of the Scottish conservatives is a gay woman who has just announced that she is pregnant by IVF. Yes, a meeting between her and Donald should be interesting!

linbrikit
thank you i was running out of energy
hes so exhausting to think about

mimiro Sat 28-Apr-18 15:36:28

fuck i hope he doesnt get elected.hes an ass and has always been a money/land hungry dick/
as for the wall .it will only cause more trouble.
the criminals and cartels will just come in a different way
3 coasts and another border in the north, which are alredy being used.
the cure is not a wall .its mexico fixing thier messed up government.
the wall will only slow down the familys looking for a beter life.who want to get away from the whole cartel system that is destroying the countries"south of the border"
these family risk thier lives to crawl across a desert with plastic jugs of water, they risk enslavement by "coyotes"(the transporters that charge insane amounts to "help" them )come over.and then are forced into "employment"to pay what they owe.
if they are coming here to live and work and be citizens i have no problem.
the criminals will find a way around the wall.many tunnels still exist, boats planes dont need a wall.
and scotland,it would seem you have the same problem we have here.where theres money theres assholes.he tried to take the exclusive right to casinos from the american indians in the southwest.and a few states in the northeast.

www.washingtonpost.com/national/donald-trumps-long-history-of-clashes-with-native-americans/2016/07/25/80ea91ca-3d77-11e6-80bc-d06711fd2125_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.bea7f6c47070

and yes he is a racist

Cold Sat 28-Apr-18 15:33:50

Is the leader of the Scottish Conservatives going to entertain Trump during his visit?

As that could be - um - interesting! wink wink wink

Linbrikat Sat 28-Apr-18 15:33:40

Quizqueen, your post has truly astounded me. You support a man who -

Is a known and proven molester of women
Is racist and supports neo-Nazis
Cares nothing for the environment
Approves of the killing of beautiful animals like elephants
Appears to have a very low IQ - have you read his tweets?
Consistently lies and does the same things he criticised
Obama for

I've never seen a more pitiful human being in public office. The chances of him getting re-elected are zero.

Elegran Sat 28-Apr-18 15:32:46

Don't withdraw, Westiegran. Stay and post rebuttals to biassed and blinkered comments like that.

Elegran Sat 28-Apr-18 15:29:05

Here we go again - the Scots do not detest the English. I have lived in Scotland since the nineteen-fifties, and no-one seems to detest me ! Could it be because I neither detest the Scots nor patronise them, but am aware that they have a history which is just as old as England's and not identical to it? Aware that many of the stories that have become myths and legends can be told from two sides?

The Scots have political opinions, formed by that history and not identical to English ones either. For one thing, they have first-hand experience of Donald Trump as a business man. It is his proud boast that he is bringing his business acumen into his presidency. Hmmm. He inherited a fortune from his father but has not succeeded in adding to it - quite the opposite.

Westiegran Sat 28-Apr-18 15:26:42

Well quizqueen you have just summed up for me why I am now withdrawing from this forum.
I complained to admin staff about a racist comment on here and was told firmly that Scots are not a race but a nationality therefore they were letting the comment go.
This, I know for a fact, is not the law as it stands.
The definition of racism is
‘The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, so as to to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races”
Both your comments and lillyflowers fall strictly within that category. We are not a hateful race and neither are the Irish. It is you and your comments that are hateful and I refuse to be part of any forum who stands by and allows such things to be said.
Now I truly understand why there are so few Scots on this forum. I dread to think what the world is coming to when grandparents, who should know better, back up in public such intolerant and abusive ideaologies.

quizqueen Sat 28-Apr-18 14:58:45

I know loads of people who support Mr Trump, myself included. People wouldn't have dared be so rude about Obama, now I wonder why that was and it certainly wasn't because he was a good president.

The sooner that wall across the Mexican border gets built the better. So many Scots seem to detest the English perhaps they would like a wall too and that goes for the Irish Republic as well who are trying to blackmail the UK government with threats of returning to the days of violence if they don't get their own way after Brexit. They have decided their loyalty lies with EU rather than the UK so our only consideration should be for Northern Ireland. Countries we sign free trade agreements with could ship their goods through there bypassing Ireland altogether.

I have never encountered such obnoxious comments about a democratically elected President of the USA. I do so hope he gets re-elected by the American people.

Ellie Anne Sat 28-Apr-18 14:43:32

I’m scottish and I can’t stand him!

GabriellaG Sat 28-Apr-18 13:31:45

BlueBelle
He won't care about your hand of friendship nor would he seek your forgiveness but it probably makes you feel better to vent your spleen about the President of another country, voted into office by the citizens of that country.
We're all entitled to our views but that view of the same subject differs, according to where you stand.

Jane10 Sat 28-Apr-18 13:25:45

I do hope they wheel Prince Philip out to meet him! grin

GabriellaG Sat 28-Apr-18 13:21:29

I quite like the guy. He doesn't appear to give a tinker's toss what the rebounds of his actions/words are but right or wrong, he sticks to his guns and says what he means.
Rather than mealy-mouthed polititians who say what they think we want to hear and are hog-tied by political correctness and H&S, Trump will have none of it and I'm all for that.
Everyone has their supporters and detractors and he's no different. As someone in the White House said, 'The President is thick-skinned'. I reckon he'll carry on smiling regardless of the actions of little Englanders who are not US citizens.

GabriellaG Sat 28-Apr-18 13:11:00

Friday 13th?
Not the best date in the diary.

spabbygirl Sat 28-Apr-18 12:47:08

I love the idea of a massive back-turn!! There was that lovely peaceful show of dislike in America last year, can't recall what it was, but it hit the news with no violence

grannybuy Sat 28-Apr-18 12:41:57

I can't imagine why anyone would think the Scots ' hated everyone regardless '! We are like any other country's native population - divided in who/ what we like. Some are good citizens, some not, just as some are racist, others not etc. I'm sure that anyone who has visited Scotland does not get the impression that we hate so much

JenniferEccles Sat 28-Apr-18 11:44:55

I don't object to a civilised demonstration at all patricia, but I'm sure everyone knows quite well how they will turn out.

There will be crowds and crowds of very angry, out of controls yobs waving placards, shouting obscenities.

What I'd like to know is how come the French managed to not behave like that?
I'm perfectly sure many of them have equally strong views of him as a lot here do, yet I don't remember seeing any ugly scenes there.

As I said before, there have been many really dreadful world leaders who have come here on state visits, so where were the protesters then?

Jangran99 Sat 28-Apr-18 11:29:02

Royal family members have met many leaders as bad, if not worse ,in the course of duty. As has been said before, they have to respect the Office. What they want is never reported.

farmgran Sat 28-Apr-18 11:20:18

Trump is horrible in the extreme. I'm amazed that he has some sort of connection with Scotland! Surely the royal family won't want to meet him!
