Jacob Rees-Mogg Moves For Conservative Party Leadership.

With an open attack on Theresa Mays handling of the Brexit negotiations many in the media believe that Jacob Rees-Mogg has made his first open move in a bid to become Conservative party leader and Britain's next Prime Minister.

Rees-Mogg in yet another of his ongoing interviews with the media lambasted "weak" Theresa May for preparing the UK for "Brexit failure". Rees-Mogg stated that with The British negotiators going into each set of negotiations with an attitude of "we will kowtow before you, Mr Barnier in every way you possible throughout these talks" there is no hope of success for the UK. The foregoing are undoubtedly harsh words indeed even from an arch hard line Brexitier, but many believe that there is far more to Rees-Moggs words than just Brexit.

It may well be that this hard line right wing politician has witnessed the way that Jeremy Corbyn has moved the Labour party to the left and now feels he could carry out the same in the Conservative party with the exception of that move being in the opposite direction in regards to political ground.

Evidence to the above can be seen in Rees-Moggs attack on Scottish Conservative Leader Ruth Davison, for in the same interview he stated that Davison should not be allowed to marry her longtime same sex partner as planned. However, same sex marriage legislation was put before parliament and passed in 2013 under the David Cameron coalition government.

In making the above comment Rees-Mogg is undoubtedly looking to damage Ruth Davison, who also is seen as a possible next leader of the Conservative party. That stated, it is also being seen as a move against centre ground Concervatives in parliament.

In the above can be seen shades of Momentum's original moves against centre Blairite MPs in the Labour party.

niggly , and I have constant demands to praise these people , I will not and cannot

nigglynellie Tue 05-Jun-18 15:16:52

annie I've just watched as last evening a neighbour called!! and to say that I was deeply moved is an understatement. Tessa herself, her lovely daughter, the young man, the young father, all so very very moving. I am hopeful though, that her death has not been in vain and that more research and advanced treatment will be available in the not too distant future.
I'm still outraged at that 'minutes silence'. Are these people totally ignorant or just downright cruel?! and now I see that odious Macdonnell man has applauded the slur on the Police!! Dear God, whatever next!!

niggly I watched the programme and it was upsetting, it also brought memories of a time when the party was together, from local parties to party conferences , those at the top traveled the country meeting party members , it was such a good time ?. Mo Molam gate crashing Welsh night to roars of ‘your not Welsh’ she replied ‘prove I am not ‘ all with laughter .

So JRM needn’t have moved house grin.

Conservative party members appear impressed with Gove. Maybe he will challenge for the leadership again?

nigglynellie Mon 04-Jun-18 20:30:43

You could tell that annie by her interviews. If she'd been my MP. I would have voted for her.

Anniebach Mon 04-Jun-18 20:08:58

niggly, she really was a lovely person I met her a few times at party conferences

nigglynellie Mon 04-Jun-18 19:23:29

I shall be watching that programme in about 10 mins annie. Remembering the belegued look on her face during the last interview (that I saw) had a profound effect and I feel that I must support her. I know that doesn't make sense, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

And why is that the case? I suggest that it is not the fault of the EU. For who to blame look closer to home.

7 out of 10 poorest regions in Northern Europe are in England - nothing to shout about.

Absolutely crystsl I get absolutely sick and tired of being told on here for example that if I don’t like the RF I should leave the country( I mean really?) or I shouldn’t criticise the UK because other countries are SO much worse. That’s the real evil of patriotism - a totally uncritical acceptance of your own country. I care about my country because nearly all the people I love best live here and I want it to be a country that cares about them all especially the poor and vulnerable ( including the ones I don’t know).

I am no longer able to get to London to see any exhibitions, you did Iam? I recall him being placed in solitary

crystaltipps Mon 04-Jun-18 18:41:31

China is a repressive regime. Who knew? Doesn’t mean the U.K. is perfect and we shouldn’t challenge inequality, cronyism, corruption, whatever, if it exists. The U.K. is not utopia. The fact that it’s better for some than some other places is not an excuse for complacency or heads in sand.

Anniebach Mon 04-Jun-18 18:38:02

Undoubtedly he has been in the past “unofficially contacted by Downing Street” this means he has been contacted ?

Iam64 Mon 04-Jun-18 18:33:07

Did anyone else got to the Ai Wei Wei (hope I got the spelling right) exhibition in London last year. He's a Chinese born artist, extremely talented imo.
The exhibition I saw included his work in the collapse of buildings in an earth quake, in which thousands of students died. The buildings weren't fit for purpose (rather like Grenfell) but, the authorities refused to release the names of those who died.
The artist was imprisoned in solitary confinement because his interviews, videos and representation of the disaster challenged the government and officials. The art he produced to commemorate his time in solitary was very moving. This was in recent years, not historical.

Lemongrove, undoubtedly he has been in the past "unofficially" contacted" by Downing Street for his reaction to "possibly" being offered a cabinet position.

Being a leading member of the Bow Group TM would be very in interested in having such a prominent MP onboard.

However, as JRMs interview with Andrew Marr clearly demonstrated he is not at all interested

Anniebach Mon 04-Jun-18 17:55:47

Off topic and unrelated to politics but BBC1 this evening 7.30 ‘the final weeks of Tessa Jowell highlighting the struggle of brain cancer patients across the UK

lemongrove Mon 04-Jun-18 17:52:14

Grandad..it’s easy to say that you are happy as a backbencher, and he probably is, but the fact remains that he has never been offered a place, he has never been a Minister, and were he to be offered that role there is little doubt that he would accept it, and it would only add to the likelihood that he could then go on and hope to be PM.
So, ‘holding out for the top job’ hardly makes sense.

Jalima1108 Mon 04-Jun-18 17:50:14

Well, trisher said this:

Artists in Britain often have their work destroyed if it is considered offensive by some.

there is nothing blue and no link as far as I can see.
The other thing is that the statement is written in the present form - have and not 'had' so one could presume this is happening now.

MawBroon Mon 04-Jun-18 17:45:26

Jalima1108, a link was posted in the original response

Where? .

MawBroon Mon 04-Jun-18 17:44:33

And nobody is adkng anybody to go to these countries for a holiday, unless they want to.
Last time I looked, this was a free country.

Jalima1108 Mon 04-Jun-18 17:43:56

I have no idea what you mean Grandad, I can't see trisher's link, must have missed it.

maryeliza54 Mon 04-Jun-18 17:42:52

If you say so MB

MawBroon Mon 04-Jun-18 17:42:32

If we are comparing communist regimes such as China or N Korea, it is highly appropriate to question outlandish claims that that sort of thing happens here.

Oh dear, when in a hole.......

maryeliza54 Mon 04-Jun-18 17:42:09

I don’t need to live in China to know what I think about it as a society and I would never go on holiday there.
