“Hate” might be too strong a word Iam but they dislike us for starting the breakup of the EU . Germany and the big players are clearly not going to agree/ give in, to any of our claims and they are making it as difficult as possible for fear that another country might want to join us .

Trump Blimp
(261 Posts)Im not at all pro trump but IMO this is awful
It is not a "protest". Ive been on protests. They have a point and an aim
What is point/aim here?
That they don't like his appearance & don't want UK to even try to negotiate?
They don't want us to be the "bigger person" as a nation? they want us to be as childish and petty as him?
Its embarrassing and diplomatically dangerous, NOT an exercise in constructive protect or free speech
Sorry, been busy looking after DGS - The reason I detest Sadiq Khan is that he is a mumbling fool - I have never heard him answer a question intelligently, he runs around London having selfies taken with random people, he completely forgot to commemorate the 7/7 bombings last week, murder rates have risen in London since he came to power, heaven knows who he thinks he is but he should not be commenting on Trump at all, basically everything about him is unsuited to being the Mayor of London. Nothing to do with 'racism', but a lot to do with him being Labour obviously. Boris Johnson was my perfect Mayor and Foreign Secretary and Jacob Rees-Mogg is my dream PM so there is no way in the world I would find an inarticulate lightweight like Sadiq Khan to my taste.
Well we could list the lies and stupid decisions made by Boris Johnson when he was mayor Beau. Far from the perfect mayor. Garden bridge and the cycle not so superhighway spring to mind ( you should hear the taxi drivers thoughts on this!), not to mention closing fire stations when he promised he wouldn't, buying unused water cannons, the underused cable car, plus all the deputies he had who were fired or resigned due to dodgy deals, I could go on...
But at least he was not Labour so all that's just unfortunate - I do agree it was a disgrace that he was never allowed to use the water cannon though.
Boris was an unmitigated disaster as Mayor - money is still being spent on his ill advised vanity projects that have never been completed He was well known for not mastering briefs and detail and it all being about him - exactly what is said about his disatetous tenure as FS. He has overplayed nis hand now I believe - thank goodness. You’ll never get your dream Beau. JRM is hypocritical and sexist and again only cares about himself . He and BJ are a perfect pair.
I worked in the West End then Paddington then back in the West End for 22 years until I took early retirement - London certainly felt safer to me with Boris at the helm. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but just because social media and MSM is predominantly left wing does not mean that the country as a whole is - thank goodness.
One of my work colleagues has a selfie with Boris, BJ was walking past my office. My son has a selfie with Boris, BJ was at the House of Commons and my son works there, BJ's assistant asked him and his friend if they wanted a photo. Just saying ...
And water cannons?!?!? No. Something needs to be addressed in that the Police are not the enemy of the people. To have the Police force use water cannons on British citizens would be outrageous! And working in SE1 the Garden Bridge was extremely unpopular, and oh my God the cost!
*Quote - At least £37.4m of public funds has already been spent on the project and a further £9m is at risk.
In total, an estimated £46.4m of taxpayers' money - calculated as direct grants of about £26m from the Department of Transport (DfT), around £11m in services in kind from Transport for London (TfL) and the remainder in cancellation costs - has been spent, according to the review by Dame Margaret Hodge.
Mr Khan said it was his "duty to ensure taxpayers' money was spent responsibly".
"I have been clear since before I became mayor that no more London taxpayers' money should be spent on this project and when I took office I gave the Garden Bridge Trust time to try and address the multiple serious issues with it," he said.
"Londoners will, like me, be very angry that London taxpayers have now lost tens of millions of pounds - committed by the previous mayor on a project that has amounted to nothing." *unquote
I am genuinely puzzled by the statement "social media and MSM is predominantly left wing"
I admit I know relatively little about social media but the main stream media in this country consists of newspapers like The Daily Mail, Express, Sun, Telegraph and The Times, all of which are clearly right wing and in the main pro-brexit. Only the Guardian and Mirror tend to support Labour, with the "i" being neutral.
I know that the BBC is accused of bias by both right and left and uses this as an excuse to claim that it is unbiased, but it has always been obvious that the BBC has played a big part in promoting brexit, not just since 2016, but for a good twenty years, constantly inviting Farage onto QT and other political discussions, when no other MEP ever got a chance to correct his lies. I think the BBC have a lot to answer for.
Oh Beau MSM predominantly left wing - you really are a hoot what with that and your adoration of Boris and Jacob. As for SM p, it’s of all opinions across the board often depending on who’s posting or blogging or whatever
I think it was Theresa May as home sec who ruled he couldn’t use the water cannons, that was after Johnson had bought them. He was so arrogant he didn’t think to ask permission beforehand . They are rusting away somewhere in Kent I believe.
And storage is having to be paid for as well. SK has been trying to sell them but nobody wants them ????BTW Beau you do know he lied in his resignation letter- but then, why wouldn’t he, that’s his modus operandi ( oohhh I can talk Latin too). ?
I like Mark Thomas on Boris when he was Mayor If Boris were to fall off a zipwire tomorrow, it would be a major victory for humanity. This is Boris’s London, and it’s about more and more gentrification . . . Boris is a nasty piece of work. People say ‘good old Boris’, [but] he is an opportunist who only exists for Boris.
“Mumbling fool”- perfect description of Johnson ( not calling him Boris as this is one way he trades on his teddy bear loveable persona)
so now the American embassy has issued a warning to Americans living in Britain because we're going to be such a rabid mob during Trumps visit.
He is monopolizing on it. As has been said many times on this thread: the best protest against trump would have been radio silence...
As the US president arrives in the UK, he will be met with a chorus of disapproval – but also a smaller number of cheerleaders whose enthusiasm for his leadership is matched only by their gift for self-promotion. With millions of Twitter followers between them, considerable television appearance money (for those who are not incarcerated), and in some cases the endorsement of the president himself, the British Trumpocracy is still thriving – and ready for another moment in the limelight.
Wonderful people like Tommy Robinson, the former leader of the English Defence League, was jailed for 13 months for contempt of court in May – but he has become an unlikely hero for many Trump supporters. Before he was jailed, petitions were set up asking Trump to grant asylum to Robinson in the US.

