I predict.....

Theresa May will lose the vote on Tuesday.

Do you agree?

And then what will happen next........let’s see whose prediction is the closest. Perhaps let this thread run about 2 weeks and see who got it right, or nearly right.

Declare a winner just before Christmas.

Over to you ?

Can anyone tell me, please. If we decide the best option is to stay in Europe do they automatically have to accept the we are staying put?

Urmstongran Sat 08-Dec-18 11:59:41

I don’t predict riots. Middle England doesn’t have the French passionate temperament.

It’s sad people blame David Davies & Dominic Raab for doing the honourable thing and resigning when they realised that text was being changed in draft proposals by civil servants (Olly Robbins) without their knowledge behind their backs. Dominic Raab actually called the Prime Minister out on this when the Withdrawal Agreement was presented to the Cabinet. No bloody wonder he resigned the next day! Who wouldn’t?
As Jeremy Corbyn said at PMQ’s. ‘Is the post merely a ceremonial one?’ ❗️

Trisher I do hope you are right on your first comment, but I despair the loss of democracy & sovereignty over what should have been a simple trading arrangement. I predict we will never be allowed to leave.

tiggers Sat 08-Dec-18 12:05:58

I predict we will be "made to pay/suffer", whatever happens Brexitwise - simply for having the audacity to want to leave in the first place.

If we stay in we will have our currency changed to the euro to keep us in step at some point.

No democracy, no individuality...

I so hope that my prediction is wrong.

I have a horrible feeling that the 'deal' which satisfies neither Leavers nor Remainers will be agreed in Westminster due to bribery and corruption and mass abstentions. The 13 Tory MPs who represent Scottish seats will all vote in favour in spite of the fact that their constituents voted strongly to remain and recent polls show that voters in Scotland are even more likely to vote remain now. This is because the Tories first loyalty is to the Union and they are aware that if the deal fails this will trigger another Scottish Independence referendum (or a general election where the SNP will stand on a manifesto that promises to declare UDI if they win the majority of seats in Scotland.

But who knows? Anything could happen. I suspect that there have been times past when similar shenanigans have taken place behind closed doors but in the absence of today's 24/7 instant News and Social Media, the powers that be were able to maintain the impression of swan like calm while paddling furiously below the surface.

Blondie49 Sat 08-Dec-18 12:09:19

Don’t think I need to stir pear drop - unfortunately ?

4allweknow Sat 08-Dec-18 12:20:46

Being super critical, I think the Tory MPs who are saying they will vote against the deal will capitulate and support her as they will not want a general election as given how the country is so fed up of the mess they may well lose. Still the last vote was voted down so there may well be some with principles.

trisher Sat 08-Dec-18 12:22:08

Caro57 A top EU lawyer has said they wouldn't have to and we can withdraw Article 50 providing the change is done democratically.

Kim19 Sat 08-Dec-18 12:23:44

Any predictions on what would happen with a 52/48 remain result in the event of a second ballot, please?

GabriellaG Sat 08-Dec-18 12:26:23

Whatever the resultant mess after the furore dies down, we can be assured that food will still be in our shops, the world will still turn, Strictly will still be on BBC tv and we will still hsve a government.
If anyone thinks that the machinations behind the doors of numbers 10 and 11 and in parliament, bear any relation to our government's responsibility to it's country/voters, they are sadly mistaken. sad

Doreen5 Sat 08-Dec-18 12:28:58

There will not be time for another referendum before we leave in March 2019.

NanaPlenty Sat 08-Dec-18 12:33:20

The worlds gone barking mad. All this time and money for what! No progress? Surely not to go back to square one and just remain in, we will be a laughing stock. I do think there will be a general election and I don't have the foggiest who I would vote for. I have never been negative but I'm starting to think a lot of things are out of our control and we are no longer a true democracy.

notgoneyet Sat 08-Dec-18 12:38:57

Entirely with you notanan2 - please please let us not get JC as prime minister sad

Jalima1108 Sat 08-Dec-18 12:42:05

The same only in reverse ……….

Purplepoppies Sat 08-Dec-18 12:47:14

Elton John will go head to head with Nick Knowles for the Christmas number one spot....
Brexs##t talk is banned in my house. I wish 'they ' would just get on with it. Teresa May was landed an impossible task by her predecessor who jumped ship at the first sign of trouble IMO.

Chezabella Sat 08-Dec-18 12:59:40

TM has kept her cool and been tenacious although she originally voted to remain . I predict on Tuesday that she will lose the vote, slam her fists down on the table, yell at the startled Westminster mob, “I never voted for the f*****g thing in the first place!” And storm out.

mcem Sat 08-Dec-18 13:07:17

Oooh chezabella I like that prospect!

newnanny Sat 08-Dec-18 13:08:04

I think Teresa May will lose vote but a very large number and the Conservative MP's will start sending in letters of no confidence unless she goes back to renegotiate a better deal with no backstop. If she either won;t go back to renegotiate or goes but does not get a better deal I think letters of no confidence and then she would lose that vote and a new Conservative leader would be a Brexiteer. Go back and renegotiate a Canada style deal with cooperation on security and no backstop. That is what I hope.

Jalima1108 Sat 08-Dec-18 13:08:37

Chezabella grin
Love it!!

newnanny Sat 08-Dec-18 13:11:04

I think if there was another referendum it would depend on the question asked. We have already voted in or out but there could be referendum on May's deal or no deal and this would preserve democracy. I don't know of anyone who has actually changed their mind from first vote and all just seem more entrenched so if same question asked I think result would be roughly the same.

grandtanteJE65 Sat 08-Dec-18 13:17:00

Why do you think you might remain in the EU? As far as I know that option has not been discussed in Brussels at all.

I wish the UK could stay in the EU, but I don't think that is at all possible. Am I missing something, here?

Sheilasue Sat 08-Dec-18 13:18:20

I predict I will yell my head off if I hear anymore about
Brexit. I am sick to death of it.

Maru Sat 08-Dec-18 13:35:33

Completely agree with you, Niggly

Jalima1108 Sat 08-Dec-18 13:38:57

Chezabella

Perhaps TM will wear a smart jacket, then, if she loses the vote will take off her jacket with a flourish and she'll be wearing a T-shirt saying

I Didn't Vote for Brexit!

BRedhead59 Sat 08-Dec-18 13:39:17

We always spend New Year with a group of six friends. We predict what will happen over the next year. I predicted May out and Corbyn in last year.
Now I think May will lose the vote on Tuesday and then resign before she's pushed. Chaos will follow and then most likely there will be an election, a hung parliament with the Liberals regaining many seats and possibly joining up with Labour. Who Knows. If there is a peoples vote I think there will be riots as in Paris. PS I voted REMAIN. Look how complicated it has got!
