Now that time has moved on, but with a long way to go, does anyone regret the way they voted ? And would you still vote the same way if asked to vote again.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, I couldn’t see that it had.

Oh goodness, thank heavens our new expert Allygran1 is having a day off! I am sick and tired of (a) the extensive cut and paste articles and (b) the sycophantic fawning on her/his/its every word, some of you need to get a grip. This debate is being hijacked by someone who has suddenly dropped in, and just bombards the discussion, so much so that it is hardly worth replying. I am all for full and frank debate, but this is not such; it is a bullying, domineering take over of the discussion and I for one, am sick of it. Please just keep the points succinct and relevant Allygran1, and although there are a few on here who are happy to be patronised and told what to think, I am not so do not misinterpret what I post, or tell me what I am really thinking. This is a discussion forum, not a competition to see who can post the longest cut and paste article, not a lot of skill in that, even if you add the cosy little 'just popping off to get the washing in'. Oh, and welcome to lovely Gransnet! Now try and enter in the spirit of it, the spirit which we all enjoy.

Oh and while we are on the subject, yes I voted to remain, and the more I read from those who voted to leave, the happier I am with my decision. Going on the basis of judging a person by the company they keep, I would not wish to be associated with Rees-Mogg, Ian Duncan-Smith, Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage......need I say more? I know many on here have voted to leave for their own reasons, and I have no issue with that, even though I have still to read any one thing which will be better when/if we leave.

So true, GillT57 - we're still waiting

Smileless2012 Wed 09-May-18 11:35:43

Oh dear Gill sounds like sour grapes to me. Allygran hasn't hijacked this debate she's bringing some important points of discussion.

Strange how you haven't appeared to have a problem in the past with other's "long posts and use of extensive cut and paste articles". As for "sycophantic fawning", I've seen plenty of that on threads in this forum, not that I agree that it's happening here.

The real issue here of course is that you don't know how to respond to Allygran's posts so you choose instead to be insulting. "on her/his/its every word". Reallyshockyou refer to a fellow GN as it.

Gill you're the one who needs to get a grip. If you're incapable of taking part in a healthy and mature debate, perhaps you should post on another thread.

varian Wed 09-May-18 11:51:00

Using terms like "sour grapes" and telling a poster who has made a valid comment that she does not know how to respond is another sad example of the recent marked deterioration of this thread.

A "healthy mature debate" does not consist of lengthy incoherent pasteings by one poster, followed by nods of agreement from a little echo chamber.

mostlyharmless Wed 09-May-18 11:54:49

Wasn’t there another thread, in the last week, about how some people (usually men) have to dominate every conversation with lengthy, repetitive monologues?

MaizieD Wed 09-May-18 12:16:32

Strange how you haven't appeared to have a problem in the past with other's "long posts and use of extensive cut and paste articles

I have to confess that, apart from one other anti-EU poster's rambles (which were never as long as these) I can't recall any other similar postings from anyone in the past. Posting links means that those who are interested can check it out and those who aren't can pass on quickly. Besides which, it is more honest than cutting and pasting without citing the source and gives people the opportunity to make their own interpretation of the source text.

Smileless2012 Wed 09-May-18 12:18:58

Referring to a fellow GN as "it" isn't a valid comment varian, it's an insult.

Fennel Wed 09-May-18 12:20:43

I never read long posts. Better try to be concise, ( not always easy wink) . People take more notice.

MaizieD Wed 09-May-18 12:23:32

Someone who can't get a basic fact about the 1970s referendum correct and who uses the Third Reich trope of 'will of the people' is not impressive IMO.
I'm not utterly convinced that this is a genuine poster

varian Wed 09-May-18 12:37:22

I have never referred to another poster as "it" smileless. I tend to give the benefit of the doubt and believe they are what they claim to be - but who really knows?

The more robotic, rambling, numerous and incoherent posts could well have originated by a bot in a fake news factory in the Ukraine, then churned through google translate. Perhaps our generation are too trusting.

LynneB59 Wed 09-May-18 12:47:40

No, I don't regret voting to leave, and YES, I'd vote for leave again.

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 12:50:54

Please just keep the points succinct and relevant Allygran1

GillT thank you for making that point.
I am interested in the views of others and like to ponder them, but most of us don't have all day to sit and read such long posts Allygran1.

