Is today’s Brexit the same as we voted for in 2016.

I liked the question on social media this morning.

Simple question, is Brexit today the same Brexit put to the electorate at the referendum 2 years ago? Obviously millions of our electoral no longer believe so, in which case that vote is no longer valid.
We need a vote on what we are being offered in 2018 NOT what was promised in 2016.to confirm or reject Brexit

Maisie why would I want to belong to a club where the “founder” members were vehemently against me joining in the first place.

I do find it srange that you were apparently against joining GG but were a remainer until your children changed your mind.,

trisher Tue 20-Nov-18 16:57:32

They will charge you if you took out membership for a certain length of time and then try to get out early GG and as for if you've taken a lifetime membership, well you'll be lucky to get out without a huge fine. (usually they have your credit card details so you're stuck)
As for area restrictions lots of contracts stop people working or setting up services close to the area where they have been working.

Good posts from you GG ??

Good point GGsmile.

When I cancel my gym/club membership, they do not continue to charge me and stipulate they I cannot join a different gym/club.

Fine varian we've probably all done it. At least you acknowledged it but I'm still waiting for an apology from the person who made an accusation about me which they have done everything but apologise for! Have you notice there are some who just simply won't apologise? grin

MaizieD Tue 20-Nov-18 13:45:53

benefits

MaizieD Tue 20-Nov-18 13:45:11

Well, I do hope,GG that you don't belong to any club which only offers its brnefits to paid up membets. It is so unfair of them not to allow access to everyone...

My family lived and worked abroad (in Europe) long before the free movement of EU citizens.

It's a different world now. Leaving the EU won't return us to the one that existed before we joined.

Smileless2012 Tue 20-Nov-18 13:44:52

Maybe that's the problem varian you assume that brexiters only make "totally idiotic remarks" so you don't pay any attention to what they say.

Pot and kettle come to mind

varian Tue 20-Nov-18 13:37:19

Sorry Nonnie. I hadn't seen your thread. Perhaps we are all so used to the brexiters totally idiotic remarks that we hardly pay any attention, no matter how outrageously illogical they might be.

Nonnie Tue 20-Nov-18 13:27:07

varian I started a thread about ND's stupid comments on Sky and included the link. Apparently I was not the first, someone else said they had mentioned it in one of the threads and no one had taken any notice.

Arch-Brexiteer Nadine Dorries MP has slammed Theresa May’s Brexit plan because it will mean that the UK will be left without influence in Europe. The Conservative backbencher has said that a UK without MEPs, a commissioner, and no voice in Europe would be a “very sad place to be”.

She told Sky News: “What the public are absolutely furious about is that the EU have sent this agreement back where they expect us to be slaves to the European Union. You don’t do that to the British people.”

She added: “The future of the country and of our relationship with Europe is at stake. This deal gives us no voice, no votes, no MEPs, no commissioner.”

Er, Yes. That is why we should REMAIN in the EU!!!!

GrannyGravy13 Tue 20-Nov-18 13:11:46

My family lived and worked abroad (in Europe) long before the free movement of EU citizens.

Maisie that’s the point I was trying to make (Obviously clumsily) Our successive governments from both sides of the house have not handled the immigration system properly or fairly.

MaizieD Tue 20-Nov-18 11:58:28

I'd be interested to know what you think of this piece about immigration, GrannyGravy

The government has, right now, total freedom over non-EU migration. Outside Schengen, it could block entry to any non-EU citizen, or open up free movement to the entire world. If it does discriminate, that is entirely its choice. For the avoidance of doubt, our current government is led by a prime minister who despises immigrants and immigration and it chooses inveterate racism.

(all of it, not just the snippet I've posted)

GG13 surely the political and economic divisions which are becoming apparent in EU member countries are exactly why we should remain in the EU. Do your children think that we will be able to influence things when we have left? Or do they imagine that isolationism is the solution? because it hasn't worked in the past.
Most of the young people I know including my DSs and DIL wanted to stay because they are aware of the benefits and opportunities available in education and the arts and because they could choose to work anywhere in the EU without hindrance. They live and work with people from many different countries whose future is now uncertain.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 20-Nov-18 11:17:26

humptydumpty - it will be German/French led. We already have NATO many countries contribute men/women to this peace keeping force.

No need for an EU army, the separate countries forces continually train together and if the circumstances arose would stand along side each other. Just an expensive ego trip for Merkel and Macron!

humptydumpty Tue 20-Nov-18 11:04:43

GrannyGravy13, surely it is even more important for us to remain in the EU if there are plans afoot for a European army - if we leave, there is nothing we can do to act against this.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 20-Nov-18 10:03:51

Oops sorry premature posting.

As a country we have relied on immigrants from all over the world for many years. There is no reason for that to alter, just need a government to put in place a viable and fair system in place for all who wish to work in the UK.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 20-Nov-18 09:58:51

Yggdrasil one of AC is an officer in our armed forces, has been based in many EU countries, was adamant that there were plans afoot for an European army and was against it.

They were all for the original trading partners status of EU members but were increasingly worried about the political and economic divisions which are becoming more apparent within member states.

oldbatty Tue 20-Nov-18 09:31:48

"our wonderful lads" What does that mean?

yggdrasil Tue 20-Nov-18 09:17:38

Grannygravy: You would have also known that I was “an avid” remainer until our 5 children (all well educated, non racist caring individuals) explained that it was their future I was voting for and would I consider changing my vote to “leave” which after due consideration I did.

Did you ask your children why they thought their future would be better with 'Leave'.? This is a serious question.

Almost all young people I have heard are worried about the opportunities to study and work abroad they will lose. Almost all "leavers" want immigration curbed, or talk about sovereignity which they can't really define.
I would really like to know what your children said to make you change your mind.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 20-Nov-18 07:45:55

Funny how remainers always state that leave voters were racist, ill educated and had no idea what they were voting for!!!!!

How else would you describe people with degrees, other than well educated, 1 AC has "foreign" wife, our oldest family friends are of Asian origin.

crystaltipps Tue 20-Nov-18 07:23:27

Funny how leave voters all have to say they are non racist and well educated.

but this is what we've got,
links, please varian, to verify that.
