If anybody else turned their Land Rover over at 97, would you expect them to be allowed to keep their licence?

I don’t get that either Merlot. I find seat belts very uncomfortable, but it’s the law and I would pay a price if caught not using it.

Also re hard hats, regardless of how bombproof your horse is they can still be spooked. Silly woman

Kalu Love it!!

It's being reported online now that Philip nearly ran a woman driver off the road when he first left the Sandringham estate, minutes before he actually hit the Kia and crashed.

giulia what a pity there isn’t an EU Directive on these lines. No UK government will do anything about it because of the grey vote of course.

Imo the big issue with elderly drivers isnt that they are elderly, it is that some elderly drivers when they start to find manual driving hard, rather than give up driving they switch to automatics because of the perception that they are easier.

Automatic driving is a different skill and are dangerous in the hands of someone who just thinks its like manual but easier

All of the "car through shop/house front window" episodes local to me where elderly drivers who had switched to automatic.

You should have a separate test for automatic driving, and not be qualified by default of having a manual licence.

Anniebach Sat 19-Jan-19 12:46:46

Did he hit the other car or did he pull out in front of the other car , can’t be both.

notanan2 Sat 19-Jan-19 12:50:56

Retest to switch to automatic
5 yearly hazard perception/highway test (or black box driving every 5 yrs) with referral for full retest if failed for everyone

IMO the above would filter out the bad elderly drivers and allow the good ones to continue. Would also scoop up some bad younger drivers.

I quite agree, he shouldn't be driving (except maybe on his estate if he insists). The other people plus baby, could have been seriously injured, one has a broken arm, but thank goodness it wasn't more serious. I see he has immediatly had a new land rover delivered!

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Jan-19 13:12:06

*Anniebach" He pulled out in front of the Kia. My bad choice of words - his car was hit.

ginny Sat 19-Jan-19 13:19:56

New car for Phillip.
I’m sure there will be a new one sent to the other people affected, not holding my breath . Of course this might put his insurance up and the expense may make him give up driving. hmm

MawBroon and Sparklefizz - you should read by John Morgan: Diana Inquest - The Untold Story. He quotes facts, from actual statements and the inquest. Big cover up comes to mind. I’m on Part 4 which is about Diana’s autopsy/embalming.

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Jan-19 13:48:03

Granless Thanks for that tip. I'm going to look it up.

Granless Sat 19-Jan-19 13:57:13

Sparklefizz. I found Part 3 in the library which I read first. On enquiring about the others Parts, the librarian said that they weren’t available! Part 3 now seems to have ‘disappeared’ just like a lot of the documentation to do with Diana’s death. The volumes are a big read - 700+ pages in Part 4 - The British Cover-Up.

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Jan-19 14:30:55

Granless I have just checked it out on Amazon and was a bit overwhelmed to see how many volumes there are, plus a number of critical reviews saying the reading is heavy-going. I appreciate that one person's "heavy-going" is not another's .... what do you think of it?

How weird that your library's part 3 has vanished hmm

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Jan-19 14:38:06

Granless Just checked my library and they have only got the first 3 books, whereas I particularly wanted to read Part 4 The British Cover Up.

Anniebach Sat 19-Jan-19 15:22:16

There was no coverup at Diana’s inquest but writing books claiming there was is a good money maker . It should be discussed on another thread surely.

PINKY57 Sat 19-Jan-19 15:33:42

I had a similar accident a few years ago, just didn't see the other car because of the sun, nobody was hurt but i got points on my licence-will he.

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Jan-19 15:35:27

*Anniebach" There was no coverup at Diana’s inquest but writing books claiming there was is a good money maker . It should be discussed on another thread surely.

Yes, it probably should be discussed on another thread, but while we're here, how do you categorically know that there was no cover-up at Diana's inquest?

Anniebach Sat 19-Jan-19 15:57:48

If only proberly discussed on another thread it isn’t for me to say it shouldn’t be discussed here, sorry .

Granless Sat 19-Jan-19 16:19:37

Anniebach - Ok, I’ve opened a can of worms here but I do think starting with one topic which feeds into another is no bad thing - healthy I would say - but I take your point. Facts are facts - maybe you should read the book/s and then comment. Why hasn’t John Morgan been sued for slander???
Sparklefizz - well done your library having some volumes. My library was supposed to have searched high and low for the other volumes and came up with none. Can you say which library you belong to? If not that’s ok.
I’m a fact reader and am thoroughly engrossed in the Diana Inquest. Yes, it can be hard going, at times and I still can’t put the book down.

Lily65 Sat 19-Jan-19 16:25:27

Granless, why not start a thread? A controversial issue for sure.

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Jan-19 16:31:55

Granless Am I allowed to reply or am I still on the naughty step, I wonder? grin Would you care to join me?

Well, I'll risk it ..... I belong to a library in South Gloucestershire. All the branches share the books so it doesn't matter which branch. I have read the info re John Morgan's books and as they seem to be full of factual documents, I'm not sure how anyone could gainsay them ... and certainly couldn't if they haven't checked out the docs for themselves. Thank you for mentioning this.

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Jan-19 16:34:47

Re Philip, photos has just appeared in various newspapers online showing him driving his new Range Rover which was delivered yesterday, on a public road - unaccompanied - and without a seat belt!! I'm speechless!

Someone further back wondered if he might have dementia, and it is occurring to me now too.

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Jan-19 16:35:07

"have" not "has"

maryeliza54 Sat 19-Jan-19 16:39:33

It’s so irritating having two threads on this