Or, to put it simply, tltr.

Gerispringer Wed 09-May-18 13:19:18

gill well said. I can’t remember anyone else cutting and pasting such long articles which said little that hadn’t already been said concisely and didn’t support his/ her argument one jot. No I haven’t the time or energy to more than skim through them.

lemongrove Wed 09-May-18 13:37:39

Enough sour grapes Gill to start your own winery.

What some remainers hate is a really good debate about it from somebody who knows what they are talking about, after all if you demand facts then Allygran gave plenty!

petra Wed 09-May-18 13:43:15

Lemon
enough sour grapes to start your own winery
I can't wait to use that one, brilliant grin

Allygran1 Wed 09-May-18 13:45:05

GillT57 be positive in your comments, do you have something to say about why you voted remain other than you don't like certain people who you have never met. Come on lets engage on a level that we can all get something from. Lets learn from each other.
Tell me why did you vote to remain just a list and I will respond.

Allygran1 Wed 09-May-18 13:48:22

MaizieD
What would you like to say about Brexit? Why do you think that I am not' a genuine poster"?

Allygran1 Wed 09-May-18 13:58:24

GillT57 Just read your posting with a little more concentration. Having just 'dropped in' as you so colourfully put it, I am perhaps not as sure of the conventions as people who have been posting longer. Is it not allowed to have long postings or cut and paste information that might answer other peoples questions?

May I explain, one of the reasons that my postings are long is because I touch type and that means I can type quite fast so I tend to type more I suppose. I also have never been able to use one word when I can use ten lovely ones. It is a fault. I just had never realised that some might find it irritating, although I also have problems reading longer text as I have got older because of concentration, it take a few read throughs to get a accurate drift of long text.

I can't promise to simplify my postings but I will do my best if it is so irritating.

By the way I 'dropped in" because my sister thought I might enjoy Gransnet and she was so right!

Allygran1 Wed 09-May-18 14:04:40

Gerispringer Hello!
Now Gerispringer, you brought up the subject of my mentioning only communism as an alternative system to capitalism, you suggest that we should look at the Scandinavian system. I knew little about this so I looked it up and thought that we would all benefit from some fact, which you obviously already had, so it might not have benefitted you to know that the Scandinavian system had a so many flaws and to compare it to our system would be like comparing apples to pears. One thing I was taught at Uni was that when comparing anything it must be like with like.

Did you enjoy reading the posting in response to your claim? It would be nice if you could contribute to this post with a considered response.

We can then continue to enjoy the debate.
Sorry if cutting and pasting information upset's you. Perhaps you can explain why it does so. I would find that helpful.

Allygran1 Wed 09-May-18 14:08:36

Jalimall08 Thanks for your advice could you let me have a list of the rules for posting that would be really helpful if I am overstepping the mark.

I realise that longer postings demand concentration to read and absorb, I myself find it harder to concerntrate these days, but with perseverance and because I want to understand what other think I stick with it.

What point would you like to debate? I have two hours then I have to make a pie for supper.

Gerispringer Wed 09-May-18 14:13:09

Well I don’t want to right an essay on how some western countries have more inequality than others. Scandinavian countries are not utopia, they do have high taxation, high cost of living , high suicide rates and are cold, I’m sure we can find some other negatives. Still, they do have greater economic equality and spend much more on health and welfare, which is what I was drawing attention to. So it can be done, your initial response on my comment that inequalities in the U.K. were increasing was to write an essay on communism and how it was perfectly fine to sell whatever rubbish people demanded and capitalism was the best system and we don’t need regulation. I am paraphrasing as I’m not going back to copy huge chunks.

Gerispringer Wed 09-May-18 14:13:29

Sorry Write not right .

Allygran1 Wed 09-May-18 14:14:51

Varian who do you think I am, other than what I claim to be which is last check still a woman (girl in my head) old, retired and interested in the world around me.

Please tell me who you think I am? I am so intrigued as to why I have caused so much of a stir with you and a couple of other remainers.

I have heard of these sites being hijacked by activist groups purporting to be whatever profile the site accepts. Should I question who you are or who Gerispringer is etc.

If you are activist, it doesn't matter if my debate and response if based on your informed postings then we all gain even undercover agents...you know how silly this sounds don't you!
