They are now deciding on a new definition of anti semitism

Blinko Tue 17-Jul-18 08:55:15

With all that's going on in the Tory party.....confused

Iam64 Tue 17-Jul-18 08:55:25

According to the BBC news summary, issues I see as significant are not included in the new definition. According to the LP they are 'addressed' in the new definition.

Anniebach - the new definition worries me but I'm sure this thread won't progress easily (as you will know)

Iam64 Tue 17-Jul-18 08:55:41

Good point Blinko!

Anniebach Tue 17-Jul-18 09:01:41

I agree Iam . Unbelievable, Labour are accused of anti semitism so they will decide their own difinition of it.

jura2 Tue 17-Jul-18 09:20:32

No read the whole document. But for me personally, it is very important to make the difference between antisemitism, and anti Zionism- especially in the context of what is being done to the Palestinians and the constant expansion of Israeli territories.

M0nica Tue 17-Jul-18 09:24:02

Our whole political structure, which includes both main parties and the fringe are all utterly barking mad at present and running round like headless chickens. This is just another manifestation of it.

Iam64 Tue 17-Jul-18 20:57:02

MOnica, your post at 09.24 made me smile. thanks for that - it's dire isn't it.

varian Tue 17-Jul-18 21:07:03

If we as a nation actually manage to survive this brexitshambles, I think it is high time we had a total rethink about the way we are governed.

Grandma70s Tue 17-Jul-18 21:09:37

M0nica has hit the nail on the head. Then there’s Trump to add to the fun.

Fennel Tue 17-Jul-18 21:24:28

Another consequence of all this time wasted on Brexit has meant that hardly any other parliamentary work has been done.
They're not earning their pay.

Anniebach Tue 17-Jul-18 21:43:29

Is the Labour Party in private meetings working out their definition of anti semitism really parliamentary work

lemongrove Tue 17-Jul-18 21:58:39

You either listen to the Jewish representatives when asking their advice, or you don’t.....seems that they didn’t!

Anniebach Tue 17-Jul-18 22:05:02

Seems they disagree with the Jewish representatives

Fennel Wed 18-Jul-18 09:08:25

Sorry I was reacting to M0nica's post about running round like headless chickens.

The NEC has decided to uphold labour party’s code of conduct on anti semetism.

Margaret Hodge has told Corbyn he is an anti semic racist

dbDB77 Wed 18-Jul-18 10:57:01

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of anti-Semitism has been adopted worldwide - including by our own U.K. Government - and is supported by the Parliamentary Labour Party - so what are the LP NEC thinking? The phrase "I don't believe it!" springs to mind.

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 11:00:01

Yes dbDB, adopted world wide with the exception of Corbyn and the Momentum run NEC.

Grandad1943 Wed 18-Jul-18 11:35:58

Well, in the matter of racism the Labour party are at least having an open debate on the subject. That is in compleat divergence to the Conservative party where the allegations of Islamaphobia being widespread in the organisation finds its leaders very reluctant to even discuss the subject at any level.

Therefore those contributing to this thread would perhaps like to post their views on the following links in regard to the allegations of a cover-up of racism in the Tory party so the thread can take a more balanced perspective on racism in Britons political organisations

In the above, I believe the sad fact is that racism surrounds us all in our workplaces, political, voluntary and sporting organisations and in every aspect of our everyday lives. In that, strong action needs to be taken against all who are found to perpetrate such disgusting behaviour. I believe the Labour party with all else that is going on at present in this country are at least to their credit still trying to address this matter.

Iam64 Wed 18-Jul-18 11:42:26

Please give it a rest Grandad. I appreciate that discussions wander but why introduce islamophobia in the Conservative party in response to a posters genuine concern about anti semitism in the LP. We are all aware that racism is alive and well and living amongst us. I've not heard anyone in RL or on Gransnet discussion boards suggesting that Islamophobia isn't a ' thing'.

That's why some of us are stunned that the LP would re-write a definition of anti semitism, when the existing definition is accepted world wide.

Grandad1943 Wed 18-Jul-18 11:57:30

Oh Iam64, you do not wish to have the thread discussion broadened to discuss racism throughout our political body overall. That would seem to be a very strange one-sided stance to take in regard to a subject that undoubtedly "infects" all our political parties in Britain.

It would seem that

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 12:00:12

This thread is for discussion on the Labour Party and anti semetism. Note Anti semitism .

The NEC meeting yesterday was not an open debate.

Open debates are no longer allowed in the Labour Party. At last years labour conference is was decided before hand Brexit was not to be discussed .

Grandad1943 Wed 18-Jul-18 12:00:19

Apologies. Please disregard the last line in my post above. Dictation Microphone still on when I spoke to someone else. grin

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 12:03:22

Tbread discussion broadened my foot. Distraction yet again.

Why not a thread on racism in the Tory party?

Grandad1943 Wed 18-Jul-18 12:19:32

Yes anniebach, open debate is certainly not allowed by the so-called moderates in the Labour party. In that, those "moderates" in conjunction with the then General Secretary of the movement carried out a campaign of disinformation to Jeremy Corbyn and other members of the NEC as they gave those persons deliberately wrong information on targeted advertising in the 2017 general election campaign.

Those persons organising that action in an attempt to "wreck the Labour election campaign" included Margaret Hodge and Joe Mann which I find totally disgusting.

The sooner these old Blairites are deselected by their Constituency parties the sooner it will be much better for the whole Labour movement. They are a total disgrace to the name of Labour.
