I have been a member of a trade union since 1966 in what was formally the great Transport & General Workers Union which is now Unite. I remain a full subscription member in appreciation of what their education sector did for me during the nineteen seventies and again in the nineteen eighties.
Throughout all those years one of the messages that is continuously put forward by the union to its members is should any member have a grievance or feel a change of policy is required then that member should take that matter up within the constitutional structures of the organisation.
Trade unions have very few friends in the media, therefore, there are extensive structures that facilitate the above from workplace reps, Branch structures and organisers, district and regional committees and organisers all available for member input. Those committees are made up of lay members who direct what the various national, regional, district and branch secretaries carry out within the majority agreed rules and policies of the organisation.
Being part of the broader Labour movement the Labour Party has similar structures to the above, those being local, district and constituency parties that again are all lay member organised. Again, any member can take any matter to those bodies and have it discussed at their regular meetings. Trade union members are invited to attend as affiliate members which I did as an elected safety rep at my place of work in the nineteen eighties.
Therefore there is no need for any member to take any matter outside the labour movement as should a majority support what a member raises within any of those structures, then that matter can be taken to the next level be that district regional or national.
Of course, there are now within the Labour party old Blairite MPs and lay members such as anniebach that know the party has undergone fundamental democratic policy change by way of the above structures. However those Blairites do not accept that they are now a minority, so whine and moan to the right wing media in an effort to misrepresent the fact that they and their Blairite views no longer hold majority support within any sector of the Labour movement.
In the above, those persons are totally despised by the whole Labour movement, as they rightly should be.
