If anybody else turned their Land Rover over at 97, would you expect them to be allowed to keep their licence?

No Sparkle to Phillip being called Phil the Greek and an immigrant, uncalled for

Yes, Anniebach I know that's what you meant, but I am also saying that Paddyann's slurs against the English, which she takes every opportunity to make, are racist.

Anniebach Sat 26-Jan-19 13:49:29

A racist slur is a racist slur regardless of a persons wealth or life style . So Megan Markle is fair game ?

notanan2 Sat 26-Jan-19 13:39:05

Many people use racial slurs all the time. I worry more about real racism that pervades the daily lives of ordinary people. PP is not affected. He is in a safe and protected place.

Using "greek" as a slur affects ALL Greeks and immigrants because the implication is that being Greek and or an immigrant is a negative.

"Micro agressions" i.e. words cause "real racism" 2 ways
1. If you hear 10 "small" slurs about your status in a day they add up to make someone feel bad in a big way
2. Normalising microagression also normalises other racism

HTH

anyone who uses racial slurs is a racist surely

We are back to Paddyann and her slurs against the English.

Anniebach Sat 26-Jan-19 11:32:08

So racial slurs can be acceptable if the person is wealthy,
They are either a acceptable or not acceptable, anyone who uses racial slurs is a racist surely

Jabberwok Sat 26-Jan-19 11:20:42

That's as maybe, but it's still a derogatory thing to say and completely unnecessary and rather silly.

Why would you call Prince Phillip anything that refers to his nationally?! Would you refer to N.S as Nicola the Scot? or Mark Carney as Mark the Canadian, Peter Hain as Peter the South African, Rory Stewart as Rory the Chinaman? I don't think so, so why label Prince Phillip in this way?

Anniebach Fri 25-Jan-19 18:59:18

Your choice PECS

PECS Fri 25-Jan-19 18:52:30

I call him Phil the Greek! As the child of an immigrant I know there are worse things to be called!

Anniebach Fri 25-Jan-19 18:50:04

I don’t PECS, and i feel sorry for Phillip, forced out of his birthland when a baby and still called Phil the Greek by some republicans

PECS Fri 25-Jan-19 18:27:52

Depends on your political opinion Annie re immigrants. Lots of people consider non white 3rd generation people as immigrants!

Lisagran Fri 25-Jan-19 18:19:37

Apologies for posting the cartoon - I have self-reported. It is offensive on reflection.

Anniebach Fri 25-Jan-19 18:13:15

Is a child age one who had to leave his country and came to England to live with family an immigrant or a refugee?

Jalima1108 Fri 25-Jan-19 18:11:29

Prince Philip served in the Royal Navy from 1939 until 1951 and became a naturalised British citizen in 1947 so I would say he's British, wouldn't you?

The cartoon is offensive.

annep Fri 25-Jan-19 18:08:36

No Jalima. I wouldn't.

Jalima1108 Fri 25-Jan-19 18:06:59

I assume paddyann sees all refugees as immigrants

What about all my Scottish friends who have escaped now live in England and Wales - I never thought of them as immigrants. Just British like me.

PECS Fri 25-Jan-19 18:06:17

It is only offensive if you think being an immigrant is a negative situation. wink Not nice to usr the word as derogatory!

Sparklefizz Fri 25-Jan-19 18:04:24

Sadly Paddyann will never pass up an opportunity to have a go at anything English, even though Philip himself is not.

Anniebach Fri 25-Jan-19 18:01:28

It was said in an earlier post .phillip had been in a car crash with the Queen, - it was 54 years ago.

Anniebach Fri 25-Jan-19 17:44:15

I don’t find it amusing , why call him a Greek immigrant, 97 years of age who came to this country age 7.

I assume paddyann sees all refugees as immigrants.

Jalima1108 Fri 25-Jan-19 17:40:48

Sums them up doesn't it
Actually no, it doesn't

You may be needed on another thread to defend what may prove to be the indefensible paddyann. Another poor chap needs your help and support.

Jalima1108 Fri 25-Jan-19 17:38:41

Perhaps you'd prefer this man as Head of State, annep - he may be job hunting; President Nicolas Maduro.

Corbyn would be appointed PM of course.

paddyann Fri 25-Jan-19 17:35:46

lisagran love that ....hahaha. Sums them up doesn't it .
