Novichok yet again in Wiltshire!

It's a real conundrum isn't it. The residents in the area must be feeling anxious. I suppose we just don't know enough yet to even try to speculate how/when and where these people came into contact with the poison.

Iam64 Yes I am entitled to my opinion and don't expect people to pounce on me and point out the facts. It seems on here that if you don't agree with the majority , you get slated for it. I am a very compassionate person,as anyone who knows me would agree with but with my 5 grandchildren growing up in such drink and drug filled world,I have no compassion for people who CHOOSE to lead lives that could kill them.

Salisbury is a lovely place, such a shame that everyone will now be afraid of going into the centre.

The container could have been put into the bin very recently. Perhaps the poisoner waited for three months before retrieving it from some temporary hiding place, thinking that by then it would be safer to handle and dispose of (though if he/she touched it while throwing it in, why are they not showing the effects too?)

I am sticking to my belief that this is a new poison attack and wherever the poison was it was somewhere far more accessible than in a bin. I think this was a deliberate attempt to poison some random member of the public and that the person who laid the poison, thought carefully about where to put it.

I cannot believe that the person who laid the poison for the Skripals, almost certainly a highly trained KGB operative, once he had put the poison on the Skripals house and car doors then casually dumped the rest of the tin into a wheelie bin. It would have been wrapped up and flown out of Britain before it had been discovered what it was had poisoned the Skripals.

If the poison was in a syringe, there may not have been any residue on the outside.

I do think the fact that the couple may have been 'bin or skip diving' has been quite widely reported maryeliza - and there is nothing shameful in that anyway, as even Kirsty Allsopp and others on the tv have been renowned for 'skip diving'.
I have done it myself - albeit in a neighbour's skip and retrieved some very good books which should never have been thrown out.

It is just part of the investigation as to how this poor and innocent couple became contaminated.

I think, Maryeliza, that where and how this unfortunate couple came into contact with this Novichok is of vital importance to the investigation.

I mentioned that the couple were thought to be drinkers. It was relevant only because it was impliesd in media reports that they may have picked up ' rubbish' or looked in litter bins..increasing risk of becoming contaminated by discarded items. Also if their general health is not good their recovery would be a tough journey.

Ebayqueen It must be lonely up there on the moral high ground. Addiction can happen in the 'nicest' families, as can alcohol addiction, depression, mental illness and substance abuse. There are many on here who have suffered with this in their family and will assure you that not one of their children or grandchildren 'chose' the lifestyle.
On the assumption that the original 'hit' was a professional one, I agree that the remainder was unlikely to be left somewhere it could be found and identified and possibly used to trace, through cctv etc just who put it there. I do wonder if this was deliberate, to cause unrest and unease, let's face it, if another episode of poisoning occurs in say, Bolton, or Doncaster, or Cardiff, people are going to be frightened to go anywhere and the effect on the local economies, as we know from reports from Salisbury, can be catastrophic. Could this be an especially nasty fear and economy attack from Putin? Seems far fetched, but so does bumping off ex-agents in such a public way.

I think the reason the Russian intelligent services made this second attack in the Salisbury area rather than elsewhere is because of the proximity of Porton Down.

Russia can now make the argument that security there is so poor that Novichoc made there was availabe for someone to poison the Skripals and now a container of it, or contaminated with it, has been dropped somewhere where any member of the public could and did pick it up.

It is in fact a tribute to Porton Down that the Russians are so worried about its skills and knowledge and this is shown by the speed with which PD identified the poison used in the original attack and the effective way they advised the doctors on how it worked and the damage it would cause, that the Russians now feel such a need to try and undermine its reputation and seed doubts about its operations.

I think this attack was as deliberate and planned and carried out by the same team who poisoned the Skripals.
