how long will we need to wait till it can be run again? If it is - or was - a one off vote it should not be rerun again - but that doesn’t seem to be the case with regards to the 1975 vote.

Is this the end game, not yet, the end game will begin when parliament either decide remain or leave. I don't believe that "any" deal will be accepted, if TM remains in office the most likely outcome will be leave unless a second vote is called and I wouldn't like to predict the outcome of that.

Labour and the others don't have the numbers to call a GE while the Unionists stay with TM, if the vote says stay, it ends there, if it's leave, a whole new round of negotiations begin.

The EU and UK are both already preparing to keep the wheels turning in that eventuality, chaos is in nobodys interest.

Who would have thought it would still be here 40 years after the previous vote? It benefits the countries within it in a variety of ways and other countries do want to join - whether they are admitted is another question.

Turkey would like to join, but at present human rights are not stable enough to meet EU requirements. That's hardly surprising with all the problems they have with Kurds and other separatists not to mention migrants.
The EU however paying a great deal over to Turkey to keep asylum seekers and migrants out of the EU. Although it is a NATO member at present it is becoming closer to Russia and that does not bode well for the future.

Andy and Lemon what are you so afraid of? Are you bothered that the lies of the Leave campaign will be so blatantly obvious when we get the final deal that those who voted to leave realise their mistake? Or perhaps you are so sure that the majority want to leave that you see no point?

I don't understand why anyone thinks the government won't get the best deal it can. Does JC really believe he would do better? Doesn't everyone understand it is not actually TM sitting there on with just a few other ministers around her doing all the work? If JC had his chance he would be working with the same civil servants doing all the work that TM is working with. Of course they want the best deal but why on earth would the EU give us such a good deal it encourages others to leave? Feel like I'm stating the obvious and can't see why others can't see the blindingly obvious.

Before the last referendum many prominent Leavers (e.g. Mr Farage) said that they wouldn't accept a 52:48 result as final. Now there is feigned amazement when Remainers say the same thing.
It was clearly a huge mistake not to agree a percentage vote share on something so momentous. It would be bigger of the Conservatives to admit that. Their stance is childish and they should move on.

I think it's very likely the EU will be going from bad to worse after we have left.

Don't forget, other member countries are watching how badly we are being treated over Brexit.

If the EU had any sense it would have seen our Leave vote as a warning, because we are not the only country which is unhappy, as the rise of far right parties in some elections has shown.

The recent treatment of Theresa May has just demonstrated to me how right we were to vote to leave.

It a global anti establishment trend, it happened with Trump in the US, Macron in France, the Arab Spring, getting rid of the old guard.

Are the days of the EU numbered?, not yet, too many vested interests involved, at its most basic Northern Europe being contributors, South and East recipients. Germany and France and the others subsidise the south and east so they can buy cars and other industrial products. The subsidies come with strings which may not be welcome, it's their choice.

What matters is the EU unity now, not at some time in the future, at present it is very strong and it is totally futile for leavers to use this argument. Our destiny will be set in the next few months and will be permanent, either in or out a situation involving continuous haggling year by year would be madness and I'm pretty sure the EU would not agree to that sort of deal.

I don’t understand why jennifer eccles thinks we are being treated badly by the EU.
We joined a club at a very advantageous membership rate, refused to abide by the bits we didn’t like (such as Euro membership and Shengen). Then we suddenly decide we want to leave, but still want all the Club benefits - the free trade deal, no tariffs, no hard borders, no customs delays, continued European health insurance, continued security cooperation, plus the opportunity to create our own trade deals elsewhere in the world.
We want to have our cake and eat it. Why on Earth should the EU allow us to keep all those benefits of membership?

Gangy do you think it is OK for you to tell others where to post? Surely this is open to everyone? All I see from leavers is same old, same old, we voted and must stick to it but, if you are so sure you are right, what are you so afraid of? If all the leavers vote the same and all the remainers vote the same then the result will be the same and you all have been right all along. Why don't leavers want such a vote so they can prove they are right?

Any Referendum, vote or contract - proven (as it has been) to have been based on massive lies by Government Ministers and fraud - does not need to be honoured. Why should Government Ministers be allowed to behave much worse that second-car salesmen?

Leavers say not 'honouring' the vote would create distrust in the political process- Remainers clearly and firmly say that what does pose real distrust, are the lies and the fraudulent behaviour of the Government- the very people we should be able to trust. Of course, this even more so with such a tiny minority (even Farage agrees).

Peace in Europe since World War Two had nothing to do with the European Union. It was bought at the expense of thirty-five million lives and maintained by NATO.

The EU began as a racist trade bloc, extremely right wing and exploitative. The 'European Project' is dated and at odds with a future unified world.

A future unified world, but we are cutting ourselves off from unity with all our nearest neighbours! How does that help? We will be a small, powerless, very isolated country after Brexit.
