Im not at all pro trump but IMO this is awful

It is not a "protest". Ive been on protests. They have a point and an aim

What is point/aim here?
That they don't like his appearance & don't want UK to even try to negotiate?
They don't want us to be the "bigger person" as a nation? they want us to be as childish and petty as him?

Its embarrassing and diplomatically dangerous, NOT an exercise in constructive protect or free speech

After ally made it clear that I should have replied more promptly to her question ( which WAS answered by fennel) I was surprised that she was unaware of my eagerly awaited reply. She then posted yet again saying that she was still waiting.
Now I am even more surprised that she hasn't returned.
Perhaps too busy rewriting the rule book.

crystaltipps Sun 08-Jul-18 21:41:45

Too busy reading Wikipedia.

lemongrove Sun 08-Jul-18 22:02:19

So much bitching going on!

mcem Sun 08-Jul-18 22:13:54

Glad you agree lemon.
It isn't on, is it, to imply that a poster should be available to reply to a question and then complain that the answer isn't forthcoming when it's sitting there waiting to be read.
Neither is it reasonable to discard a perfectly good reply because a poster demands the reply only from the person to whom the question was put!
We can do without this level of bossiness and the
"I 'm in charge of this discussion" attitude.

lemongrove Sun 08-Jul-18 22:16:21

The bitching is all from the other side mcem sadly it seems to be getting worse.

lemongrove Sun 08-Jul-18 22:17:50

You and others may see what you think is bossyness, I see what you and others do are bullying tactics.

mcem Sun 08-Jul-18 22:31:45

Others? Are we getting back to cliques and gangs? And do you see nothing wrong with the way I was brought to book for not replying (when I had) and that fennel was rebuked for answering a question because it wasn't addressed directly to her? Just how many times did she say I hadn't answered her question?
Come on, dear. Get a grip.

absent Sun 08-Jul-18 22:36:24

I agree that there are many injustices committed by the leaders of many countries, some, perhaps, more egregious than Donald Trump's. (I think taking babies and children hostage to force asylum-seeking parents out of the country ranks pretty highly on the loathsome scale.) What people here seem to be overlooking, although I admit I haven't read every single post, is how dangerous this man is. He is gagging for "his" war, Afghanistan and Iraq are hangovers and don't, therefore, redound to his credit. He has threatened North Korea with a nuclear attack, although he is currently trying to convince the world of the value of his non-existent deal with Kim Jong-un; he has speculated about invading Venezeula; he is iffy about NATO; and he is planning a vast increase on the USA's nuclear arsenal.

lemongrove Sun 08-Jul-18 22:36:36

I could say the same to you dear !
Yes, others, as in other posters, all moaning about the wording by another poster, and feeling righteous about it.

lemongrove Sun 08-Jul-18 22:37:04

That was to mcem btw

lemongrove Sun 08-Jul-18 22:39:25

absent I don’t think anyone is overlooking anything, more that they feel a proper demonstration or march would be the better and more grown up thing to do.

Jalima1108 Sun 08-Jul-18 23:03:40

(I think taking babies and children hostage to force asylum-seeking parents out of the country ranks pretty highly on the loathsome scale.
I agree, it does.
But 'disappearing' people, expelling thousands from their homes because they are the 'wrong religion' (Myanmar) and other such human rights abuses rank just as highly imo - and these leaders have been accorded state visits and feted here.

Bridgeit Sun 08-Jul-18 23:07:53

Lemongrove you say :
The bitching is all from the other side. That sounds to me very much like you yourself have drawn up battle lines !

Bridgeit Sun 08-Jul-18 23:12:27

Good point Jalima

I think that Sheffield was known as "the socialist republic of Yorkshire" but that is when Scargill ruled the roost.

I lived in Sheffield when it was dubbed the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire and it was an excellent place to live in. Fantastic cheap public transport system, lively new theatre, excellent library and art gallery, superb concerts at the City Hall and good museums of its industrial heritage. Not to mention a string of well maintained parks through which you could practically walk from one side of the city to the other...

It had nothing at all to do with Scargill, it was a Steel city, not mining.

Just saying...

MaizieD Sun 08-Jul-18 23:29:33

As you were, ladies!

Allygran1 Mon 09-Jul-18 00:08:02

mcem, having just returned from a lovely evening out, with my nearest and dearest, a meal, and a glass of wine, on a cool summer evening in glorious UK, with not a mention of Brexit, politics or even 'the socialist republic of Yorkshire", I have just seen your post.

Your post was to Fennel not to me.

Allygran1 Mon 09-Jul-18 00:27:02

MaizieD, thanks for the correction, although Sheffield was the HQ for the NUM and Arthur Scargill had his office there.

The move from London was part of the reinforcement of what came to be known as the 'socialist republic of South Yorkshire" largely brought about by David Blunkets administration of the Council, and the re-siting of what was then a powerful( naturally socialist) Union HQ the NUM.

The NUM building was commissioned by Arthur Scargill in the early 1980s in an effort to move the NUM from London to the friendlier territory of the "Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire".[1] Construction began in 1986[2] and the building opened in 1988.

Sorry should have included it in the post.

Allygran1 Mon 09-Jul-18 00:48:00

HildaW that is always an option. As you say though if a question is asked about a post, it would be polite to answer don't you think!

Lemongrove you say :

Heavens to Murgatroyd Bridgeit! The number of times that some people try to get a sensible and intelligent thread going on here that is then destroyed by a few, and we all know who they are is appalling. The nasty little asides, the direct attacks, the picking people up about silly little things, name calling, it really is just what bullies do everywhere. So to accuse Lemongrove of drawing up "battle lines "as you put it is simply ludicrous.
Since the intention is I am sure to stop the thread, or bully the 'target' to going off the thread, that makes me for one, more determined to stay on and try to get back to a discussion.
As for 'gangs" mcem, it is more than gangs, in your defence of each other you become a 'pack'.

Iam64 Mon 09-Jul-18 07:43:07

I still don't understand why the idea of flying the blimp Trump offends people. He is astoundingly rude to anyone who doesn't agree with him. He's a dreadful role model for young people and stirs up the worst in his supporters. His use of language is rude and infantile, he hurls insults around in a way unbecoming of anyone and totally unacceptable in a Potus.
Fly that balloon folks. I can't get to London for the march but will be there in spirit.
Yes, this country has welcomed other despots in the name of diplomacy and bridge building (or indeed Trade). This is different. This man is one of the most powerful leaders in the world, he's the leader of a country with which we have strong alliances. The PM has to use diplomatic language in her dealings with him. That doesn't mean the rest of us have to follow suit.

mcem Mon 09-Jul-18 08:12:19

Given the way that this thread has become utter paranoid nonsense I 'm switching my focus to a different thread. Packs? Gangs? Bullying?
I feel like asking you to name the members of this imaginary 'pack' but CBA!
You'd have a problem though as your 'conspiracy theory' exists only in your rather confused head.
Over and out!I

Bridgeit Mon 09-Jul-18 08:25:28

Allygran1,your post can only be described as desperate & Pathetic & extremely sad but I can now see that you have no self awareness what so ever, you cannot think outside your own bubble, therefore I wish you well in it, it’s a bit like that saying Men are from Mars, woman are from Venus, let’s just settle for you and I from different planets.

lemongrove Mon 09-Jul-18 14:40:58

Brid no ‘battle lines’ but I hate all the ganging up that often goes on here.
It would have been nicer if you had just said to Ally
‘Let’s agree to disagree’.
Ally has made no awful personal remarks to you, but just consider your last post to her on here.
