A leadership contest!

Anniebach - I have to say I find your comment about female MPs possibly being threatened with rape appalling, insensitive and completely inappropriate.

Yes janeainsworth, we can assume if we choose to

janeainsworth, tell ‘us’ ! What I mean or tell ‘you’ ?

We are all posting on a public forum ab and I think it’s reasonable to assume that I’m not the only poster who wanted to know what was behind your cryptic comment.
That’s why I used the first person plural.
If I’d wanted an exclusive reply, I could have PM’ed you.

Thank you Bridgeit, yes a good thing ?

Annie I think it stand for Can’t be bothered, that could be a good thing?

No wonder both Labour & Conservative are deeply split over Brexit. So are all of us! And schisms within families (don’t talk about it to keep the peace) and amongst friends (best not talk about it eh?). This subject is tearing us apart.

CBB ?

CBB if that’s your level of discussion ab.

Saying the Tory party is run by men in suits is acceptable but saying a party has had two female leaders isn’t

From a supporter of a party run by Momentum and Unite !

Is it?

Of course it is - it’s saying there’s something about their bring women per se that is a ‘good thing’.

Is it ?

The idea that having had two female leaders is something to celebrate in a party is a form of sexism isn’t it?

Women in public life in general who speak out on whatever issues are subject regularly to rape and death threats usually on social media. If the women are black, the abuse is even worse. This has been going on for years - Criado-Perez who ran a campaign in 2013 to have a woman on a banknote had the most dreadful threats on social media. The subject of the abuse of women on social media is not one which should be used for cheap shots - women across the political spectrum ( and of no overt political persuasion) in the public eye suffer this and we as women should see it as an issue that should unite us in condemnation. Add colour and it’s even more dreadful - ask Diane Abbot and Gina Miler. And Michelle Obama and Meghan Merkle. Just let’s condemn all sexist and racist abuse on social media ( and elsewhere) and not differentiate between which women receive it.

Do they Annie? I believe the leader you despise so much was elected twice by members of the party and not by a small band of MPs (although a group did to get rid of him and failed).
I think some people find the use of rape, as a threat or other method of making a political point, as not only distasteful but disrespectful to those who have been the real victims of what is a terrible crime.

niggly, seems some find speaking of rape threats to be disconcerting.

trisher the men in suits run the Labour Party too. At least the Tory party has had two female leaders, Labour not one.

Why was it concerning, bearing in mind the subject was the truth?!!

Whatever the meaning of *Annie's comment it has one major error. Ms May won't be deciding anything, part of her clinging to power is the promise that she will not lead the party into the next election. The men in suits who have always run the Tory party will be busy deciding who gets the job. Mrs May is yesterday's woman.

I think that 09:07 last sentence was a poor question to pose and I'll say no more. I'm not the sort to report comments that I find concerning.

As it is a fact that at times female MP's have been threatened with rape when they have dared to have an original thought in their heads that doesn't fit the general consensous, I fail to understand why Annies perfectly pertinent question should generate such outrage?! In answer, who knows, they probably will!!

Tell me AnnieBach.

Apologies merlot, I have always stood alone , never been a ‘we’ or ‘us’ .

The poor news reporters on BBC and SKY, geared up for a Tory leadership election followed by a general election, all that overtime .

Us, Annie
