I don't think it was fair to target his children but they don't really seem like ordinary folk do they?

trisher Fri 28-Sept-18 20:42:02

Of course JRM's children make use of state provision. Even if they are privately educated their teachers will have been trained in Universities, the private healthcare they enjoy will use NHS trained nurses and doctors. They will be protected by the same policemen, use the same roads, the same council services and other facilities as the rest of us. And should any of them develop an illness too complicated or difficult for private health care the NHS will be there for them.

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 20:01:08

I am one of six children, one died just three days old, so then we were five, not needed, wanted and loved .

humptydumpty Fri 28-Sept-18 19:47:41

No not true. JRM's children will use 3 times as much of the earth's resources as 2 children would so it's irresponsible to have so many, I'm with rufus

nigglynellie Fri 28-Sept-18 18:53:08

Exactly Maw. The Rees-Moggs will almost certainly not be using any state provision for his family, but will certainly be contributing to these provisions. How many children they choose to have at no expense to the tax payer is their business and nothing to do with anyone.

MawBroon Fri 28-Sept-18 18:44:27

those children will need health care, housing and education as will all their many offspring.
Why does anyone need 6 children? They are Catholics so that might explain it. But this planet is overpopulated and having 6 children is, in my view, irresponsible.
(^I do expect to be shot down in flames now^.

I am shooting rufus
No love for JRM but I doubt very much if the education, health care etc of his family will be at the expense of the public sector!
But of course he is not exempt from the NI contributions we all pay for the provision of the same.
Who needs 6 children?
What a ridiculous question. We do not have children because we need them. Nobody’s business, it’s not as if he is living off augmented benefits, or indeed any benefits to support them.
However were the birth rate to decline catastrophically who will be paying taxes in the future to keep us pensioners?

Rufussmum Fri 28-Sept-18 18:34:50

I see he is pontificating on the virtues of 'family' in today's Daily Rail. He has 6 children and, even though he is wealthy, those children will need health care, housing and education as will all their many offspring.
Why does anyone need 6 children? They are Catholics so that might explain it. But this planet is overpopulated and having 6 children is, in my view, irresponsible.

Vince Cable has urged Liberal Democrat activists to lead a “crusade” to liberate Britain from the “Brexit nightmare”, by making common cause with moderates from other parties.

The Lib Dem leader was giving the closing address to his party’s annual conference in Brighton, where he sketched out reforms aimed at tempting a wave of new supporters to sign up for what he has called a “march of the moderates”.

He insisted the Lib Dems would be “leading the resistance to the forces of illiberalism. Leading a crusade to give the people the final say on our future in Europe, and looking outwards to a changing world, with confidence and determination that our values will outlast and outclass the forces ranged against them.”

The poshest (or should that be most posh?) person I know doesn’t pick up her dog’s poo. Neither did the Duchess of Devonshire and she was mega posh.

Jalima1108 Thu 13-Sept-18 20:58:07

Oh, yuck, varian
I hope you never eat anything that she's prepared!

Jalima1108 Thu 13-Sept-18 20:57:07

I have a shelf full of jugs. (must count them some time)
However, not all get used, unless we have guests.

Note - I said guests and not visitors; I think it sounds posher.

lemongrove Thu 13-Sept-18 20:49:23

I have a very special custard jug, several cream jugs and milk jugs and four gravy boats.grin So there!

luluaugust Thu 13-Sept-18 20:44:38

Posh is not shouting your head off in public. Personally I would want a much larger container than a gravy boat for lovely custard. At least we are now of JRM.

petra Thu 13-Sept-18 20:43:50

Doodle
Keep the stainless steel jug hidden, definitely non-u grin

Doodle Thu 13-Sept-18 20:16:49

Well, not sure if I'm posh or not. I do have a gravy boat...but I use it for custard. I also own a stainless steel milk jug which was part of a coffee pot set (from the 70s) but don't know where it is. ?

petra Thu 13-Sept-18 18:26:55

GrannyGravy
I would imagine that some people can't put the words Saafend & posh in the same sentence grin

Anniebach Thu 13-Sept-18 18:22:06

Really Maggie? So i am really, really posh. I also eat my honey straight out the jar , no honey pot for me.

Maggiemaybe Thu 13-Sept-18 18:18:56

Well no doubt her poo is made of violets and roses.

varian Thu 13-Sept-18 18:15:33

The poshest person I know told me the other day that she never washes her hands when she's been to the loo.

Maggiemaybe Thu 13-Sept-18 18:15:29

A milk bottle is so much posher than a carton, Annie.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-Sept-18 18:01:47

Petra - it mus be that" Soufend air "wot makes us posh!!

Anniebach Thu 13-Sept-18 17:56:55

If swigging from a carton is really posh I am really posh to even though I swig from a milk bottle

petra Thu 13-Sept-18 17:52:20

GrannyGravy13
Doesn't everyone grin. I always use a dish for all condiments.

Chewbacca Thu 13-Sept-18 17:36:28

A rather posh family that I used to work for always swigged the milk straight from the carton. Now that's really posh!

kittylester Thu 13-Sept-18 17:21:35

Oh, I'm confused now! I own a few milk jugs but only use them when we are being posh but I do have a few gravy boats and use them when the need arises! Am I posh? Or only when I use a milk jug? confused

Someone I know from volunteering assures me my name is posh! [boasting emoticon]

Anniebach Thu 13-Sept-18 16:06:46

Awe, i’m Not posh ?
