Im not at all pro trump but IMO this is awful

It is not a "protest". Ive been on protests. They have a point and an aim

What is point/aim here?
That they don't like his appearance & don't want UK to even try to negotiate?
They don't want us to be the "bigger person" as a nation? they want us to be as childish and petty as him?

Its embarrassing and diplomatically dangerous, NOT an exercise in constructive protect or free speech

Fennel, mcem does not mention the golf course in Scotland in her/his post at all. That is why I asked the question of her.

We have to assume that your interest in Turnberry golf hotel and course is something different, until we know to the contrary from mcem.

Trump will be seeing the Queen at Balmoral whilst staying at the Turnberry Hotel.

Nicenanny3 Sun 08-Jul-18 16:08:42

It's funny that the Liberal lefties never condemned Merkel or Machon when they pulled out all the stops when Trump visited them. Khan is a useless Mayor.

Fennel Sun 08-Jul-18 16:08:25

Ally I think maybe you should ask permission from GNHQ before introducing a new rule about posting.

PECS Sun 08-Jul-18 16:01:48

Lot's of animosity to the 2 elected Labour mayor's. They are , unsurprisingly, not supported of the current POTUS whose recent actions & speeches have shown he is a misogynist, racist person. That in itself is enough for him to be a target for ridicule and protest.

Allygran1 Sun 08-Jul-18 16:01:23

Fennel how can you say that you feel the same way as mcem? How on earth can you know that?

Allygran1 Sun 08-Jul-18 15:58:07

You will notice Maryeliza that I am not supporting Trumps behaviour, I am merely pointing out the the Mayor of Sheffield is himself outrageous, and an attention seeker, that was the point.

Allygran1 Sun 08-Jul-18 15:56:18

Of course you are Brid. Sadly though I do not see how a question addressed to mcdm can possibly be answered by Fennel, can you?

maryeliza54 Sun 08-Jul-18 15:44:29

Bloody hell Ally what an insult to the M of S - there is not a politician in the whole of the UK whose behaviour is anywhere approaching the cess pit of DT’s behaviour.

maryeliza54 Sun 08-Jul-18 15:42:00

I know Brid it’s sad isn’t it?

Bridgeit Sun 08-Jul-18 15:36:51

Are we now not allowed to comment/ question any post regardless if ‘said comment’ is addressed to a particular poster?

Fennel Sun 08-Jul-18 15:24:52

Well I'm answering it too because I've followed the story and feel the same way as mcem.
I've been having another look and it seems he's losing a lot of money on his 2 golf projects, so that's a bit of recompense.

Allygran1 Sun 08-Jul-18 15:18:26

The question is to mcem Fennel, not you.

Fennel Sun 08-Jul-18 15:07:02

Have you not read the history of the Scottish golf course Ally?

Allygran1 Sun 08-Jul-18 14:21:10

mcem "Wish he thought that about Scotland!
Hoping Scots will simply turn their backs and ignore him."

Why?

Allygran1 Sun 08-Jul-18 14:19:53

It really is a pity that the Mayor of Sheffield has not got enough to do improving the lives of the people of Sheffield, rather than engaging in child like self promoting stunt's.

Whilst I can see why the Mayor of Sheffield might wish to see how the American steel tariff might affect what steel production there might still be in Sheffield, I cannot see why as a flamboyant, OTT elected official himself, he cannot see that his behaviour is not that far removed from that of Trump.

I think that Sheffield was known as "the socialist republic of Yorkshire" but that is when Scargill ruled the roost.

Allygran1 Sun 08-Jul-18 14:05:27

Khan should mind his own affairs. London has enough problems for him surely. Knife crime at an all time high, Moped mugging's rampant.

Trump is the elected President of America and as such the 'office' of President of America should be respected. As has been said in others way's, the UK has had State visits, by despots, treated to all the pomp and ceremony that Britain has to offer, but because they were not high profile very little was said.

There is also a difference between 'making fun' by TV programme makers, and the Mayor of London, being involved in this sort of undignified and demeaning of the "office" that Khan holds.

lemongrove Sun 08-Jul-18 13:48:46

Was it?
Am from a different part of Yorkshire Iam but Greyduster would know.
It certainly has some great amenities nowadays .

Iam64 Sun 08-Jul-18 13:44:53

It would need a full council meeting to consider and vote lemon. Was Sheffield previously known as the Socialist Republic of Yorkshire? Whatever, I’m still enjoying this Mayoral jolly

lemongrove Sun 08-Jul-18 13:18:18

I doubt ( in any case) that even had he been in deadly earnest, the mayor of Sheffield would have any such power,
Not like the mayor of New York, haha.

Iam64 Sun 08-Jul-18 11:44:14

The Mayor of Sheffield knew full well Mr T had no plans to visit his city. The Mayor was a child seeking safety when he arrived in the UK and is re-paying his safe haven with public service, and a GSOH

Jalima1108 Sun 08-Jul-18 10:39:39

Yes really Jalima

I am not quite following your train of thought here PECS, sorry. Perhaps I have missed something

mcem Sun 08-Jul-18 10:26:21

Probably thinks Sheffield is yet another no-go area!
Wish he thought that about Scotland!
Hoping Scots will simply turn their backs and ignore him.

maddyone Sun 08-Jul-18 09:57:37

Ha ha Sunseeker, I’ll bet he doesn’t, at least not the Sheffield in the UK.

sunseeker Sun 08-Jul-18 09:34:31

Was Trump planning to visit Sheffield - does he even know where it is?

Iam64 Sun 08-Jul-18 08:10:52

The Mayor of Sheffield has banned Mr T from entering his city. Of course, it would need the council to approve this but what a hero. He wore a Sombrero during the council meeting and declared 13 July to be a day when Sheffield is in solidarity with Mexico.
Come on Andy Burnham smile
