OMG some of you have narrow lives and are far too involved in this whole thing. Bad language exists some people use it, some don't. I don't trawl through threads looking for it, nor am I offended by either a fuck or a turd. If you are say so and move on but stop going on about it. This who said what and when belongs in the playground not on an adult thread. Frankly I don't care if I read it or heard about it it's a non-event.

lemongrove Mon 17-Sept-18 12:34:23

Oh the far lefties ( all three of them) on this thread are doing their level best to get this thread stopped. After that we can start another though, so maybe they shouldn’t bother.
Maryeliza started the pearl clutching phrase fully two years ago on here ( lifted from Mumsnet) it’s hardly new, and certainly not created by trisher.
I expect Grandad43 is enjoying you two ladies defending him, probably revelling in the attention. grin

May I add that the “f” word would not normally feature in my vocabulary, certainly not on GN so I apologise unreservedly to anybody I have offended by using it, apart from MaryEliza who is a) unlikely to be offended and b) sat up and asked for it grin
You may have been looking in the wrong place
(The Serena Williams thread) which makes me wonder whether you in fact read it or only had Grandad’s word for it hmm

Anniebach Mon 17-Sept-18 12:13:04

Really Maizie? I certaintly agree with ’excessively’

trisher Mon 17-Sept-18 12:11:56

MawBroon I have looked back at my thread history and the first post I have for 13/09 is the one I made at 18.06. The one before that is POGs on 12/09. Now I think this is very odd because I know I was out all day and didn't post till the evening but I'm sure some were debating during the day. Does anyone know how this could happen?
I accept that you apologised but really I hadn't seen it. I apologise if this caused you distress.

Anniebach Mon 17-Sept-18 12:09:14

It has lead to an end of the thread Maw

MawBroon Mon 17-Sept-18 12:09:05

“Pearlclutchers” is a term which has kicked around GN too for quite some time.

MaizieD Mon 17-Sept-18 12:08:04

No Maizie, we just have moral standards, sadly missing in some.

Since when did using language regarded by some as 'coarse' become 'immoral', Ab?

I've always associated 'morality' with things such as not stealing, cheating or lying. You know, those values which underpin a decent and caring society.

Language that's been in daily use by people for hundreds of years is morality neutral in my book.

I'd agree that expletives used excessively in place of well expressed ideas can be very boring, or, a sad indication of lack of literary skills. But we can hardly accuse Grandad of excessive use of expletives (I don't recall him using any) or lack of literary skills, can we? He always seems quite excessively eloquent to me.

Pearlclutchers!!! Wish I'd thought of that

I'm afraid I nicked it from Mumsnet, trisher. But it's so perfect...

MawBroon Mon 17-Sept-18 12:07:07

I am not saying you started anything Trisher
You said why didn’t I apologise, I said I had. Agreed?
What do you want now?
If you have something to say to Anniebach say it to her not me.
Frankly I really don’t see where this is meant to lead.

Anniebach Mon 17-Sept-18 12:06:45

trisher there is no need to keep protesting , just be happy with your choices

Anniebach Mon 17-Sept-18 12:04:51

If one’s work calls for them to deal with sewage I suppose it’s natural to think of turds .

“As we think so we are”

trisher Mon 17-Sept-18 12:03:01

I didn't start it MawBroon perhaps you should ask Annie why she feels the need to create a relationship which doesn't exist to counter my posts I have always hated women who feel that the only possible reason for a woman's opinion is because she has/wants a relationship with a man. It's even lower than swearing.

Anniebach Mon 17-Sept-18 12:01:51

I know that trisher, but people’s characters show through even if talking about the weather

MawBroon Mon 17-Sept-18 11:57:06

Is this a post about a post/thread about a thread Trisher?
If so, you are on thin ice.
However, to give you the benefit of the doubt you could do worse than glance at my post of Thursday 13/9 at 18.02

No such apology has yet to be seen for MaryEliza’s repeated use of the “f” word, or for Grandad’s turds
(Now there’s an unpleasant thought)

trisher Mon 17-Sept-18 11:56:23

You may know my political beliefs and a little of my occupations Annie but you know nothing about my personal life. I don't feel the need to elicit support by posting such details.

Anniebach Mon 17-Sept-18 11:49:18

Every time we post we show something of who we are

nigglynellie Mon 17-Sept-18 11:48:58

Better than Twitter or Facebook? a compliment indeed, but why do you keep telling us this when we've made it quite clear that we don't care, be our guest, laugh away, it's of supreme disinterest to most of us!!!! Or is there a hidden agenda here that you are trying to threaten us with? Why would you do that I wonder?!! All sounds very strange and something about you doesn't ring quite true. confused

trisher Mon 17-Sept-18 11:46:56

You know nothing of my character Annie unlike some I keep my personal details close to me and don't emote all over threads.

Anniebach Mon 17-Sept-18 11:35:55

Aw trisher, I am so enjoying it develope, don’t be bashful, out of character

trisher Mon 17-Sept-18 11:33:18

MawBroon perhaps instead of posting irrelevant Charles Dodgson poetry, you could think of apologising for the language you used (even if it was a repost) which leaves the ball firmly in GD1943's court. Although I suspect that, like all the others, you are just enjoying your indignation.
Annie I don't need to build on-line friendships I have enough real life ones.

Anniebach Mon 17-Sept-18 11:16:37

? Maw

MawBroon Mon 17-Sept-18 11:14:42

Oh dear Grandad perhaps you need to say it a third time grin

Just the place for a Snark!" the Bellman cried
As he landed his crew with care
Supporting each man on the top of the tide
By a finger entwined in his hair

Just the place for a Snark! I have said it twice
That alone should encourage the crew
Just the place for a Snark! I have said it thrice
What I tell you three times is true

Anniebach Mon 17-Sept-18 11:06:15

It’s sweet to see friendships develope

trisher Mon 17-Sept-18 11:03:21

Oh GD1943 haven't you learned it's "do as I say", seldom "do as I do" and never 'do as you would be done by"

Grandad1943 Mon 17-Sept-18 10:51:23

Strange how some are still making reference to my supposed expletives but still no condemnation of the "mawbroon" use of the f** word.
Therefore I will post again my comments from 7:32am this morning to further invite condemnation, or are we witnessing out and out double standard sexism in this forum

Repost starts here:-
Oh, such indignity over a sentence (or part sentence) used on this forum by myself which does not even breach the rules. However, two days previous to my words the member "mawbroon" used the F*** word to which there was not one solitary complaint posted in the thread.

Mawbroon tried to justify that when challenged by myself by stating that she was responding to another member "in kind". So, two wrongs make a right.....do they.

I believe what we have witnessed over the last few days on this forum is not indignity in regard to what I have stated, but out and out sexism by a number of forum members, and it is as simple as that.

In the office again today, but do keep the comments and false indignity coming in as it amuses us all in coffee breaks etc. Staff believe it is far better than anything witnessed on Facebook or Twitter and a great advertisement for the forum.
Repost Ends

Many thanks. grin
