Many American, at least the ones I know (and their friends) are approving of the Blimp. I've just been on FB with a group and the comments are all along the lines of 'where can we get one so that he stays away' and 'thanks so much for showing you care'. I have made many trips to the US and find the people delightful. Even when they disagree upon quite deep subjects they are always polite and respectful.

Trump Blimp
(261 Posts)Im not at all pro trump but IMO this is awful
It is not a "protest". Ive been on protests. They have a point and an aim
What is point/aim here?
That they don't like his appearance & don't want UK to even try to negotiate?
They don't want us to be the "bigger person" as a nation? they want us to be as childish and petty as him?
Its embarrassing and diplomatically dangerous, NOT an exercise in constructive protect or free speech
How good to hear from you Rhinestone. Many of us are indeed standing with many of you who hate what this man stands for. I echo what varian has said, we do not bear any animosity towards the US people. Thankfully free speech is still alive and well as borne out by the many protesting today.
Well said Rhinestone. We Brits do not harbour animosity towards US citizens like you, only your appalling president.
I am an American. I thank the people of London for their protesting today. I feel supported. You are protesting his treatment of immigrant children who are still not reunited with their families, of his racism, his hate and mocking of people, his hypocrisy.. I could go on and on. We here are so happy to be supported. The last year and a half has been a nightmare. So thank you .
Well Trump has managed to make himself ridiculous without any help from a blimp, by saying his interview in The Sun yesterday when he criticised May’s Brexit strategy, praised Boris, said America wouldn’t be able to do a trade deal with U.K. if there’s a soft Brexit, is fake news.
EXCEPT there’s video evidence that Trump said all those things in The Sun.
Totally discredited. Very embarrassing!
btw, I had to read your post twice- as at first I read it as US as in USA - and not as us (we)
Yes, I can see that nutty, and I agree- I feel it would have been best to totally ignore Turmp's visit and clear the streets- as he loves all the attention.
But how do you feel about Fabrican Tweeting a picture of a pig balloon having sex with Sadiq Khan. Islamophobic and racist- and deserving of the sack. A different league, surely.
This is appalling . Rude , childish and yes , demeaning to us not him .
How was this allowed to happen .
No fan ofTrump but this makes US look ridiculous to the rest of the world .
MawBroon, glad you approved - maybe we should meet one day ...
Grampie, there is a huge difference between satire and sheer Islamophobia and racism. No?
The blimp is designed to insult our guest.
It also inflates the ego of authoritarian lefties as they stand ready to be interviewed by the BBC and others to make themselves feel better as they spread their outdated misquotes and malicious gossip.
Mike Fabricant, Tory MP (the one with blond wig who unfortunately looks like the love child of Trump and BoJo - sorry try to avoid comments based on looks but ...)

I know I have from time to time disagreed with what you have said, but this is just wonderful. Classic and spot on!

Mike Fabricant, Tory MP (the one with blond wig who unfortunately looks like the love child of Trump and BoJo - sorry try to avoid comments based on looks but ...)
has tweeted picture of a baloon figure of Sadi Khan having sex with a pig. He is quite rightly facing attacks of Islamophobia and racism - and I really hope that he will be sacked from the Conservative Party. Disgusting.
Many of Johnson's failed projects have already been mentioned (Garden Bridge, water cannons, etc.).
The Routemaster bus which he also introduced at huge cost is said to have been a failure. They cost twice the amount of the old double deckers, carry fewer passenger (87 instead of 96), were fitted with an ineffcient air cooling system which led to people expiring in the heat and new openable windows had to be fitted, the jump on/jump off feature has been more or less phased out (the prinipal purpose of the Routemaster), hybrid battery system doesn't work properly and most buses are running entirely on diesel.
The Thames Cable Car costing £60 million, £24 million of which funded by taxpayers - it is poorly used since there is little demand for travel from the Greenwich Peninsula to the Royal Docks.
Boris Island Airport Scheme, refused after millions being spent on the project
Stratford Orbital Structure - which many people (me included) think is pointless and ugly - costs £10,000 per week to maintain.
Just a few of Johnson's stupid vanity projects.
I am not a huge fan of Sadiq Khan but I think he is a good deal better than Johnson.
Since it was a quotation from The Guardian, I think it's safe to assume it was ironical.
The point is that sometimes folk can be judged by the company they keep.
I wondered if the wonderful Tommy Robinson remark was an attempt at irony...
Wonderful Tommy Robinson is someone taking the p.... the man is even more vile than the Trump I wish he had been jailed for life
It is very difficult to know how to deal with the blatant rudeness displayed here and elsewhere by President Trump, as he insults the Prime Minister and Mayor of London.
Silly displays like the blimp reduce us to his level of vulgarity, protests pander to his vanity and need always to provoke a reaction, and any attempt to ignore him is thwarted by the Press.
He should be asked to leave the country immediately, but good manners, which he so despises, will prevail.
More frighteningly, a large percentage of Americans actively support him.
In an extraordinary intervention timed to coincide with his UK visit, Mr Trump said Theresa May ignored his advice by opting for a soft Brexit strategy. And he warned her any attempts to maintain close ties with the EU would make a lucrative US trade deal very unlikely.
Mr Trump said: “If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal.”

I was handed a leaflet outside my tube station Tuesday evening, half reads "World's #1 racist - Protest Trumps Visit" - giving information on the Friday 13 Protest, (2pm gather at Portland Place London W1 (BBC), 5pm Rally at Trafalgar Square.
The other half says Oppose the Nazis and Tommy Robinson - Saturday 14 July 2pm, protest - Whitehall.
I've seen a couple of reports on Twitter that the Tommy Robinson protest (which, in June, led to extreme violence) is going to be scrapped as it clashes with the England 3rd place game.
I took the leaflet without looking at it, walking down the road I nearly went back and shook the guy's hand.
As the US president arrives in the UK, he will be met with a chorus of disapproval – but also a smaller number of cheerleaders whose enthusiasm for his leadership is matched only by their gift for self-promotion. With millions of Twitter followers between them, considerable television appearance money (for those who are not incarcerated), and in some cases the endorsement of the president himself, the British Trumpocracy is still thriving – and ready for another moment in the limelight.
Wonderful people like Tommy Robinson, the former leader of the English Defence League, was jailed for 13 months for contempt of court in May – but he has become an unlikely hero for many Trump supporters. Before he was jailed, petitions were set up asking Trump to grant asylum to Robinson in the US.

so now the American embassy has issued a warning to Americans living in Britain because we're going to be such a rabid mob during Trumps visit.
He is monopolizing on it. As has been said many times on this thread: the best protest against trump would have been radio silence...
“Mumbling fool”- perfect description of Johnson ( not calling him Boris as this is one way he trades on his teddy bear loveable persona)
I like Mark Thomas on Boris when he was Mayor If Boris were to fall off a zipwire tomorrow, it would be a major victory for humanity. This is Boris’s London, and it’s about more and more gentrification . . . Boris is a nasty piece of work. People say ‘good old Boris’, [but] he is an opportunist who only exists for Boris.
And storage is having to be paid for as well. SK has been trying to sell them but nobody wants them ????BTW Beau you do know he lied in his resignation letter- but then, why wouldn’t he, that’s his modus operandi ( oohhh I can talk Latin too). ?
