just a bit of 'mithering' here:

It has got to the stage, where some people would rather scupper the country than to admit Brexit will have such dire consequences for Great Britain, in so many ways, so many sectors. Like Andrea Jenkins:

'"It is better to go down fighting and honouring the democratic decision of our British people. Then to be long remembered for waving a white flag and surrendering to EU demands".'

And scupper the future of our children and grandchildren with it. It is absolutely tragic.

oldbatty Tue 16-Oct-18 09:19:47

Honestly, hand on heart, it is really frightening me now.

jura2 Tue 16-Oct-18 09:23:13

Indeed, but they will just tell you to 'chill' and that you are hysterical. But they better no come back and say 'oh, we did not know, oh we did not realise, oh oh dear'

Perhaps they should get together and make a UK style video, based on this one:

Of course, change the 'Trump' was us for 'Brexit' was us...

annodomini Tue 16-Oct-18 10:20:27

I am a die-hard remainer who will never be reconciled to Brexit in any way, shape or form and I follow all jura's arguments as I follow every piece of information I'm sent by all the campaigners against this catastrophic proposition. However, instead of haranguing us ad nauseam, it would be interesting to know what on earth she is doing about it or expecting us to do about it. This is a situation which makes me feel more helpless than any political development ever has. I have signed multiple petitions and written to my MP a number of times. A degree of infirmity at present prevents me from joining demonstrations much as I would like to do so. WHAT are you haranguing us for, jura? Most of us know the dangers and the arguments and we feel helpless - maybe even hopeless, following the political lemmings to the edge of the Brexit cliff.

Chewbacca Tue 16-Oct-18 10:32:09

Amen to that annodomini, you've summed up perfectly what many of us have been asking jura for some time.

Jalima1108 Tue 16-Oct-18 10:39:54

annodomini
A voice of common sense.

Elegran Tue 16-Oct-18 11:46:34

It is preaching to the converted on one side and lambasting backsliders on the other - how to annoy everybody at once.

janeainsworth Tue 16-Oct-18 12:35:50

Well said anno.

jura2 Tue 16-Oct-18 12:38:01

And this anno, I can totally respect and understand.

And so hope this 'degree of infirmity' will improve and that you are not in pain.

And I am sorry- but unfortunately, the constant refusal to face reality, the refusal to even look at links and read the info given by experts, not GN members, the head in the sand singing 'lalalalala' trust and all will be well - mean that it becomes so exasperating that it has resulted in 'lambasting' in return, because the situation is becoming truly desperate.

Some of us have written to MPs, got involved in campaigns - taken part in marches (how I wish I could be there Saturday, but I had to cancel for reasons beyond my control) - and also, yes, try and share information to make people aware of what is at risk here. It is hard when some people say 'NO, I won't even have a look at it- I don't want to know'- and when people constantly mock and attack.

With greatest respect anno x

jura2 Tue 16-Oct-18 12:43:00

And you are doing something- just by reading information, and also this:

'I have signed multiple petitions and written to my MP a number of times. A degree of infirmity at present prevents me from joining demonstrations much as I would like to do so.'

That is a lot more than many, and I commend you for that. I have friends who will be attending the march on Saturday and who will be carrying my name on a banner. I am absolutely sure she would be happy to carry yours too- if you want me to ask her.

oldbatty Tue 16-Oct-18 13:11:09

I don't feel " haranged". I veer between utter despair and thinking I can't do anything about it and I can't make myself ill over it.

jura2 Tue 16-Oct-18 13:49:04

And I can totally relate and respect that too oldbatty.

Lazigirl Tue 16-Oct-18 13:51:26

I kind of feel as you do oldbatty and am very worried about the consequences of leaving the EU with no deal, and have done all in my power, ie petitions and letters to MP, but I can also understand what jura2 is trying to do by raising awareness, and it can be a way of dealing with the frustration of it all. Unfortunately it is well researched that presenting people with evidence contrary to their beliefs just serves to more firmly entrench them in their position. Entertaining it may be to argue the toss on here, but I mostly don't bother because it ain't worth it!

jura2 Tue 16-Oct-18 13:56:57

Thank you for your comment Lazigirl- and yes, I can totally understand and respect that too.

Lazigirl Tue 16-Oct-18 16:40:06

I would love to do the march on Saturday, but can't unfortunately. I will be there in spirit as you will jura2.

MaizieD Tue 16-Oct-18 16:46:55

I will be there in spirit as you will jura2.

Me too...

GillT57 Tue 16-Oct-18 17:43:07

I truly despair when I read comments such as ^sorry BMA you will have to adapt^ sigh. It makes me so sad that people, intelligent, articulate people can make such ill informed statements, what do you really truly expect? Do you honestly think that EU born medical staff will be rushing over to work in a system that they will not be able to use as patients? Why are political chancers like Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage, Michael Gove listened to as experts while real people, people who work in the NHS, the Motor and Areospace industries, etc., etc., dismissed as 'experts'.? I am frustrated beyond belief by the inability of people to see what is staring them in the face. I have signd every petition going, have harangued (politely) my Brexit supporting MP ( no answer of course), joined the LibDem party, everything I can to stop this idiotic economic and social disaster.

Jalima1108 Tue 16-Oct-18 18:15:26

My MP did not just support Brexit, he actively campaigned for it, so there really is no point in haranguing mine either.
I didn't vote for him but he still got in despite the fact that the constituency voted in favour of remain.
Work that one out if you can.

GillT57 Tue 16-Oct-18 18:30:44

Same here jalima. I sent him a polite email asking his opinion on the lies creative accounting of the Education department. Still waiting for a reply. He is bone idle, sitting in a safe seat, does bugger all

Jalima1108 Tue 16-Oct-18 18:42:32

This seat has gone the other way, but not for a few years now.
He is quite good at trying to get things done (like Brexit!)

lemongrove Tue 16-Oct-18 18:44:39

The comment ‘sorry BMA you will have to adapt’ means
( of course) that they will have to adapt to the idea of leaving the EU.
When the BMA council chair says they don’t want Brexit ....
Well, they may not, but the rest of the country got to vote too, and that’s the way the vote went!
EU nursing staff have already been reassured, along with all EU workers already living here, that they can continue to live and work here after next March.
British people living in all EU countries have yet to be reassured on that, by the countries concerned.

varian Tue 16-Oct-18 18:46:01

My awful Tory MP, who displaced a brilliant LibDem, is also a member of the dinosaurs club- the ERG. So what would be thew point of trying to influence him?

We do not live in a democracy. The ERG stands for European Research Group. The are a group but the other two words in their description are lies.

lemongrove Tue 16-Oct-18 18:48:27

Sounds as if you cannot come to terms with leaving the EU
Gill....I wonder if there is therapy out there for that condition.wink

varian Tue 16-Oct-18 18:51:40

Why on earth should we have to "come to terms " with something that woulds do so much damage to our country?
