A couple in a critical condition, and Novichok used!

'Bin diving' could be very relevant in this case.

I think that even 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' may agree that it could be a factor in how they came to be affected.

However - I am puzzled that the bins are not more regularly emptied in Salisbury?

lemongrove Fri 06-Jul-18 20:53:08

maryeliza before you go off the deep end, it was reported that the couple and friends ‘ go bin diving’......this may be relevant to the case!
You always jump in as ‘outraged of Orpington’ without thinking.

ebayqueen, I accept you have a right to your point of view. I can even see the argument that 'blowing' benefits on substances isn't putting the benefits to the purpose for which they're intended. That's the point at which our view of "the likes of them".
This couple lie seriously ill in hospital. They are the innocent victims of some dreadful chemical poisoning. What have they done to deserve that- nothing at all. The fact is that both of them seem to have been engaging with agencies set up to help people like them. By that I mean people in desperate need, people who have become addicted drugs and/or alcohol, who have become homeless as a result of their mental and physical health problems.
The lack of human compassion shown in your comments is far more distressing to me than my taxes being "wasted"on "the likes of them"

Jalima1108 Fri 06-Jul-18 20:27:44

Yes, they do count, of course they do, but the media does always seem to include details about people, their jobs, their ages - even the type of house they live in.
It is always the case.

And the woman in question has three children - how must they be feeling?

maryeliza54 Fri 06-Jul-18 20:26:27

PS ‘ the likes of them’. I expect you don’t realise but you’ve given a perfect example of ‘othering’. Well done

maryeliza54 Fri 06-Jul-18 20:25:00

ebay you have absolutely no idea about what is the truth about these two people and their lives - absolutely in idea at all. And even if that were the truth, so what? They have been poisoned, they are very ill - or don’t they count because they are junkies and bin dive ( according to some on GN)

maryeliza54 Fri 06-Jul-18 20:21:24

lemon these are two people - ‘bin diving’. WTAF. Read what MOnica said - whatever their life style and you have no bloody idea at all about how it came about, they wouldn’t have been poisoned if the poison had not been there. You should read what the leader of Salisbury Council said about them - and he didn’t use words ds like bin diving and junkies -he talked about them as people. This thread is really showing us the true nature of some posters - if we needed showing. That and the number of smilie face - utterly disgraceful

ebayqueen Fri 06-Jul-18 20:16:04

maryeliza54, Obviously them spending the £200 benefits WE pay for on beer etc. This country is in enough trouble without the likes of them claiming benefits then wasting it. I have no problem with genuine claimants , who feed them selves with it but this is taking the pee.

lemongrove Fri 06-Jul-18 19:42:07

Possibly Monica but also possibly their lifestyle was the cause of their finding something, a friend said they all did
Bin diving. We will hopefully know something when the police do.

M0nica Fri 06-Jul-18 19:31:09

Whether the two people affected by this terrible event are drug takers, alcoholics or high wire dancers is totally and completely irrelevant to the discussion about what has happened to them. They were randomly poisoned and the people affected could just as likely to have been children or GN members.

Jalima1108 Fri 06-Jul-18 18:58:50

I do think that is a fairly general term in use for anyone who is addicted to anything - be it drugs, chocolate, football, computer games, tv etc etc. and not particularly derogatory.

MawBroon Fri 06-Jul-18 18:55:29

Oh GrannyGravy the sanctimonious self righteousness of taking umbrage on someone else’s behalf! ( junkies )
I think we all knew this was shorthand for individuals with illegal substance abuse and addiction issues

Jalima1108 Fri 06-Jul-18 18:50:23

ISWYM now M0nica, thanks

Katek Fri 06-Jul-18 18:48:26

In the words of the great detective, Mr Sherlock Holmes.....” when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”

Now where do we start....?!

Jane10 Fri 06-Jul-18 18:08:42

Of course no one sets out to become addicted to substances of any kind. I used to term 'junkie' as a rapid summary of their lifestyle. Obviously I should have been more mealy mouthed.

M0nica Fri 06-Jul-18 15:17:52

Jalima, they weren't' targeted' by the Russians. The Russians denied anything to do with the Skripal case, blaming it on Porton Down. If another couple of people, with no contact with the Skripals and with no security issues is infected, the Russians can just turn round and say 'See, we told you, both poisonings are the result of intent or lack of security at Porton Down. Where ever the Novochok, was placed it was somewhere which had enough people going past for someone to pick it up and be poisoned. No targeting involved

GrannyGravy13 Fri 06-Jul-18 14:08:08

I agree maryeliza54 the term "junkies" is abhorrent and disrespectful.

We do not know this couple, only what the media have dug up and presented. They may have underlying mental health or family problems, in my experience no one sets out on their life journey to be an addict!!

All though we allegedly live in an open country, maybe things are kept back for matters of national security.

maryeliza54 Fri 06-Jul-18 13:56:37

ebay what is it that angers you? And Jane I don’t think it’s kind to call the ‘junkies’. It’s very disrespectful

lemongrove Fri 06-Jul-18 13:51:02

It has been announced that the couple did touch a container
Monica possibly the original source of the nerve agent.
Was it there ( somewhere) all along, or simply left somewhere to be ‘found’ I wonder, which in that case would fit your own theory.

Anniebach Fri 06-Jul-18 11:33:37

niggly ? x

PECS Fri 06-Jul-18 11:11:27

I can't knit at all..am I stateless? grin

nigglynellie Fri 06-Jul-18 11:07:32

Whew annie that's a relief!!! I'd half wondered if the hot weather was getting to me!! ? To suggest Mrs May is party to poisoning this poor unfortunate couple is really quite astonishing bordering on wicked! As for the princess, I think we all know what the story was there, and I while no one deserves to die, when you dice with death??!!?

Jane10 Fri 06-Jul-18 10:12:54

I feel very sorry for the people of the area. Despite all the assurances that everything has been cleaned up its a sort of rubbish roulette as to whether or not some unfortunate person accidentally comes in contact with the remainder of this toxic substance.
Those poor junkies. They sound like lost souls themselves.

ebayqueen Fri 06-Jul-18 10:06:35

It's dreadful there are more poisonings but the bit that's really angered me is the quote from the alcoholic pairs friend.

Anniebach Fri 06-Jul-18 09:59:06

Not only Al Fayed, many in the country, it was as ridiculous as suggesting this poisoning was by the government as a distraction.

niggly, just thought I would add to - the fantasy who did it list ?