I was handed a leaflet outside my tube station Tuesday evening, half reads "World's #1 racist - Protest Trumps Visit" - giving information on the Friday 13 Protest, (2pm gather at Portland Place London W1 (BBC), 5pm Rally at Trafalgar Square.
The other half says Oppose the Nazis and Tommy Robinson - Saturday 14 July 2pm, protest - Whitehall.
I've seen a couple of reports on Twitter that the Tommy Robinson protest (which, in June, led to extreme violence) is going to be scrapped as it clashes with the England 3rd place game.
I took the leaflet without looking at it, walking down the road I nearly went back and shook the guy's hand.
In an extraordinary intervention timed to coincide with his UK visit, Mr Trump said Theresa May ignored his advice by opting for a soft Brexit strategy. And he warned her any attempts to maintain close ties with the EU would make a lucrative US trade deal very unlikely.
Mr Trump said: “If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal.”

It is very difficult to know how to deal with the blatant rudeness displayed here and elsewhere by President Trump, as he insults the Prime Minister and Mayor of London.
Silly displays like the blimp reduce us to his level of vulgarity, protests pander to his vanity and need always to provoke a reaction, and any attempt to ignore him is thwarted by the Press.
He should be asked to leave the country immediately, but good manners, which he so despises, will prevail.
More frighteningly, a large percentage of Americans actively support him.
Wonderful Tommy Robinson is someone taking the p.... the man is even more vile than the Trump I wish he had been jailed for life
I wondered if the wonderful Tommy Robinson remark was an attempt at irony...
Since it was a quotation from The Guardian, I think it's safe to assume it was ironical.
The point is that sometimes folk can be judged by the company they keep.
Many of Johnson's failed projects have already been mentioned (Garden Bridge, water cannons, etc.).
The Routemaster bus which he also introduced at huge cost is said to have been a failure. They cost twice the amount of the old double deckers, carry fewer passenger (87 instead of 96), were fitted with an ineffcient air cooling system which led to people expiring in the heat and new openable windows had to be fitted, the jump on/jump off feature has been more or less phased out (the prinipal purpose of the Routemaster), hybrid battery system doesn't work properly and most buses are running entirely on diesel.
The Thames Cable Car costing £60 million, £24 million of which funded by taxpayers - it is poorly used since there is little demand for travel from the Greenwich Peninsula to the Royal Docks.
Boris Island Airport Scheme, refused after millions being spent on the project
Stratford Orbital Structure - which many people (me included) think is pointless and ugly - costs £10,000 per week to maintain.
Just a few of Johnson's stupid vanity projects.
I am not a huge fan of Sadiq Khan but I think he is a good deal better than Johnson.
Mike Fabricant, Tory MP (the one with blond wig who unfortunately looks like the love child of Trump and BoJo - sorry try to avoid comments based on looks but ...)
has tweeted picture of a baloon figure of Sadi Khan having sex with a pig. He is quite rightly facing attacks of Islamophobia and racism - and I really hope that he will be sacked from the Conservative Party. Disgusting.

I know I have from time to time disagreed with what you have said, but this is just wonderful. Classic and spot on!

The blimp is designed to insult our guest.
It also inflates the ego of authoritarian lefties as they stand ready to be interviewed by the BBC and others to make themselves feel better as they spread their outdated misquotes and malicious gossip.
