Labour Party Conference

According to Labour List the three big issues set to dominate the conference this year.

1. Rule Changes. 2. Anti semitism. Brexit.

1. Comes under the democracy review proposals (plus open parlimentary selections ) another round which will be discussed and voted on by the NEC on Saturday.

2. Will likely crop up at fringe events !!!!

3. Mainly revolves around the idea of a second referendum
- termed ‘ a people’s vote’ by its advocates - and could change Labour .policy dramatically.

oh lemong- Tory Fudge beats all, for sure. Never ever seen a more disunited and back stabbing party, probably ever.

I think you are talking about my town, yes ?
I'm sick to death of the open, in your face drug dealing.
I've given up contacting everyone I can think of sad
The drug dealing and 'working' girls are controlled by the Albanians.

I lived in Bulgaria for 5 yrs. I probably know more about Roma Gypsies than anyone on this forum. I lived next door to a Roma family but only for a short while until the police evicted them. I employed Roma Gypsies in my garden.
Please don't tell me they are the 'same as us' their mindset is entirely different.
As to why, that's a completely different discussion.

OldBatty re Roma people. I'd genuinely like to know more about them. I know this isn't the thread for that though. If I started one could you share your experiences or would that be inappropriate?

Diana54 Tue 25-Sept-18 20:22:06

The genuine gypsies in this area are mostly settled, not exactly integrated, they keep to their own social groups and in general don't cause trouble. We have had several funerals of high ranking gypsies and they are very notable occasions.

They are not to be confused with certain other travelers that cause mayhem.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 25-Sept-18 20:30:24

Petra - yes to your first question.

I had heard rumours about the Albanian "trade", thank you for telling me.

oldbatty Tue 25-Sept-18 20:41:38

Roma, Eastern Europeans, Albanians.......they are not interchangeable terms.

petra Tue 25-Sept-18 20:45:34

I too would be interested in Oldbattys experiences with Roma Gypsies.

lemongrove Tue 25-Sept-18 20:47:17

muffin It sounds like an uphill struggle finding her work!
Yes, sadly there are some unemployable people, but you have probably done all you can. You certainly have your hands full at the moment, congratulations on the new baby!

oldbatty Tue 25-Sept-18 20:56:42

as I said, Roma, Gypsies, Eastern Europeans and Albanians are not one interchangeable mass.

Several years ago I was invited to attend a gipsy king’s funeral. He was born just outside this town and wanted to be buried where he was born. Every year some Gypsies use to pass through the town on their to Herefordshire for fruit and hop picking. They came here for potato licking. The women would call st houses to sell their lace, lavender bags etc and their lucky charms. I became very friendly with one lady, Daisy, she called several times a year, I kept a tin of larger in the fridge for her, she would only come into the hall and sit on the stairs , would not come into the living room, anyway she and her husband asked me to attend the funeral, it was an experience, I was so blessed to be present, the Church was packed with people not from the town, after the service and burial we went to the field where his caravan was stationed, it was the same farm where he was born , they set fire to his caravan , waited silently for the flames to die then they left.

Petra grin

petra Tue 25-Sept-18 21:21:51

Lemon
As you can see I'm much more informed now wink

Fennel Tue 25-Sept-18 21:35:14

I've just started reading this, having been offline for the last 2 days.
Just to say that we are in a NE town, next to the area where there are many east european immigrants -Kurds,Turks, Roumanians, Poles, Hungarians etc plus some from Africa.
They stick together in their own national groups, seem downtrodden but surviving.
I would love to know why they want to be here?
I asked one Roumanian (or Roma) and he couldn't say.

gillybob Tue 25-Sept-18 21:42:19

What on earth has politics got to do with the royals ? Seriously oldmeg don’t all parties suck up to the rf?

I was a fully paid up member of the LP until I had my eyes opened and now I think they are all just about the same. Out for themselves. I have had a small business for over 25 years. In JC’s eyes we are all greedy rich fat cats . He should try spending a week in mine and my DH’s shoes. Idiot that he is.

petra Tue 25-Sept-18 21:45:13

Fennel
Look up Roma villages in Romania, it might give you a clue.

petra Tue 25-Sept-18 22:08:59

Is it too much to ask that the would be next Home Secretary grin Dianne Abbott could get it right when referring to 999 calls. Twice in her speech she referred to them as '99 calls'
She never was very good at numbers, was she?

Anniebach Tue 25-Sept-18 22:17:18

She should borrow Corbyn’s calculator

MawBroon Tue 25-Sept-18 22:22:22

The Romani (also spelled Romany /ˈroʊməni/, /ˈrɒ-/), colloquially known as Gypsies or Roma, are a traditionally itinerant ethnic group living mostly in Europe and the Americas and originating from the northern Indian subcontinent, from the Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Sindh regions of modern-day India and Pakistan

I don’t quite see the Roumanian/“Roma” correlation you refer to Fennel
Am I missing something? .

oldbatty Tue 25-Sept-18 22:27:07

For Gods Sake Roma, Gypsies, Eastern European, Kurds, Turks....cannot be all put in one category. oh and plus some from Africa????

They stick together in one group.

How stupid are you?

oldbatty Tue 25-Sept-18 22:28:21

Poland is not East European.

lemongrove Tue 25-Sept-18 23:19:12

oldbatty calm down, in fact Fennel said ‘ they stick together in their own National groups’ not one group.
There is no need to be insulting because you didn’t read a post properly.

oldbatty Tue 25-Sept-18 23:31:50

*Kurds,Turks, Roumanians, Poles, Hungarians etc plus some from Africa.
They stick together in their own national groups, seem downtrodden but surviving*

Who are we discussing now?
Eastern Europeans/Turks/Roma/Gypsies/Africans ( what ever that might be)

And as for your advice to calm down, well words fail.

OldMeg Wed 26-Sept-18 07:30:17

What on earth has politics to do with the royals?

gilly ask the Romanovs! Do you seriously not know that?

gillybob Wed 26-Sept-18 07:39:14

Please Don’t twist what I’m sure you know I meant OldMeg just to look clever. I was referring to how all political parties look after OUR rf, but of course you knew that anyway.

Anniebach Wed 26-Sept-18 08:47:44

At a fringe meeting last night there was a call for a national strike, much cheering and applause.
